This was so quiet I had to turn my stereo way up just to hear if something was playing at all. Then I had to jump to the volume and crank it down when the next song started.

Greetings, I want to recommend an old documentary film of Gipsy (Romany) music, from India, Turkey, Romania, Spain, and many other places: it is called Latcho Drom, and it is the real thing. Less polished than the irrepressible Gipsy Kings (whom I like a lot!), and very heartfelt music. Highly recommended! (click here) Neil

Ouch! Spelling stands corrected... otherwise, having first attended concerts while spending 6 of my teenage years in London, UK; could this be the first time this californicator has been lumped in with the red state crowd? Possible thanks to W. for widespread international resentment.

They're cute alright and they've played the American crowd like a charm. That said you want real flamenco listen to Manitas de Platas...now there's some real guitar playing there

I've seen them twice, once at a large outdoor venue (3rd row) and once at a smaller indoor venue (Jones Hall - (last row). Both shows were excellent but had totally different vibes. The outdoor show was lots of drunken dancing and partying while the Jones Hall show had a bunch of stuffy folks in suits and evening dresses. Either way, I'll make sure to get my tickets early for the next tour.

Sorry to say that I'm in agreement with WordMariner. I saw Gypsy Kings at Mountain Winnery - one of the greatest venues on earth - most of the crowd appeared drunk on cheap wine - these guys seem to let their egos be inflated by the lowest common denominator. A clear contrast from McLaughlin, DiMeola & DeLucia who didn't seem to let the adulation go to their heads when I saw them live together years ago.

I had the immense good fortune to live in southwestern Spain (Andalucia) for 4 years. Musically, it was very satisfying. "Sevilliana", as it is called there (Flamenco is similar, in the way bluegrass and country are similar), is as much or more a part of life there as bluegrass is linked to Applachia. The music has had a similar resurgence in recent years, largely due to the influence of gems such as the Gipsy Kings. Not every band needs to be adventurous constantly....IMO, anyway. There is something to be said for just being very, very, very good at what you do. Otherwise, we'd have a universe of Sigur Ros bands-- fun for a while, but largely unsatisfying over time. PS: I had heard before that they were actually French, as another commenter had suggested. Hard to believe... but I can't find it on Google to verify. Can anyone provide proof of that?

these guys are technically proficient, but they kind of suck on the originality scale. i like them and all that, but c'mon y'all, this is NOT adventurous music! it's just just a regurgitation of stuff that's already been done a MILLION times! i'm just responding to all the positive frothing i'm seeng here. the gipsy kings are really good, but, imho, a little uninspired in the creativity department. they need to spread their wings a little. the flamenco thangy is is SO already (very well) overdone. they are dropping the ball and wasting their immense talent in the service of hackneyed clichés. i gave it a 5.

i married a spaniard, and even though this group is french, they are constantly in rotation on the cd changer in the living room. i mean, constantly. if my wife had to rescue something from the burning building, i don't doubt the cd stacks would get rifled through, and the gipsy kings would be safe!

My boyfriend introduced me to this group by trying to take me to one of thier concerts. When I asked who the Gipsy Kings where he said "Only the best band on Earth." I wouldn't quite say that, because I don't really make those kind of judgements. But they are still pretty awesome. :D

When you think this is great, than you\'ll love The Rosenberg Trio as well, I think.

I just can\'t say a bad thing about the Gipsy Kings. If I were stranded on an island with only one group\'s music for the rest of my life, it would be there\'s. That\'s my story and I\'m sticking to it. Anton

Thanks Miss Jenn for the info :-). I love the Gipsy Kings too. I play Spanish classical guitar (played actually) and they are an inspiration to me.

I guess I wouldn\'t normally give a song like this a 10, but it\'s fairly late in the evening, and this perfect just fit my mood perfectly, bravo for reading my mind Radio Paradise. Jim
