Remember when I heard Enya for the first time, back in 1991. It was in a whiskey TV ad here in Mexico. There was no Shazam, Spotify, Apple Music or Google at all. It was a journey to find that she was the one... almost 20 years later, I still enjoy Watermark, Shepherd Moons, Caribbean Blue...

I remember this song from my childhood... specifically modern dance classes on Saturday mornings. Has a certain time-suspending quality for me... is beautiful.

wow... Bill, you must be physic - in Ireland, Enya is regarded as a recluse. She lives in a fantastic castle on the Southside of Dublin overlooking the sea with the Wicklow mountains in the background. She very rarely gives interviews ... but, guess what - at this very moment as I listen to RP, she is being interviewed live on the Late Late Show (Irish TV) - spooky!!!!!!!!!! Besides all of that - nice in small doses!!!

OMG - Bill's playing Enya. I'm gonna need a Slayer hi-colonic after this. I have to say, I liked her stuff at first in the early 90s. Then as I listened, I realised that a lot of her stuff sounds contrived and bullshitty. Needless to say, I can't stand her. This gets a 1.

My dad would listen to this when he was battling with cancer so he could relax and remove himself from the pain. We would just sit and listen... not talk at all. We didn't need to. Enya's music will always stir up a memory of peacefulness, simplicity and togetherness. No soul in her music? Whatever. It runs scathingly deep for me.

Amen. I'm so sick of self-righteous "critics" who deem themselves authorities on whether an artist has "soul" or not. Like many others who commented here, I was blown away when I first discovered Enya (via this album). There was -- and still is -- nothing else like it. I personally believe she put PLENTY of soul into it. And it speaks to mine. SO THERE! :P

I have to agree in a limited way. I don't think Memory of trees was horrid, exactly, but it certainly was more of the same sound rehashed without some of the grandly sweeping tunes and simply poetic tunes that were so memorable from her first three efforts. Enya has given me years of pleasure (I remember the bliss of making the "discovery" of her music!), so I hope that she is able to stay innovative, and doesn't continue to make cookie cutter songs in the "Enya" style.
