In the mornin' don't say you love me,
'Cause I'll only kick you out of the door
I know your name is Rita 'cause your perfume's smellin' sweeter
Since when I saw you down on the floor.

Won't need to much pursuadin'
I don't mean to sound degradin',
But with a face like that you got nothin' to laugh about.
Red lips, hair and fingernails,
I hear you're a mean old Jezebel
Lets go up stairs and read my Tarot cards

Stay with me, stay with me
For tonight you'd better stay with me
Stay with me, stay with me
For tonight you'd better stay with me

So, in the mornin', please don't say you love me
'Cause you know I'll only kick you out the door
Yeah, I'll pay your cab fare home, you can even use my best cologne,
Just don't be here in the mornin' when I wake up

Stay with me, stay with me
For tonight you'd gonna stay with me
Sit down, get up, get out.

Chevy Metal did a fun & respectful cover a while back that you can find on Youtube.

Do you feel the same way about "drivin' too fast" songs?  How about "drinkin' too much" songs?  How about "Down by the river, I shot my baby"?

Lots of art is controversial.  Nobody said you have to like everything, and nobody said you can control what I listen to.

I'm a Gen Z chick who won't be grabbing her pearls anytime soon, while you choke the Fun out of Life clutching yours. This song ROCKS - as do millions of other tunes with colourful stories, cheeky lyrics and (gasp) murder ballads.
Sit Down. Get Up. Get Out.

"Context Matters"

Gooood morning to the world, right here from Germany!!

exactly. it totally captures a moment in time. a story that might resonate. i don't care - it's such a great song from music, to delivery, etc. and just the perfect length. 1971-1972 were great music years.

Well the commentor before you, eileenomurphy thinks it is iconic and I agree.

Anyway lizcrawford, no one condones this behavior and this behavior was not pervasive even back when this song came out.  As long as consenting adults are involved, who cares.

Please take your selective outrage somewhere else and I will add a little extra to my annual RP support, to make up for the loss of your support.

It's degrading to men, too.  When I heard it fresh (still own the album), I laughed out loud at the comical world described in the lyrics.    No one can deny that this song rocks.

But any man who behaved like this -- even back in the mid-70s -- wouldn't have kept a partner more than two weeks or so.  Any  woman who partnered with a man under these rules would have left him as soon as a new man came along and winked at her.  Or maybe nodded, as the album title alludes.  Everybody understood those rules, even though many of us lived under better ones.

Yeah, times have changed, haven't they?

Haven't they?

It works the other way around as well, Priss. Take a broader look at things  than just a song about a groupie.

OR to be in the same rarified air with them.
Looking at their comment history, I see a statement about a song that's "omicron-level infectious".

If we're going to get on our high horse we'll have to discuss this fun adjective about a disease that's killing thousands.

Indeed.

Be careful with that pinnacle rod; you'll put your eye out!
You can easily change the gender of the singer in the song and it will still have the same great impact. IMHO

Wow Liz, I guess it's time to "me too" a song that is 51 years old.  Maybe without the name calling, though.

Don't let the door hit ya...

As if we're supposed to be shocked by this?  The unbridled debauchery of rock and roll musicians has been conspicuously on display for decades.

This never gets old
In the morning don't say you love me

Won't need too much persuading, I don't mean to sound degrading

Stay with me, stay with me

Stay with me, stay with me
'Cause tonight your going stay with me
Hey, what's your name again?

Oh no, get down, woo
Oh, oh no, woo
Get yourself home
Slow down baby
Thought it was awful at age 16 (1971), hasn't improved with time.

Magic combination of talent, attitude and testosterone. Rod and Ronnie Wood at their absolute best.

Really?  It's 46 years old, and I still hear it often in 2017, AND IT STILL SOUNDS GOOD!

Here's some info. on the song from Songfacts.com, where I finally found out what Ron Wood's middle name is:

>>This Mod anthem was written by Faces lead singer Rod Stewart and their guitarist Ronald David Wood, best known as future Rolling Stones member Ronnie Wood. The song is a tale of sexual debauchery where the Stewart gives a step-by-step account on how to pick up a groupie for a one-night-stand. He makes it very clear that she should be gone in the morning, although he does offer to pay her cab fare home.

The song was the first and biggest American hit for the Faces, although Rod Stewart scored his massive solo hit "Maggie May" four months before "Stay With Me" was released in November 1971. In "Maggie," which is based on a true story, Stewart is the object of sexual conquest. Psychologists could have a lot to say about this one!
This has been covered by Elf featuring Ronnie James Dio (1972), Elkie Brooks (1978), Rod Stewart with Kim Carnes and Tina Turner (1982), Rod Stewart himself (1993), Manic Street Preachers with Bernard Butler on guitar during their 1994 European tour and Def Leppard (August 5, 2002). Plus as a B-Side on the "Do Ya" single by McFly.
The song is heard over the closing credits of the films Sahara and Wedding Crashers

Ronnie Wood's opening guitar riffs are jaw dropping.

It is so full of verve, the extended instrumental part is fantastic and both the beginning and end are classic. The chauvinism of the lyrics is the only thing you have to excuse, but I suppose given the sentiments of the time it was nothing less than you would expect from a bunch of lads.

Kind sir, you could not be more wrong.  I purchased this album when it first came out, and was amazed at how easily this band could rock!

Later on, I realized that Ron Wood and Ronnie Lane could bring the heat even without Steve Marriott.  Somebody banged those piano keys like he didn't need an amplifier.  Rockin' Rod brought his best cigarettes-and-hangover voice (and attitude) and — voila! — Brit Rock of the highest order.
Perfect timing.

I can't explain it... but Rod Stewart's ageing makes me feel my own mortality more than any other ageing rock star.

Pure Male Chauvinism Rock N Roll
this song was a nice addition to the movie Sahara.
I had a friend who once mused, "I've always thought that Rod Stewart's voice would work well with a good rock and roll band but I guess we'll never know".  Imagine his surprise when I pointed him to the Faces.
This song is from another time.  A much guitar time.

Ron Wood was one of those young fellows who sat for hours figuring out Chuck Berry songs and the old blues stuff.  Thank you Ronny for that.  It paid off.   Rolling Stones!!

This is a Ronny Wood tune.  Thank you for singinng it Rod.

Love this song.
Always was a fun, smokin' tune. Love the drums!

Nothin' wrong with RodBackthen music.

Saw the Faces, actually the Small Faces pre the XJeff Beck influx in the East End late 60's it seemed to me and this is better. Maybe heresy, but that's the way I remembers it.

Cmon you guys. This is fantastic

I'm not keen on his recent crooner stuff, but this was when he was still a rowdy young rocker so it's great. Amazing how this got played to death back in the day but rarely gets played even on oldies stations.
