I love Bela but this sounds ...like Spiro Gira.
Béla Fleck - New South Africa

Sting - They Dance Alone (Cueca Solo)

One worse than the other. {#Headache}

What an amazing sound, the fusion of African and Bluegrass, must get this Album ...

Didn't your mothers ever teach you that if you ain't got nuffin nice to say, then shut yer trap?

Very under-rated: bumping up.

Haven't you learned that in America you're free to express yourself? This song really sucks, btw.
I was privileged to experience Bela Fleck and the Flecktones in Omaha, NE and have never been the same since.  Amazing.
Your comment seems more like a personal insult to this band, instead of focusing on the actual music. Need clarity.

Whenever I hear Bela Fleck, it reminds me of walking through the parking lot of Red Rocks to go hear Widespread Panic perform on a warm, bright, summer day in Colorado.  There was a VW bus (of course!) of folks sharing Bela with nearby folks.  It was the first time I ever heard 'em...  Excellent memory.   {#Bananajumprope}
I _think_ I tried to upload some King Sunny Ade and it got bonged.  I like his groove a little better than Bela
7 for this song from me.

Yeah, good call.  Also from Genesis Duke album.  Definitively hear the lines behind....

More smooth jazz.

Yet another self-indulgent abusive trolling by our resident depressive grump, Excelsior. At least he didn't post the same abuse 3 times on the trot for this song.

Really, not D_ _ _lick as I'd suspected?! And I wasn't glad to learn that you...you...you..time waster! Anyway, Kenny D didn't play on the song, right?!

The new South Africa Motto:
"Hey, It could be worse. . . we could be like Zimbabwe (soon to be spelled ZimBob'sWay)"
WTF? This song rocks. You don't get it, obviously.

Thought it was Pat Metheny.... This is really nice
Wow, that devolved pretty quickly towards the end.

I hear it!
Awesome song, great album - you've got to see these guys in concert - they rock!(er, newgrass!)

Still sounds like Dave Matthews. Which is still a bad thing.
RP has fusion as well! Great! What about a tune of the Pat Metheny Group?
Did y'all know that Kenny G's real name is Kenneth Gorelick?
Too many notes!
Winamp is telling me that the name of the artist is "Bla Fleck." Perhaps it's hinting that this is not his best song?

I'm loving the variety of world music being played today. Keep it and the funny comments coming!
Like Dave Matthews without Dave Matthews. Which is a good thing.

It might have been fun to hear live, but it went on for about 30 minutes too long.
The comments on most Fleck music on RP highlight the destructive evil that is Kenny G. I'm frustrated that any time the music contains prominent soprano sax people instantly refer to Kenny G. I don't blame the listeners that much, mostly just that evil G-man.
This music sounds like the liberation of an entire country: joyous, free, inspired. I love it! www.myspace.com/treehouseonline
Kenny G playing in a cornfield with some locals he scraped together.

Sax and fries?
I'm gonna liken this (& most of Bela) to Yngwie Malmsteen. Incredibly musically talented beyond both mortals & demigods. But, the music gets lost in its own technical mastery.
Stick a potato in that sax and you'd have something.
"The String Cheese Incident" meets Pat Metheny. What's not to love!!!!
I guess this music poses the question: Does Eclectic music = music that doesnt fit any mold? I find listening to Bella kinda like listening to Kenny G meets some wierd Jazz / World Music band and to be honest It does nothing for me... it reminds me of Kenny G and Yahni and John Tesh No thanks
make it stop.
Despite its busyness, this album's tone always kind of reminded me of elevator/background music. Bela has some much better stuff. I like the bluegrass on Deviation.

They really need to drop Michael Bolton from their act.
Bela Fleck can do a lot better than this, and does. This cut sounds like a Dave Matthews instrumental to me.
I think I'm supposed to like this fellow a lot more than I actually do. He's obviously got chops and taste, and surrounds himself with good players, but I'm still waiting for my appreciation to kick in. Still waiting ...
saw Bela with Jean Luc Ponty and Stanley Clarke this summer outdoors in Utah. Wow! Thanks for the flashback to warmer days...
Definitely decent if a little noodle-y. One can only listen to banjo-jams for so long. Bela Fleck is one of those musicians you like right away and inevitably grow out of; witness the teeny-boppers and oldsters trying to recapture their youth at BF concerns.
have good, get give babyarm
I hear a Phil Collins Genesis song but I can't remember the title...
If only they could use real drums in that band...
CAN WE SWITCH THIS SET UP A BIT?!
Live Art (especially disc one) is an amazing set. Have spent many hours listening to Bela's magic.

OK. OK. OK. Bela is the modern master of the progressive jazz banjo.
Yes. Let's just leave it there, 'k? Do we question Jimi's solos? If you can play, play! And record it so the rest of us get to hear and appreciate. Great musicianship all around on this one, though the track quality is a bit rough (esp. on the crashes). Anyone got a higher bit rate to offer?
OK. OK. OK. Bela is the modern master of the progressive jazz banjo. ...but does he have to KEEP proving it?
I found this music extremely annoying even before I checked the playlist and saw it was Bela Fleck
i like some bela, but this seems to be a combination of the worst of him + the worst of dave. sorry.

For the record, Bela has appeared on several Dave Matthews Band songs. One that comes to mind is "Don't drink the water". The saxophone player has also played on some DMB songs. So, really they sound a lot like....well.....themselves. =>

I guess that region is where they get their signature sound from. I believe they're originally from there.
F'n A!

Bela was on my Christmas CD wish list last year and just might make it again
