They call her Mississippi
But she don't flow to me
Spends her light on the Bayou
But she don't come to see
She's the one that makes my dreams
They call her Mississippi
But she don't flow to me

The shape of her horizon
Makes the morning sun
When she puts her eyes on
Each and anyone
She's the one that makes me fall
Midnight moon shines through it all

She's the one that makes me fall
Midnight moon shines through it all
She's the one that makes my dreams
They call her Mississippi
But she don't flow to me
They call her Mississippi
But she don't flow to me

For a couple of months around 2004/2005, I was working with a buddy in western New York. Each Monday, I would drive from my home in northern New Jersey to his place. I'd head home Friday night. It was about six hours each way.

Before I had an iPhone or MP3 player, I would record Radio Paradise streams to my computer, then burn the captured audio to CD to play in my car during my 6-hour-each-way commutes. This song was one of those songs I'd recorded that instantly takes me back to those times, driving very late at night with few cars on the road.

Love these stories. Thanks.
such a good song for driving, isn’t it?
The bass adds a lot of interest here -- keeps it from being monotonous.
Very nice. Soothing. Instantly likeable.

Too smooth
Perfect tempo. A soft, inexorable drive.

(hey, first comment in 6 years)
Plodding drum beat - c’mon buddy, throw in the occasional fill or roll. Otherwise pretty good, rated a 6.
this is pretty damn smooth
Me likes the Miles Davis horn essence

The guitar reminds me of a Tears for Fears song, the name of which slips my mind at present.  "Woman in Chains" possibly?   Like both songs. Solid 7 to me.

It's the rolling guitar riff.   Quite similar and prominent.  I like both tunes.
More Glorious Voices !! 20/10 flowing now ☃️

I like this. This CD is on my list (hey, got 2 kids to put thru college; can't be buying CD's all the time! ). I think I will move it to the number 1 spot, so next time I go to get a CD, it will be this one. And just for the record (groan), I like Drops of Jupiter very much...even if it did get "over-played". pbm 8^)

I can't remember the last time I saw "CD" in a paragraph three times. Thanks for the flashback!
How about we all just enjoy the music...

A bit recursive.

That's a 4 year olds interpretation of what he said.  What he did say is instead of whining about a song, artist, singer whatever, offer constructive criticism of what it is that doesn't appeal but perhaps some people are just plain incapable of doing that and whining really is the best they can manage.

Saw them live over labor day 2016 weekend.  Very fine and entertaining show.  Go see them if you can.

Hate.  Hey, it was discussed earlier.

First context.  I learned at an early age to distinguish between "I hate this flavour" and "I hate the Nazi military occupation force".

There are people in the world, you use the word 'hate' in the proper context.  Norwegians who lived through the WW II occupation by Nazi troops.

The English language easily describes those who don't particularly like the song.  A critic maybe?  A fucking retard that does not understand the artist?  Gee, I dunno?  Perhaps....  Not a hater.  Music is simply not worth hating.

That way when the US drone attack civilian casualties blow back in the form of attacks on American civilian targets, then the ordinary Americans can better understand the term 'hate'.

The best song I know of by them.....not a big Train fan at all but this is a definite thumbs up.

Not really, Fred.  Hating on haters makes a lot of sense and it's really more about hating on crybabies and instigators.  Folks who just can't leave it alone and just HAVE to post up some negative commentary about a song that they don't like (or singer whose voice they don't like) just to get under the skin of those that do like it.  As if they are somehow better music lovers or more intelligent about music.   ...or just plain pompous and full of themselves.

Sadly, you are often a prime member of this set of whiners when it comes to your personal dislikes.  On the other hand, you often post GREAT commentary when you are talking about a song and/or band that you like.  Perhaps you can engage in a little introspection and learn to be less negative while accentuating the quality commentary that you often post when you have something positive to say.  Just a thought.

I completely agree with Bill on this one... i really dislike most stuff by train (songs with references to "Soy Lattes" are unacceptable to me). However, this song is really, really nice.

HAHAHAHAHAHA!  I agree with Bill, this song is a departure for a band I usually ignore.

to kcar:  Trumpets and cornets sound very similar (I played a cornet for 7 years in the marching band), so I'll not hazard a guess on that point.  Whichever it is, it's definitely a cup mute -- the classic 'cool  jazz' sound.  Check things out here:  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mute_(music)#Brass

While I may agree that this is a decent tune, maybe you could find a better way to express yourself on RP.?.  Look, I'm not trying to be a hall monitor here; I can frequently be found swearing like a drunken steamboat captain, but I try to refrain from doing such in a forum such as this one here, where I frequently find myself being educated by the plethora of knowledgable listeners.  I do my best, and not always successfully, to leave the invectives to the artists to introduce in their songs - Just sayin', is all.
One of my favorite Train songs. Dreamy....

Wow...love it. And that album has to be from like 2000/2001.
Wow. What's She's doing now is just unreal. Thoughts and prayers go out to all those hit by the floods. God Bless you and help you heal.

channeling Corgan?
Lost this album in the big D (and I don't mean Dallas)

This album is another Brendan O'Brien and Nick DiDia production/engineering tag-team effort. Must have something to do with it!

Ok "Punkbot", and what music might you write? This is a great song by a band that can miss the mark pretty badly at times, but they have some "epic" moments for a pop band.
OMG...I haven't heard this song in years!! I had the pleasure of seeing train perform in an extremely small setting in El Cerrito, California about 7 years ago. There were only about 150 people there and they were absolutely amazing. I love this song and I love Train!!!

This song gets a lot of reactions. She's gone and You're movin on. If fact, you walked away from the table long ago. The relationship fell to pieces. No emotional glue could ever keep it together. This is not a pick me up song whats-so-ever. Keep listening to this song and you will be in an emotional coma. Cut the stings and rollllllllll on.....
