Umm, No.  There's no argument from me that hard work is admirable, but you are equating effort with results.  Sadly, no such connection exists, and despite the fact that someone (including musicians) might be working really, *really* hard at what they are doing, the fact remains that, well, some people just aren't any good at what they're doing. Sorry.  Life isn't fair.  While I don't doubt that this musician might be far more skilled than I could ever dream of being, that doesn't mean that I should be obligated to rate this song highly or credit this guy with being some sort to maestro.  Truth is, I think this is a pretty bad tune, and whatever personal qualities and/or work ethic this guy might have at producing beautiful or memorable music, IMHO he failed in this attempt, and this song just plain isn't very good.  A mere 3, in my view.

I didn't know Dr. Jordan Peterson was an RPster!  I kid, though I fully agree about effort vs results and opportunity vs outcome, etc., a lot of what Dr. Peterson talks about.

I do disagree though about this song, I think it is excellent, and rate it an 8 and look forward to hearing it in 'My Favorites' now and again (like how I heard it today.)

Long Live RP and Freedom of Speech!!
This really fits the tune. Love it.

In your opinion....let's make sure that's really, really, clear.
I was surprised in the 6+ years that I have been hanging around RP this has never caught my ear to even be rated, but as I read thru the comments, it looks like it has been played very sparsely.

I caught another Gooding tune the other day that made me do some research on him. Go to Artist Info, Wikipedia does not appear to have a page for him.  A very interesting path for the young man and very enjoyable music.

Thank you Bill and Rebecca, more Gooding in the rotation would be a good thing, IMHO.

I'm just learning to play a musical instrument. It's unbelievably difficult to achieve even the most minimal results. When I read these off the cuff "this sucks" comments, I think the posters are horribly lazy creeps who don't have enough talent to deliver a proper voice mail. If you've worked hard enough at a craft to make a record and get broadcast on any media vehicle, and radioparadise.com is a pretty nice vehicle, then you deserve some credit and respect.

Yes, I find that very appealing.  Maybe I couldn't listen to prolonged periods of this kind of sound, but this is really a good groove.

If you blossom into a musician—and this will happen only after a lot of hard work and paying attention to other musicians, you will understand that musicians don't dump on other musicians. You get it, and you get that they get it. As for the fans, well, like it or not, they're the ones who are going to buy tickets to your gigs and your recordings. In our shared world, purchasing power evidently accords fans the privilege of calling musicians they don't "like" names and such. The heckler in the audience with a bag of rotten tomatoes has become a fact of the entertaining life. He may be one of your "lazy creeps," but he bought a ticket. Welcome to our world.

I hope you succeed, denbear. Everyone's world needs more music and the folks who make it.

Excellent post Denbear.

This is tight. I give it a 7.

Very Drala-esque . . .

if everything that is broadcasted deserves respect, we are in a world where every effort deserves respect. Well, thats philosophy. In my opinion there is sometimes on air that really sucks. (maybe that also deserves respect).
But this song: I like it - its pretty good, a 7.
(and now give me some respect, guys{#Roflol}

Thought it was another Peter Gabriel tune from his selling out period...
That's good for about 10 seconds. More than that and it starts to sound like "loopers delight." ZZZZZZZZ
It's karaoke-time, everybody SING! We are shakin' the tree...
where is the SKIP button on this site?
Interesting slide guitar work here... very subtly textured in. Nice.
FREAKY! I was thinking of Digging in the Dirt by PG too! It's not just the baseline but the guitar goes there at times too. The drum pattern too! But I still like it. ^_^ davyjrshort wrote:

I feel like banging on pots and pans. This definitely gets a 9.
I'm a sucker for slide guitar.
This is pretty good, but there are better Gooding songs out there that don't get airplay on RP (Harm's Way, Little America).

Ahhh... funk it up!!!! Free your mind and your ass will follow! (pimp)
I really like Gooding, but this tune focuses a bit too much on the percussion, which itself sounds artificial. Normally, that's not a problem, because Gooding does a good job of blending synthesized backing to some sort of blues or world guitar, but this one doesn't work too well. I really like the slide guitar though. It's really the focal point of the song, but the percussion just drowns it out too much.
Is this Peter Gabriel with the vocals scrubbed?
The drum track is killing me. Wouldn't be so bad if it didn't have such a processed/manufactured sound.
Amazing. Sounds like something from everyone that Eno produced in the Eighties with a Peter Gabriel worldbeat feel. Not that I mean to pigeonhole the work, it's pleasantly derivative, with extra textures. Someone else said s/he was waiting for a meaty guitar to show up (a la PG's Digging in the Dirt), but Gooding chose a crisply processed acoustic guitar. I like it. It's inspiring to hear the familiar elements arranged with the new, both for this song and for RP (since I started typing, a Bryan Ferry rendition of Goin' Down has started playing).
It's pretty good, but a little too instrumental... =)
Been waiting to hear more from Gooding since being totally blown away by "First Lullabye" here on RP This doesn't have the same impact because it's not as focussed, but it's a brilliant tapestry of all kinds of musical styles and influences in unexpected juxtaposition. I see it was first played here some time ago, but it's new to me, and I tune in a lot. I'd say it's sufficiently unique to be worthy of quite a bit more play.
Is this on Real World? Are Peter, Manu, Dave & Tony around there somewhere? Not that it sounds like a ripoff. I love it! Keep it coming , Bill.
I dig it.
Great song! First time I\'ve heard theese guys. Play some more, please!
Funky!
