I wish someone would remix this album. I love the raw, youthful earnestness but the mix is thin and unbalanced. It almost sounds like there was a high pass filter used.

I love Bjork and her music. It's always sounded fresh and daring to me. The Sugarcubes was the perfect launching pad for her, and always remind me of being the Scandinavian B-52's.

Holy crap... I must admit, weird as she is, she's easily my favorite Icelandic import and I (shameless pig that I am) would be hard-pressed to take a pass on such a potentially life-altering experience should I miraculously find myself in some form of contention there.  (Ha!)  BUT NOW, thanks to good ol' Max here, there's simply no way that I'd be able to remove that image from my mind enough to properly reciprocate — and man, that's just a big damn shame.  

So, thanks for screwing that up for me and probably for several other...uhh...dreamers here, ya wanker.  Seriously though, thanks also for the laugh!

One of my favorite singers... loved her immediately when this album came out.

I find it amazing that I *consistently* cannot stand the sound of Bjork, except when she's singing w/ the Sugarcubes. Somehow, the the Sugarcubes sound meshes with her voice and makes it work nicely. Otherwise she's nails on the chalkboard. {#Eek}

I have the same nostalgic feeling.I went to see them in the late 80's during their first gigs in Paris.
They were a bit crazy but the atmosphere was great. Björk had already an incredible presence on stage.
I really love this first album.

Stands up pretty well for music that was avant garde 20 years ago.  I like all of the Sugarcubes records, especially Bjork (and not much since).

How nice to hear this! I had this CD back in the day when I first started college. Reminds me of playing it in my car driving to class. Although I don't care for most of Bjork's solo stuff, I always loved this album. Sadly, I don't have it anymore..may need to get me another copy.

As with most Bjork songs, So over dramatic it loses it's power and just becomes her scraming and wailing. some call it "genious". I call it lame and annoying!

i don't know that i agree that bjork has lost her edge at all; music is just different now than it was in 1989. also, bjork's solo career has been very electronica/ambient/beats-oriented, whereas the sugarcubes were much more straightforward 80s style alterna-rock. i do agree with your first statement tho -- one of my favorite things about the sugarcubes was that it was always -- and admittedly so -- just a lark on their part. they were just a bunch of kids from iceland having a fun time, and that abandon and fierceness is present in the music.

Or perhaps its the drive to become successful, famous, known and not merely to sustain those ambitions achieved. Anyway, the Sugarcubes rock supreme and Bjork really has lost her edge. This disc rocked my world back when it came out - I remember thinking how crazy-raw her vocals were --- her solo stuff is cool, but it doesn't match the intensity of the stuff with the Sugar Cubes.
