Meat meat blood blood
Sweat sweat meat!

Björk
I close the door
Shouldn't burn yet
The wires get hotter
Palms are glowing

This is hot meat
This is metallic blood
This is hot meat
This is open sweat

I'll show you with my fingers
Draw with the eye
With your own breath
I'll tear your lungs

Here is hot meat
This is metallic blood
Here is hot meat
This is open sweat

Einar
This side of the blackest meadows
I make my winter dwelling
And crush my bones

Björk
This is hot meat
This is metallic blood
This is ...hot meat!

I'll sail out the window
I'll walk down the edge
I will not finish
'Till I'm fully satisfied

This is hot meat
This is metallic blood
This is hot meat
This is open sweat

Björk, of course!

 I"m jealous.

So good, and ahead of their/her time.
Aaaahhh!!!!

I wish someone would remix this album. I love the raw, youthful earnestness but the mix is thin and unbalanced. It almost sounds like there was a high pass filter used.
Keep envisioning

Björk

in bed with me

she is on top

Whoa, Sugarcubes! Great blast from the past, I loved this album back in the day.
I was hating the musical scene in 1988 with Madonna and Milli Vanilli and this was never played on our small city radio stations
This was beyond me in in 1988.  Probably still is.
Great to hear this morning!  Love me some Sugarcubes!
Thinking to myself that this really sounded like Björk... Duh... Sorry...
Great to hear this again! Thank you so much Bill
This is one of the first albums I bought with my first paycheck all those years ago. What a great album.
This one brings back happy memories. {#Music}

Been there, done that.

I love Bjork and her music. It's always sounded fresh and daring to me. The Sugarcubes was the perfect launching pad for her, and always remind me of being the Scandinavian B-52's.
I've always thought that this is one JAMMING song, and it really showcases Bjork's Grace Slick-ish vocal gymnastics and fiery passion

I didn't realize anyone else was there at the time.

Ohshitthatsfunny — stop, oh please, dude, yer killin me.... oh man... (just breathe) hoooooooobuddy!

Holy crap... I must admit, weird as she is, she's easily my favorite Icelandic import and I (shameless pig that I am) would be hard-pressed to take a pass on such a potentially life-altering experience should I miraculously find myself in some form of contention there.  (Ha!)  BUT NOW, thanks to good ol' Max here, there's simply no way that I'd be able to remove that image from my mind enough to properly reciprocate — and man, that's just a big damn shame.

So, thanks for screwing that up for me and probably for several other...uhh...dreamers here, ya wanker.  Seriously though, thanks also for the laugh!

{#Cheers}

What ever happened to Einar (the guy who talks through most Sugarcubes songs)? He was like the Icelandic Fred Schneider.
Most excellent!  Haven't heard this in many years.
This is brilliant stuff.  Thanks RP.
Way, way ahead of their time.  Edgy when it came out, simply outstanding now, especially in light of the dreck that passes for music on FM today.  Solid 8+!
I don't think I've ever heard Sugarcubes on RP. How can that be?

Bjork.  Not a fan personally but I think even her most ardent fans would accept the voice is distinctive enough you wouldn't expect everyone to like it in much the same way I don't have a problem with the way many of my friends have never come round to young Mr Bragg.
Awesome singing.
At its time (1988) the only competition for Sinead O'Conner: great talents both!
One of my favorite singers... loved her immediately when this album came out.

Here's a great documentary about Bjork from the 90s. It appeared on Bravo here in the US:

this WAS her best work...

I agree!

Nothin like Bjork or Sugarcubes to make a rainy day to shine.

You bet.  I thought she'd sneaked a new album past me.  Very surprised to see that this is from the 80's....

Björk detected  ... OMG! That is a Sugarcubes! I woke up, woke up, yes. (face@palm)

Yeah for the 'Cubes! I loves me some Sugarcubes!
Did Björk study Mongolian throat singing?

Man, this is good.

At first I thought this might be Bat For Lashes. I didn't know it was our little Icelandic pixie until more phlegm was hacked up vocals ensued.

I have the same nostalgic feeling.I went to see them in the late 80's during their first gigs in Paris.
They were a bit crazy but the atmosphere was great. Björk had already an incredible presence on stage.
I really love this first album.

Really good stuff!  Good match of the band and the vocals.  BaJork-like in a good way.
its funny that this sounds like early U2..

Stands up pretty well for music that was avant garde 20 years ago.  I like all of the Sugarcubes records, especially Bjork (and not much since).

Oh, and a segue into Neko.  Nice!

How nice to hear this! I had this CD back in the day when I first started college. Reminds me of playing it in my car driving to class. Although I don't care for most of Bjork's solo stuff, I always loved this album. Sadly, I don't have it anymore..may need to get me another copy.
I wouldn't consider myself a huge Bjork fan, but I gotta say that on this one -- and on Big-Time Sensuality, as well, I think is the one -- she just lights it up and smacks it around! Gawd, that gal got the power -- she do!
great record. there are much better songs than this though. deus, delicious demon, birthday i believe deserve airplay (RP-play) more than coldsweat.
back when Bjork was tolerable for more than one song....
An absolute bjorker!
scrupulously clean...
I am feeling generous today: 2

Agreed! I gave this a 7 but there are a few 9's on this album. I'm not sure anything drops below a 7. (no 10's -- I'm stingy handing out 10's to anyone )

Her face sure looks more rounded...
Very cool! I thought that I'd never hear any Sugarcubes tunes on RP. This is one of the best. None of Bjork's solo work can compare to this!
I remember this - the definitive sugar cubes tune - It sure is a lot of work to listen to this now...
I *thought* it sounded like Bjork!
The Sugarcubes! More songs is clearly needed, especially "Hit" where MC Einar gives an example of Icelandic rap.
Well i liked it 7 :)
"I break out...in a coooold...sweat!"
As with most Bjork songs, So over dramatic it loses it's power and just becomes her scraming and wailing. some call it "genious". I call it lame and annoying!

i don't know that i agree that bjork has lost her edge at all; music is just different now than it was in 1989. also, bjork's solo career has been very electronica/ambient/beats-oriented, whereas the sugarcubes were much more straightforward 80s style alterna-rock. i do agree with your first statement tho -- one of my favorite things about the sugarcubes was that it was always -- and admittedly so -- just a lark on their part. they were just a bunch of kids from iceland having a fun time, and that abandon and fierceness is present in the music.

Gosh, I liked her so much better when she was with Sugarcubes.

This disc rocked my world back when it came out - I remember thinking how crazy-raw her vocals were --- her solo stuff is cool, but it doesn't match the intensity of the stuff with the Sugar Cubes.
