The only thing that ever made sense to me
Is the words to a song from an American movie
The only thing that ever made sense in my life
Is the sound of my little girl laughing
Through the window of a summer night

I sit alone in the backyard
Wishing I could be inside
Just the sound of my little girl laughing
Makes me happy just to be alive

Makes me happy just to be alive
Makes me happy just to be alive
Makes me happy just to be alive
Makes me happy just to be alive

Looking back as objectively as I can, there are a few half-way decent songs on this album -- and I suppose this is one of them -- but it was a huge disappointment after the two brilliant CDs that came before, and nothing they've recorded since has had much appeal.
I bought this CD and was very disappointed. With the exception of a couple of tracks, I couldn't find anything to redeem it. That was beginning and the end of my experience with Everclear.

Couldn't disagree more.   I think it's their best album.  I still dig on A.M. Radio, Wonderful, Learning How To Smile, Thrift Store Chair, and Otis Redding.  A pretty solid cover of Brown Eyed Girl adorns the album as well.  Anabella's Song is such a sweet coda to end the album.

Maybe it was a 'place and time' thing but I just love this album.  I'm pulling it out today for a good time listen.

Thanks Bill!

It's a Story! They're characters!

Agreed!  Unemployed Boyfriend is hilarious and a great listen.  An entertaining slice of LA culture.

*shrug* I give it a 7.
The best part about this song is that it's short, so it saved me from having to hit skip. Very helpful!

My love affair with Everclear started the first time I heard Santa Monica on the radio and ended the first time I heard this album. I remember liking them in High School. After they were in the movie Loser, I think that was when I realized I didn't really like them anymore. Stopped listening to them long before that though.

Well, we've taken them back, and we're sending you Modest Mouse instead. If you end up treating them like garbage like you did Everclear, it won't matter-- We were going to toss M.M. in the trash, anyway. And, No-- You can't have our Sleater-Kinney. And GIVE US BACK our Shins!
Art Alexakis is a little tiny coward of a 'man'
I've tried to like these guys, but... I... just... can't...
should play the next song that comes after this....good song! Am radio!!
It's been said already, but their songs do sound amazingly similar.. and luckily I do like the song. I have a couple of their Albums and would never consider buying another. -Adrian

Wow, an Everclear song that doesn't sound like every other Everclear song! Amazing!
Unfortunately, it does. Replace the acoustic, up the tempo and, voila. Same old, same old. Even so, like others have said, I still like to listen to the Everclear sound from time to time.
2 albums and their talent was spent imo. Sparkle and Fade and World of Noise are great though.
Well, at least "Santa Monica" was catchy....

Not sure either. I have their Afterglow album and still enjoy a listen now and then.
Only having this one album, it\'s hard for me to understand the loathing directed towards Everclear. Maybe I need to investigate the other albums and burn myself out. But for now, this, to me, is a powerful and fantastically honest album. Concept without being overbearing. Ironic and sarcastic without being cloying. And this song is the perfect intro. Strange to hear it here, apart from the rest, and surprising how well it holds up. Yet another reason I\'m glad there\'s a Radio Paradise.
Can you say "VH1?"
yuck :-( it was great all day until everclear.
I\'m not an Everclear fan, but I really liked this album. Some great songs such as AM Radio, Brown-Eyed Girl (I don\'t care what anyone says, it is a great remake of Van\'s gem), Here We Go Again and Unemployed Boyfriend. Art really captures the joy of rock and roll in these songs...
Good thing their singer got some therapy, I guess--they might have run out of material a few years ago otherwise. ;)
