Too low to find my way
Too high to wonder why
I've touched this place before
Somewhere in another time
Now I can hear the sun
The clouds drifting through the blinds
A half a million thoughts
Are flowing through my mind

A satellite recalled your voice
Sent me round the world again
All the night you've dreamt away
Sent me round my heart again
One touch upon my lips
And all my thoughts are clear
I feel your smoky mist
Up to the stratosphere

Too low to find my way
Too high to wonder why
I've touched this place before
Somewhere in another time
Now I can hear the sun
The clouds drifting through the blinds
A half a million thoughts
Are flowing through my mind

Too low to find my way
Too high to wonder why
I've touched this place before
Somewhere in another time
Now I can hear the sun
The clouds drifting through the blinds
A half a million thoughts
Are flowing through my mind

( French Version )

Trop déprimée pour m'en tirer
Trop bien pour rien piger
J'ai deja connu cet état
Ailleurs plein d'autrefois
J'entends le soleil
Les nuages par les volets
Un million de pensées
Envahi mon esprit

Un satellite rappelait ta voix
orbite dans le monde pour toi
Tu as revé toute la nuit
En envie de mon coeur
Je t'effleures des levres et puis
Ca me donne les idées claires
Je sens ton suc se dissiper
Jusqu'a la stratosphere

Trop déprimée pour m'en tirer
Trop bien pour rien piger
J'ai deja connu cet état
Ailleurs plein d'autrefois
J'entends le soleil
Les nuages par les volets
Un million de pensées
Envahi mon esprit

Pam Bricker, the vocalist on this track, was found dead the other day, a victim of suicide. Here is the obit from the Washington Post - The Warshington Post wrote:

"Growing Up With Jazz." She read B.F. Skinner's "Walden Two" when she was 12 and later left college for a semester to research a paper on utopias. She traveled to the Twin Oaks commune in Louisa, Va., which was known for producing rope hammocks. "I lived there for 2 1/2 years until I was just sort of overwhelmed by the desire to become a musician," she told a reporter. She alternated between Massachusetts and Virginia, auditing classes, singing in coffeehouses and working her way into the Copley Plaza Hotel lounge in Boston. She returned to Twin Oaks after her nervous breakdown. In 1981, she settled in the Washington area with Branwyn, a freelance technical writer whom she met at the commune. With her guitar, she was soon playing folk-heavy music at a health food restaurant called Food for Thought, where she met Mary Chapin Carpenter. "We got together a few times to sort of jam and pick and grin, and then she became the world's most famous folk and country crossover artist," she told Stokes. Increasingly interested in jazz, she began expanding her songbook. After Harris spotted her at Charlie's Georgetown, they formed Mad Romance, which played at Blues Alley, the Monterey Jazz Festival and the Blue Note in New York. After the group disbanded in 1987, she and Harris continued to sing duets at area clubs and made several inventive, sprightly albums. A musical restlessness persisted, though, and she later moved in other directions. "As the '90s wore on," she told Stokes, "I felt an urge to break out of such a straight-laced jazz frame of mind and repertoire. I said: 'Jazz, like crime, doesn't pay. You have to mix it up and modernize it.' " Survivors include her husband, from whom she was separated, of Arlington; a son, Blake Maloof of Arlington; her father, Peter Bricker of Pine Knoll Shores, N.C.; a brother; and a sister. © 2005 The Washington Post Company

Furry Freak Brothers cover.

I remember both from the mid/late 70s when I was stationed in the UK. Blond Lebanese was OK, but Red Lebanese was the BOMB! Red sticky tar ball that had a nice peppery taste, IIRC. Ahhhh memories.....

Wish I could find some Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers comics.

Acid jazz? Only here on RP would one find that.
Good Tune!! I never heard it before.  Thanx RP!
Shades of Morcheeba...?

I like the Beer reference.  But Skunk is to good blow what IPA is compared to a  (La Trappe) Tripel.

Right ON!
Oh, YES! A fave song - and third in a most impressive, applause-worthy set from Bill today:

Pink Floyd - Shine On You Crazy Diamond
Peter Gabriel - Of These, Hope
Thievery Corporation - Lebanese Blonde

{#Cheesygrin} {#Clap} {#Music}

(I only wish I had been at my desk for Shawn Colvin - Shotgun Down the Avalanche and Florence + The Machine - Long & Lost a few songs prior!)
When I look out my window
Many sights to see
And when I look in my window
So many different people to be
That it's strange, so strange
You've got to pick up every stitch
You've got to pick up every stitch
You've got to pick up every stitch
Mmm-mm-mmm, must be the season of the witch
Must be the season of the witch, yeah
Must be the season of the witch

A staple in my playlists. Thievery Corp was one of the best Chill groups to come out of trip hop.

Just bumped this to a 10. It's a 16 year old song that has aged well. It's so smooth and mellow. I always stop to take the song in when it comes on.
Superb
Irresistible.
Nice groove!

Because it saves you the 1 second it takes to click on the Lyrics link or because random lyrics from other songs are more fun to read than comments from people who are just criticizing the song or others opinion?

Even after listening to this tune how many times, I just now heard the bass line as Donovan's "Season of the Witch". Kinda cool. It's not exactly the same riff, but a similar progression. Sounds like it's probably in the same key too.

This song is in A minor, Mr. Leitch's tune is in A major. The bass line is similar though, but each has only five different notes.

I LOVE this song (my fave from the Garden State soundtrack) - but I can't believe I've never heard this French version before! Since my college major was French, and I love all things Francophile, now I love this song even more.

Had to know, so I looked it up.  The English is the "original version" according to wiki.   I think I prefer the fluidity (meter?) of the lyrics in the English version.

Yes. nearly the same bass line.

That is because we are a bilingual nation, and ''blonde'' works in English and in French.
(BTW ''blonde'' has an alternate meaning in French: girlfriend.)
