Travelin' light is the only way to fly
Travelin' light, just you and I
A one way ticket to ecstasy
Away on down, just follow me
Travelin' light, we can go beyond

Travelin' light, now we can catch the wind
Travelin' light, just let your mind pretend
We can go to paradise
Maybe once, maybe twice
Travelin' light is the only way to fly

We can go to paradise
Maybe once, maybe twice
Travelin' light is the only way to fly

there is j.j.cale version of this? OMG!
good grief bunch of whingers here… I really enjoy this version.  And I do like Panic in gerneral as well.
Guitar is boring compared to Cale. Drumming seems a bit over the top for what should be a pretty laid back sound.
Not bad as covers go. The original crushes it like a grape of course.

I think for me it's the marching-band-cadence of the snare drum in this cover. JJ Cale had a laid-back, shuffle rhythm to a lot of his songs that made them so relaxing and enjoyable to listen to. This version is a bit more regimented and rushed sounding.

"Widespread Panic discovered a couple of my songs and started doin' 'em on the gigs. They'd take a song and expand it and everybody plays a long time and people really like that. But I made my living as a songwriter so I try to get to singin' and get it over with."

J. J. Cale

best drummer than Dire strait
My son thought I was having a fit when he saw me air drumming to this....kids today 😆

The beauty of JJ is the understated element - he does it better than anyone, with the possible exception of Mark Knopfler. Other versions are - exactly that: other versions. They bring the flavour of the band doing it. To me the original JJ versions are the definitive. His live takes are different and not so understated.  Different stokes for different folks/audiences.

Agreed here too...+1 to 8 for the drumming...LLRP!!

Well, there is/was only one. JJ Was THE coolest guy ever. He managed to  write and play cool and grovve to the max. Soooo cool.

Eric did this, too.  I like any version, because I can identify with the message.

<edit three mins later> ... and now BillG plays Eric's cover of JJ Cale's After Midnight!  You da MAN, BillG!
Very good drummer. Best than DIRE STRATE

thanks for the WSP
Great cover.   JJ Cale would be proud.
Big fan of this band for many years.  And, who doesn't love JJ Cale? Hoping RP digs deeper into both's catalog.
Truely awesome
JJ was just one in a million ... the autentic one and also the many covers of his songs by others just sound great ... And now Bikll just plays After Midnight by Clapton to confirm what I state, play it loud!!!!!" {#Bananajam}

C'mon - you listen to RP because it's a carefully curated DJ experience, not a listener request station. There are plenty of those out there, including Hispanocentric choices. Thinking that you're being discriminated against is just wrong. It's not a democracy.

Education is much more than training servants for the corporate lords. Knowing how to induce aesthetic experiences is more valuable than money!

Caution and chicken broth and some humility never hurt anyone.
In terms of music, nobody is above nobody, and nobody knows everything, and wise is he who listens to others.
And besides, you are neither Bill nor i am not even Hispanic.
And you are not the spokesperson for anyone. As for democracy, neither go through this route unless you go Cuban dissident.
Is not my habit to make song requests. Fortunately i hear the music i want, either on radio-stations, live-shows, or in private. Everything in its place. And everything has its value and specific interest. And yes, surely, i listen to various radio-stations around the world, US, UK. EU, and if it were otherwise, would never have come to the RP. And If you do not know, i want to remind you that RP is "Listener Supported", and that exists in RP a function called "Request this song". And, again, you do not even hesitate, i appreciate the invaluable work that Bill has developed here.

I have been playing this CD while in the shower each morning for the last week turned up to 11... It is sooo RAD!
My second ex was huge into Panic, but for some reason, you could never find this CD anywhere (even though we lived in GA at the time).  I went out to Utah for a long business trip..and low and behold...I found like a dozen copies in a music store...so I called her and asked if she still wanted it...LOL...She wanted me to buy every single one of them!!
That being said, not my most favorite song on the CD...Space Wrangler is just soooo nifty!!

Not so long ago, a wonderful radio station in our town played this song by JJ Cale and Eric Clapton.  I'd never heard it before, but that was the version I loved most. I've heard Mark Knopfler do it, and now Widespread Panic, but the Cale/Clapton rendition will probably always be the one that haunts me.  I miss the Coyote FM that once was...
