Wave goodbye
Everybody waves goodbye
Climb aboard the train
Turn and wave goodbye again

Some go north, some go south
Maybe east, some left out
Some are rich, some are poor
but everybody's got to wave

Wave goodbye
We're headed for the other side
The sun shines brighter there
and everyone's got golden hair.

They went north, they went south
Maybe east, some left out
Some are rich, some are poor
someone blessed somewhat more

Because I'm sick
We're gonna find the ones that left
A boy climbs aboard the train
never to wave bye again

They went north, they went south
Maybe east, some left out
Some are rich, some are poor
but everybody's got to wave

Don't you cry
We made it to the other side
The sun's not brighter here
it only shines on golden hair

I went north, I went south
Maybe east, some left out
Some are rich, some are poor
but everybody's got to wave

ditto.
Quality at it's finest.

Ashamed at self for never paying too much attention to Escovedo. Always meant to get to one of his frequent shows in the A. Never done even that. Shaking my own head. What a fine song.
love this album, thanks Bill
Easy listening
It's obviously been around a while, even on RP, but it just penetrated my consciousness recently. Gorgeous song. I like Alejandro already, but had a hard time understanding that this is him. 8.

Great to hear Alejandro here, a criminally underrated artist.  I've loved this song for years.

Echo the criminally underrated. First time I've heard this song. Every time I hear a new-to-me song of his I wonder why have I never heard this before?!!

Ear worm... Gets in my head and stays for days... Not a bad thing. Just a Thing.

what's with the stupid stoner accent? Weak.......

Blue Rodeo would fit right after this one. Alejandro and Greg Keelor of Blue Rodeo have similar vocal styles and sound.

Where's redmachine?  This got one of his/her "rare" 1 ratings...  I might bump this to 10, just to balance the scales a bit... {#Sunny}
This song sucks... that is all.
I love pretty much everything Alejandro Escovedo does.  Something about his voice, his music, the way his lyrics are deceptively simple yet incredibly layered and complex... He's a thinker as well as a writer.  Solid 9 for this. {#Sunny}
8—->9

My absolute favorite AE song!
A great, great song writer.

I discovered him in the '80s, through the "True Believers".

ditto,  "Like an Animal" is one of my fav albums. Please play more other older stuff like this one.  I wish I had discovered him 20 years ago.

Ditto...Alejandro is so underrated! He's a staple here in Lexington, KY. Heck... Bruce Springsteen asked him to do backup.
Thanks Bill for playing him. He is an incredible musician and has been around the block a time or two!

Another great Wimberley-ite!!
Do not like.

A pretty good one, like it.

Thanks for your nice response to the ballboy.

I realize that the blogosphere allows anyone to say anything they want, but that doesn't necessarily mean they should or that anyone would want to read it.

That would explain your loss of taste.

I've seen and talked with Alejandro since my last post and yes, Cleto of the Jimmy Kimmel Show is his nephew. And again, Alejandro's show was great!
What was I thinking? 5 --> 8 Neil
Damn. Stepped out and missed it. I've oredered Por Vida and hope to get it soon despite our mail strike.
Saw Alejandro Escovedo perform a couple of weeks ago. He put on a great show. I also got a chance to speak with him afterwards; really, really nice guy.

Any relation to Cleto Escovedo on the Jimmy Kimmel Show?
I love this song. Great album. He\'s right, ya know...\"everybody\'s got to \'wave\'\"...everybody.
Since you clearly know how to make an ass of yourself, I'd have give you the benefit of the doubt. matchball wrote:

But since this is undeniably a kick-ass song...consider yerself booted.
Alejandro is an extraordinary talent... This is a good song, but there are better including Velvet Guitar from this CD Gravity/Falling Down Again and Five Hearts Beating from his first solo CD. His health has been an issue in recent years, and don't know how often he performs live - but I've seen him 3-4 times and he always has an amazing show. Check out the AMG link for his bio - a well-respected man, indeed...

I was unaware that donkey balls were capable of sucking, seeing that they lack an orafice...
While I think they're fundamentally different, this tune really harkens me to The Wallflowers' "God Says Nothing Back." I think it's the subdued instrumentation and his voice, which is quite good. Quite likeable, certainly.

Saw him play a couple of years ago in a tiny venue called the Cactus Cafe in Austin with an audience of about 50 people. An acoustic set. He stepped down into the audience with another guitarist and a guy on bongos and a rattle and had everyone gather around and he sang this song and a couple of others. It was really moving. He's amazing live. Got really sick a couple of years ago with Hep C and almost died. Anyway, he's a hometown hero here in Austin. A real artist. That show was opened by Townes Van Zandt's son -- damn, forgot his fitst name. Anyway, I love Alejandro. If you get a chance to see him live, take it.
Didn't No Depression name Alejandro artist of the decade for the '90s? The guy's got it.

I always liked the song "Guilty," from the CD "With These Hands." This song's good, too - I like his vocals.
Agreed...great vocals
The guy's been sick on & off the last couple of years (Hep C), and like most musicians either without or without enough insurance. The more records he sells, the more medical bills he can pay. If you like it, buy it. It will help him out. There is also a double album tribute to him to raise funds. Details at (click here).
Huh... a set of songs for which the album art features a bunch of abstract painted mask faces.

Not for me. I picked up one of Escovedo's cds recently on a whim and the more I listen to it the more I like it. He has a unique sound, nothing bastardized or borrowed about it. Nice to hear him here. catsoup wrote:

There are songs from several discs by Alejandro Escovedo that warrant playing on this site. Like \"Nickel and Spoon\", \"I Was Drunk\", \"Crooked Frame\", and \"Rhapsody\"
I really dig Alejandro...... but bowing to the sense of the board, Bill, why not play something else off this (really fabulous) disc. Castanets is fun and funky. Bzch.

When this song first starts, I always think it\'s going to be the menu music from Grand Prix II. A great video game, but that music always drove me nuts. Thankfully this is not that song, and is considerably better. :)

Enough said Unintelligent is not two words but one. Regardless whether the privative is before the qualificative or vice versa it is still ONE word. Sorry :p By the way, have you ever wondered around cluelessly? On a strange terrain without compass it is rather easy to go up north and down south without knowing where you are going exactly.
The tedious repetition on this song is typical Escovedo. Since he\'s from Austin, he gets a lot of airplay down here and frankly, I\'m sick of the guy. He has one song -- a love song, if you can believe it -- that goes: Thirteen years Thirteen years Thirteen years Thirteen years Thirteen years Thirteen years Thirteen years Thirteen years I kid you not. The guy needs a lyricist.
