You know I can't tell the truth
'Cause all I do is lie
I feel like I'm laughing all the time
But all I do is cry
I want to go to heaven
Yeah, I want to go to heaven
But I don't want to die
I gave you it all, child
But I, I paid for that
You walked away from me
Yeah, you turned your back
I want to go to heaven
Yeah, I want to go to heaven
But I don't want to die
I'll take what you can give me
I'll use all I can use
Yeah, I'm sleeping with my worries now
I've nothin' else to lose
Yeah, I want to go to heaven
Lord, I want to go to heaven
But I don't want to die

nothing from Southside on RP - hard to believe
Released 25 years ago. And I'm just now hearing it... in this cool retro organ set Bill G is laying down...

Not bad, but she ain't no Beth Hart...

Ha! I just came here to make this same comment! ('Cept, if you listen to Cheap Thrills again, Sharleen doesn't have anywhere near the frenetic intensity of TOAO JJ.) Cheers!
Edit: That said, I'd rather hear Texas than BB… now—Sharleen's goes down much easier than Janis's, for me, at this stage. :-)
Janis Joplin and Big Brother and the Holding Company reincarnated.  Cool.
if you can catch them live, go!
they are a party band!
Never thought I should hear them here!
{#Clap}
Getting into the vault... 8 years since it was last played? Cool.

For those who don't get the "Texas" reference in a Scottish band, they took their name from the movie "Paris, Texas."
nice.....
This chick's got a voice! {#Yell}

...or "Highway to Hell"
Who's the guitar player?
Clearly, they've listened to Janis and perhaps the name is a tip of the hat to where Janis was from. I have some of Janis' early work and it was raw and well, "early." After listening to the evolution of Janis' work, I have to remind myself that generally, we all improve with practice. We know how tricky it can be for musicians, or anyone for that matter, to try to walk in someone else's shadow, so let's see how Texas develops over time. For me, Texas is filling an empty hole in my current music life. Namely, it seems there is precious little music hitting the mainstream scene that gets this gritty and emotive and doesn't suffer from over-productionitis.

Never heard of them. Dig them. Great voice: Susan Tedeschi is a good comparison but I like this lady better. 'Texas' though? Must be an 'homage' or something. c.
I hear Susan, too. But this song sounds like a perfect Janis Joplin vehicle, which calls for Carolyn Wonderland. I swear, CW could get together with BB&tHC (still touring in some form or another, btw) and probably make a bird-in-the-hand career out of doing JJ covers.
that last "i dont want to die" was kinda pitchy for me... sorry dog, just tryin to keep it real... dog
bad

I hope not.... This is a most excellent song if you like her voice.
I love it, though I agree that it has a more SF feel than a Texas thang.
Very nice guitar work, the vocals go well. I'm thinking I like this. Like to hear more. Reminds me just a touch of a young Janis Joplin.
I hope David Byrne's Heaven is next.
I like the overall idea of this, but it doesn't quite make it for me. This singer sounds too much like a girl in anyone's local blues bar band to me. And they sound more San Francisco than Texas to me. Maybe they should study their American influences better.

Yes Texas (via Scotland) she does have a good voice (Sharlene Spiteri?) they've been around in the U.K for years, changing styles, duets with others (even a rapper!)...she had some kind of drink throwing incident with Paris Hilton earlier in the year..she gave Paris and ear full of abuse if I remember right. This song is above average for them though I'm afraid.
Well, she gets a good rating from me just for giving that waste of space a smackdown! Sing it, sister!
It would be great if we could follow this up with David Brent singing Free Love on the Free Love Freeway. All you fans of the BBC version of The Office would understand the significance of that. If not, see the Customer Care episode.
Don't know the band but LOVE the tune...and their name!

Hey now, one lady's wrecked is another man's wracked. JJ simply cannot be beat for pure raw anguished emotion. This is pretty good, but not at the level of Janis Joplin for power, Southern Comfort notwithstanding. Hey, it's not me judging, it's my goosepimples...
Perfect comment, thanks for that.

GOOD ONE! She reminds me of Susan Tedeschi...smooth, yet raw, raucous, yet sweet.... yup
Bill, MAN what a great set! Of all their albums, I still love this one best.

And a smoother Big Brother and The Holding Company behind her.
oy vey. can we all just agree this is weak. is this what is left of the blues?
ooOOOOH, I like this one. This is the first time I've heard this group. Nice!

Scotland naturally. "There was Dallas, from Phoenix; Cleveland - he was from Detroit; and Tex... well, I don't remember where Tex come from." - Forrest Gump

A lot of power in that voice! Almost like Janis, without the wrecked voice.

I had the same thought! I was working, and that woman's voice brought me out of my focus, and I though, "Woah! That sounds like Janis with a purer voice." Sure enough.... Great song, Bill. I really want to hear more from this band.
Glad to hear Texas on RP. They belong here!

First time I've heard Texas on RP -- I know some of their tunes from French radio, but not this one. Cool. Followed by Erik Satie, even cooler.

I DO love to hear a woman sing some R & B (REAL R&B, not the pop tripe some artists are calling R&B). However, IMOHO, Margo Timmins does a better job in the CJ \"Pale Sun, Crescent Moon\" album as does Reba in just about all that I\'ve heard of her.
