I hear the thunder
Three miles away
The island's leaking
Into the bay
The poison is spreading
The demon is free
And people are running from
What they can't even see.

Face the fire
You can't turn away
The risk grows greater
With each passing day
The waiting's over
The moment has come
To kill the fire
And turn to the sun.

They'll take your money
And then take your health
To line their pockets with
Unequaled wealth
These men are under
The power of gold
We won't be safe until we
Shut them down cold.

Face the fire
You can't turn away
The risk grows greater
With each passing day
The waiting's over
The moment has come
To kill the fire
And turn to the sun.

The people came to the capitol town
One hundred thousand of them
Laid their hearts down
They screamed in anger
And broadcast their fears
Just to have them
Fall on deaf ears.

great song - hippies shut down nuclear power - 28 eight years later we still don't have solar power - so lets burn more coal and oil - maybe we should look at nuclear power again
RIP Dan
Solid effort. Thanks Dan.
Thanks for the music Dan. "and he gave a gift to me I know I never can repay"...

For those that don't remember (or were not born yet)... Wikipedia article on Three Mile Island I lived in Philadelpha, PA at the time (about 100 miles from TMI) and this song got a lot of air play when it came out. Too much, really. I was so sick of this song then. Ah, memories!
Cheers to Dan Fogelberg. May he rest in peace! This song "Face the Fire" is even more appropriate today than when it was first released 30 years ago! Whatever happened to music with a "message" instead of most of what is released now...with no more message than...."where's my ho's" or, "i'm an angry youth cause my parents didn't buy me a BMW".

well, get ready. I'm uploading more.

Saw them in concert together. It was a great show. He was not a "wimpy" singer. RIP.

Dan was often maligned for his "wimp rock", but he put out some real good stuff over ther years. He had Joe Walsh and some of the Eagles on his early works. This tune rocks! RIP, Dan!

'twas
One of my favorite concert memories: Dan playing a solo acoustic show at Cole Field house....

Dan, you will be missed! Yes, he defined "soft rock" for whatever it's worth - it got its commercial play on the radio. But I saw him live 3 times and he was amazing! His talents were underappreciated by commercial radio. See what you can do about that, RP.

Peace and God Speed to you Dan... Bill, thanks so much for this little nugget. Goose bumps up and down my back...have not heard this song for close to twenty years... Radio Paradise rules!
meh
the only place dan fogelberg ever popped up on my cultural radar was when i was in high school, and denis leary dropped this line in his "no cure for cancer" routine:
Explain it to me. Heavy metal bands on trial because kids commit suicide, what is that about? Judas Priest on trial because my kid bought the records, and he listened to the lyrics, and he go into Satan... ALLALALALALALLALA! Well that's great. That sets a legal precedent. Does that mean I can sue Dan Fogelberg for making me into a pussy in the mid '70s, is that possible, HUH?
RIP, Dan. I really wanted to hear this today. Thanks, RP.
RIP. I think his first 4 LPs and High Country Snows were some of the best ever recorded.
Thanks for playing this Bill. His music had a place in my life when I was young. The song "Leader of the Band" brought tears to my eyes every time. RIP Dan.
Wow , Dan died?! too bad, he was a great talent. I remember when this tune came out, what a time..... young , carefree, (somewhat) innocent.....
His early stuff was the best. RIP, Dan.
Play lots of Dan today
Very sorry to hear of Dan's passing, but so thankful for the opportunity to hear his music.

Sorry, can't see what problems people have with this. This is my first time hearing it, and I think it's a well-rounded rock song with great guitar riffs and clean harmonies - maybe you're all attaching to many wacky memories to it, but hey we're here to rate the music on its own merits - as hard as it may be at times... Just my 2 Euro cent worth. pyxxel
Fogelberg did some really good stuff; unfortunately this came after his "sell by" date had expired. But it could be worse...it could be "Longer" from the same record.
I'm underwhelmed...

The guitar work is good and all... in fact, REALLY good. Too bad the song just absolutely sucks. I want to bash my head in about now.

We don't hear nearly enough Fogelberg here.
None is just a bit more than enough ....
This is one song from the 70's AM radio era that is better left behind in the 70's. I don't think I had heard this song since I was 6 or 7, and now I wish that was still the case.
Dan Fogelberg... I don't get it. I want to rip my ears off. first Sucko-Barfo.
I think I like the sappy stuff better. This is very average...almost hair-band like.

Nice memories. Loved this album, water-damaged cover and all. Good times.
I saw Dan 20 or so years ago and was blown away by his guitar work. Thanks for the reminder. This tune is a good one for it...
This started as a five and ran to a seven by the time he was done rocking the hell out. Dizamn!
Wow, I haven't heard this in what, 25 years or so. Great song. Thanks for the upload Kevin.
I wonder where my Phoenix album is? I played it over and over in high school, but had forgotten all about it. One of my first concerts too. A friend's older sister took us. Thanks for the memory. (And I hope Dan is doing well.)
Bill got into my moms basement and found my record collection? I have to dig this one out now...what a excellent surprise!
Nice blast from the past! Yes, naysayers, Fogelberg did make some good music. I, too, associate this song with high school years. Luckily, this musical memory is much better than the school ones.
I heard last week Dan has canceled touring (didn't know he still did) because of health reasons. Good luck to him.

One of my faves from my early HS years. I was okay with listening to Fogelberg until the 90's came along and Nirvana was in and 70's Lite Rock was out. Also, I was informed by Dennis Leary that I was a total wussy femmy for liking him. Oh well, F' him. I'm glad Fogelberg is here at RP. One more artist to listen to. :)
Damn, he can play - who knew!

Yes it is. Dan is the only credited guitarist on this entire album.

always loved this guy's voice - the backup band's not too shabby either.
Looking forward to hearing this on RP. One of my favorites.
