As someone commented in another Malkmus tune on RP, the cool thing about him is the feeling that he could careen off into chaos at any time. Definitely the feel with Pavement, and in little bits with the relatively unproduced stuff he's done for his solo work. You want some bad notes? Check out a concert of his, but they do rock!

Yes, something without too much polish (that's like the thing you do with wax). Yes something that leaves me a little curious about the margins of the songwriter's consciousness. Is that an echo of personality in the music. Behold, follow that light! IOW good song...

couldn't have said it better myself... except sometimes the fun was that they were already spinning apart when the song started. still good to hear some Malkmus, since it doesn't look like RP has any love for Pavement.
