You make me laugh
Cause your eyes they light the night
They look right through me
You bashful boy
You're hiding something sweet
Please give it to me yeah, to me

Talk to me some more
You don't have to go
You're the Poetry Man
You make things all rhyme

You are a genie
All I ask for is your smile
Each time I rub the lamp
When I am with you
I have a giggling teen-age crush
Then I'm a sultry vamp

Talk to me some more
You don't have to go
You're the Poetry Man
You make things all right

So once again
It's time to say so long
And so recall the cull of life
You're going home now
Home's that place somewhere you go each day
To see your wife

Talk to me some more
You don't have to go
You're the Poetry Man
You make things all rhyme

You can't be serious. Maybe time for a hearing test.
Delightfully lusty musical tones .... talk to me some more.......
Fiona Shephard ?? Are you out there lady ❤️❤️
I have always loved this song.  Always dreaming of a man who could capture my heart like she sings here. Beautiful, melodic, poetry....

Just chimed in to say the same thing. I heard this a bunch as a kid, but never remembered all the instrumental texture.  Hearing it with new ears.

Hey, me too. I wonder if it's not the same mix as we heard all those years ago.

And is it really "you make things all rhyme"? I always thought it was "things all right" and that's the way I heard it just now.
A must have album.

Exactly... {#Sad}

Sure, this song was all over the radio when I was a kid, but then, as now, I could appreciate the nice guitar arrangement and her talent.

It looks like Snow.

Agree

Fabulous artist as well

Does anybody still say that?

I will say it. I never could tolerate this song. For reasons that elude me, it holds an elevated place for many listeners. Not me. Among other things, it sounds incredibly dated, of a time and place that I see as forgettable.

??  doesn't sound anything like joni mitchell and don't understand what you are saying....
Simply beautiful. And then she was gone.

I could never take this song.  Have no idea why it is on RP.
Her singing was already annoying, then came the sax solo.
Boring, consensual and yeah, stuck in an era, but in a bad way!

Of course it's stuck in its era, just like a lot of the music you enjoy today will be. I'm not saying that you have to like it, but labeling a song "of its era" is not a good reason for not liking it (more like an excuse), and says a lot more about you than the song.

This reminds of a very special sexual experience about 40 yrs ago so I give it 5 thumbs up! Even though this isn't primo shit this is so much better than some crap now days it's unbelievable.

Wait...you're gonna leave us hanging?!? No details or drawings?  {#Whipit}

I don't know if I could listen to Phoebe indefinitely, but she had/has a beautiful clear voice. I love the way she goes way down and almost...chuckles, and then immediately soars to a high note.

Hey, maybe she's stuck in the 70s but I love it. And dragon's right: there is a lot  of crap out there now. Lana Del Ray and her manufactured career come to mind.

Apologies to all who revere this song, but... I have never, from the first time I heard this, through its perpetual presence on FM and AM radio back sometime in the 70s, been able to see in this song what everyone else did/does. At this remove, it sounds incredibly stuck in its era, but even then the warbling singing style grated like sandpaper (probably #60) on knuckles. I suppose the allure lies in the emotional pull for some listeners, but all it did for me was induce evasive action.

If I wasn't using Winamp I would PSD.

I'll agree with that. First time I've ever heared this song so I've rated it a 2. This allows me to change to a 1 or 0 if I ever have the misfortune of hearing this again.  Very irritating vocal style, possibly from the Joni Mitchell School of Blackboard Scratchers {#Ass} {#Nyah}

I like pho.
so soft and smooth, a delicious song from a classic sultry vamp of a girl
If you were born in 1975- and you hear this song for the first time since 1978- you die in the world's 9th recorded case of Spontaneous Human Combustion. Poof.
Lovely, lovely voice. So sad another great artiste no longer here.
Wow, I haven't heard this is soooo long....4got I have this LP!

Miss ya Phoebe!
Peace and Love all

Miss you so much, Cynaera...

this song is beautiful...
Phoebe Snow, Helen Reddy, Roberta Flack all had similar vocal styles that mark that musical era.

When this came out, I was working as a stagehand (schepping boxes around) for a concert venue. This song was climbing the charts and Snow had been scheduled months before, so we thought she'd cancel for bigger venues.

She didn't, and she and her crew/band were some of the nicest people I met in that period of time. She was funny and gracious, and had this high, melodic laugh. She took the stagehands to lunch the day before the show and was interested in everyone's story.

A wonderful person, a genuine human. RIP.

Could never then and cannot now explain my affection for this one...some hidden memory no doubt...

I wonder what the wife is thinking about her man never being around and not even washing the dishes piled high in the sink?  That's the only thing he had to do today while she was at working scraping up enough dough to pay the bills and he can't even get that done...  Lazy good for nothing...all he does is hang out at the coffee shop.  Should have never married an English major.

Now if he'll play a little Roberta Flack and that Seasons in the Sun song I might become unstuck in time...

I didn't care for this back in the 70's and still don't care for it. I'm a fan of female vocalists though and Oh wait Kate Bush just came on, and now Eva Cassidy, that's more like it.
Always liked the superb voice of the late Phoebe Snow.
Always thought Phoebe Snow was too treacly.  Then I had a deadhead girlfriend who was into Phoebe Snow, and I gave a second listen.  Now, many years later, I think it is pretty damn good stuff.
"You're going home now

Took guts to sing that without malice. RIP Phoebe.
I so loved this song back in the day, it's still great.
Brings tears to my eyes. For my best friend Lori.
Love this song! What a voice... {#Cheers}
what a voice! always loved her stuff. man,I didnt know she passed away. too bad too bad. gets a 10 score in life just for what she did for her daughter. i'm sure she's making beautiful music up there.
Have.....always...disliked....Phoebe (ack) Snow...

ohhhhh. i love her. love this song.
God, YEAH!  That crystal clear and pingey beginning, then the familiar but oh-wow-ain't-heard-this-in-AGES! feeling as the vibe comes out of the speakers and flows across the room, and then beyond, connecting all in the cosmos, just as it used to do so very long ago...TIMELESS and sublime, and a mighty THANKS goes out to RP from me!
As smooth and easy today as it was way back when.  Loved her voice and styling.
Wow! Thanks for throwing me back to the 70s in about 2 seconds. I don't think I've heard this song since my angsty pre-teen days.  Classic. And tragic.
You don't need a special occasion to hear this.  Its good anytime.

RIP

{#Sad}
Sadness is easy to feel, pain of the heart is sharp, yet hard to let go.................  Don't just miss the person when they are gone, Love them forever and Live them them everyday and enjoy the life that was shared.
Rest in PEACE Phoebe!  Thank you for the memories {#Cry}
Really brings you back...read the sad news earlier today....

God Bless Phoebe, I will miss you
Such a beautiful song...one of my all-time faves. RIP, Phoebe.

I have heard some other stuff from her, she had a great set of pipes.

This is nice but very dated and really not her best though it what she was know for.

May she rest in peace.

R.I.P. Phoebe, now you can be with your Daughter...
RIP
