Did you never call? I waited for your call
These rivers of suggestion are driving me away
The trees will bend, the cities wash away
The city on the river there is a girl without a dream
I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry

Eastern to Mountain, third party call, the lines are down
The wise man built his words upon the rocks
But I'm not bound to follow suit
The trees will bend, the conversation's dimmed
Go build yourself another home, this choice isn't mine
I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry

Did you never call? I waited for your call
These rivers of suggestion are driving me away
The ocean sang, the conversation's dimmed
Go build yourself another dream, this choice isn't mine
I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry

Not liking this live version at all.  The album cut is one of my all-time fav REM tracks.

Agreed.  This one sounds like they're all really tired at the end of a long night.  Flat and uniisprired.

marginal at best, even compared to that counting crows live thing that was on a few minutes ago. and i really like rem from beginning to today. this song isn't even on the two albums listed above.....disappointing on a saturday morning....play the album version, play some other live rem material, get rid of this song
Yeah, he's painfully flat.

so sorry to disagree with the crowd. i've been a fan since they formed. i like this version much more than the studio version, which was to edgy and hyper in comparison. ttfn. buck
I love this song, but this version is sloppy and dull
an okay version, a little muddy sound-wise... noticed that he changed "girl" to "boy" in the lyrics, too.
Studio version doesn't seem this monotonous.
The apology just doesn't sound sincere to me. Maybe he should say "sorry" a couple more times. Always liked this song.
