Wake from your sleep
The drying of your tears
Today, we escape
We escape

Pack and get dressed
Before your father hears us
Before all hell breaks loose

Breathe, keep breathing
Don't lose your nerve
Breathe, keep breathing
I can't do this alone

Sing us a song
A song to keep us warm
There's such a chill
Such a chill

You can laugh
A spineless laugh
We hope your rules and wisdom choke you

Now we are one in everlasting peace
We hope that you choke, that you choke
We hope that you choke, that you choke
We hope that you choke, that you choke

i didn't know that, but now it makes perfect sense. i've always loved this track. all of the album, but i just love this track so much.
This song and album blew my sixteen year old mind.  They hold up among the absolute best out of all my teenage favourites. Transcendent.
Amazing!
Goosebumps!  A solid 10
Can't help but get a bit of a Chopin/Jobim "How Insensitive" vibe off this… anyone else?
That is intense.
I think he died in the middle of the song
An absolute masterpiece! Still brilliant after all these years. 11/10
Brilliant piece from a band that just keeps getting better with age...like a fine whine :)

I'm a bit surprised that this song doesn't have more low ratings. Radiohead can be a polarizing band; they're one of my all time favorites in general and I agree with the sentiment that they are a lot like what Pink Floyd would sound like if they started out ~30 years later.

Probably, but Muse didn't get close to Radiohead. They never did.

What, you've never heard any U2?
Made a very memorable appearance as the "exit music" for the third season finale of Person of Interest.

Whenever I hear this song, it reminds of the episode of Father Ted where another priest, who's very depressed visits Ted who manages to cheer him up by playing him some disco on his turntable and getting him up and dancing. He gives his thanks to Father Ted as he leaves and gets on his coach home, with new found hope and a smile on his face he takes his seat and then this song starts playing on the coach stereo and you see his face fade from his new happiness to utter despair. I laughed so much my sides hurt. I love this song though.
I remember that episode! OK, good; now you're given me a new image for this song, because for real I was sitting here listening to this and wanting to take a 50-cent cab ride into the lake...

Weakest song on the OK Computer album. Which means it only gets a 7 from me. :D JCEntMan wrote:

Indeed, it feels so abrupt to be switched to another song. :(

I love Radiohead but this song sounds disjunct on its own. It belongs within the context of the entire album.

Isn't music amazing? This is one of my all time favorite songs. For me it falls into that "makes life worth living" category. Go figure.

I first heard OK Computer while hanging out in a Guatemalan shack drinking beer with a Peace Corps volunteer who lived at a great nature reserve. The CD was just about over and it finally dawned on me that this was just a fantastic collection of songs I'd managed not to hear before. The guy was a big Beck fan, too...good times.

I certainly am a RadioHead, but this song always brought me down way too much to appreciate it! I'm too depressed now to give it a 10.
I would be hard pressed right now to say exactly how sick I am of hearing Radiohead.

As an oldster who enjoys Radiohead as well as my George Harrison and Derek and the Dominos records, I found this attempt at generational polarization around this track very amusing.

It's amazing how Radiohead polarizes people, especially music lovers. This song always gives me goosebumps and makes me drop whatever I'm doing, because it's so intense. I find it hard to understand how someone can call this a bad song, but as they say, it takes all kinds... and it leaves me a chance to get a ticket at their next show ;-)

Uggh! This is in danger of becoming "Exit Music (From Radio Paradise)"
I've been hoping to hear this song all day! Thanks RP!!
Great set! It keeps getting better...
I like this song and I like this CD and I like Radiohead, but I definitely can see how others might not... That said, keep 'em playing

I was not enjoying this track but didn't start to want to drill a hole in my eardrum until the bad production set in. Then I saw it was Radiohead. Unsurprised, but very happy that I haven't already rated this a 1, since that means I have the pleasure of doing it now.
Que up the whole album, Bill. I'd like to hear Paranoid Android.

For the record, the word's "WHINY". And I don't find Radiohead to be such. But that's just my taste. And there just might be something behind so many people liking them...maybe you should give them another listen. Excellent tune, but I can't help but want to hear "Let Down" immediately after.
Radiohead have revealed little details about the new album to be released in 2006. I have written a couple of articles, including an mp3 of "Arpeggi" and video link for "House of Cards." (click here) (click here)

But wait...you don't know that it was written for the movie. It is afterall on a non-soundtrack album, too. I mean, they do also have a song called, "Motion Picture Soundtrack" on Kid A, so perhaps the title to this song is simply because when they wrote it, it sounded like the kind of song that would play at the end of a movie.

btw, this song is about beating the system right? Or the fact to get away from an evil ruler of some kind (i.e the system :) )
waaaaahhh! remove the nipple.. crybaby.

Whenever I hear this song I slowly increase the volume as the song goes on so that by the end it's almost defeaning. This is the kind of song that was meant to be played really loud; it adds to its effectiveness.
Beatiful !!!
Quite possibly the perfect song...

Don't blow off the tune because you don't like the mood of it! It really is brilliant. Haunting and moody has its place. And the transition from simple vocals and acoustic guitar to drum fill then heavy fuzz bass...very Floyd like and so enjoyable. Rarely can a song have such a strong crescendo/dimuendo and get away with it. This song pumps me up. One of Radiohead's best.
A 10. For sure. And now we are one in everlasting peace!

It's okay with the film. Without it, it's just an awful Cohen-alike.

Explains why the thought of slitting my wrists crossed my mind while listenting to this ( ) Well, would never do that, but it is a testimony to the fact that the music achieves its purpose. Strangely enough I enjoy it.

Repeated listening to this tune would be a suitable alternative for capital punishment.
OK I heard it a second time. And the way I see it, with all these references to prozac, slashing wrists and such, I think we can all agree that they have definately communicated a particular state of mind very effectively. And that certainly must be a primary goal of any composer. For that, I declare the song a total success. I\'m just not sure I ever want to hear it again.
Deliciously dark! ;)
Oh NO! Not again! I needed Prozac the last time I heard it. I guess it\'s time I get another dose!
Perfect jump-out-the-window music. Where is this band from, so I know never to go there :p
I like to think of myself as openminded and not always in need of a accessible beats and sounds to appreciate a song but I'm flustered by this one. I make it a point to listen to any song a second time, but I suspect it's going to be tough for this one. I think the first comment about needing to be in the right mood is probably the best.
30 years from now people will remember this album the same way they remember Revolver today. A classic, and a perfect 10.
This is a song that will sour a good mood.

Take from me, that whenever you're really depressed, about the last thing you want, is to listen to a song like this (or any other song?) Like Pilgrim commented, it's more likely you're not depressed at all, "enjoying" a sad song.

GODLIKE for certain. high art, cheap pop, nothi9ng but depressing noise, whatever you may want to call it - it sounds absolutely gorgeous to me. doesnt get any better than this.
