Ashamed at self for never paying too much attention to Escovedo. Always meant to get to one of his frequent shows in the A. Never done even that. Shaking my own head. What a fine song.

It's obviously been around a while, even on RP, but it just penetrated my consciousness recently. Gorgeous song. I like Alejandro already, but had a hard time understanding that this is him. 8.

I love pretty much everything Alejandro Escovedo does.  Something about his voice, his music, the way his lyrics are deceptively simple yet incredibly layered and complex... He's a thinker as well as a writer.  Solid 9 for this. {#Sunny}

Ditto...Alejandro is so underrated! He's a staple here in Lexington, KY. Heck... Bruce Springsteen asked him to do backup.

Alejandro is an extraordinary talent... This is a good song, but there are better including Velvet Guitar from this CD Gravity/Falling Down Again and Five Hearts Beating from his first solo CD. His health has been an issue in recent years, and don't know how often he performs live - but I've seen him 3-4 times and he always has an amazing show. Check out the AMG link for his bio - a well-respected man, indeed...

While I think they're fundamentally different, this tune really harkens me to The Wallflowers' "God Says Nothing Back." I think it's the subdued instrumentation and his voice, which is quite good. Quite likeable, certainly.

Saw him play a couple of years ago in a tiny venue called the Cactus Cafe in Austin with an audience of about 50 people. An acoustic set. He stepped down into the audience with another guitarist and a guy on bongos and a rattle and had everyone gather around and he sang this song and a couple of others. It was really moving. He's amazing live. Got really sick a couple of years ago with Hep C and almost died. Anyway, he's a hometown hero here in Austin. A real artist. That show was opened by Townes Van Zandt's son -- damn, forgot his fitst name. Anyway, I love Alejandro. If you get a chance to see him live, take it.

The guy's been sick on & off the last couple of years (Hep C), and like most musicians either without or without enough insurance. The more records he sells, the more medical bills he can pay. If you like it, buy it. It will help him out. There is also a double album tribute to him to raise funds. Details at (click here).

Not for me. I picked up one of Escovedo's cds recently on a whim and the more I listen to it the more I like it. He has a unique sound, nothing bastardized or borrowed about it. Nice to hear him here. catsoup wrote:

When this song first starts, I always think it\'s going to be the menu music from Grand Prix II. A great video game, but that music always drove me nuts. Thankfully this is not that song, and is considerably better. :)

The tedious repetition on this song is typical Escovedo. Since he\'s from Austin, he gets a lot of airplay down here and frankly, I\'m sick of the guy. He has one song -- a love song, if you can believe it -- that goes: Thirteen years Thirteen years Thirteen years Thirteen years Thirteen years Thirteen years Thirteen years Thirteen years I kid you not. The guy needs a lyricist.
