Guess you didn’t think enough about the whole song, who’s driving this bus? Another black mark for RP. Forget about a donation.
This song is not on Transformer.

It's the "Sweet Jane" half of "Intro/Sweet Jane" from Rock'n'Roll Animal.
Why no intro? Best part of the song.
Intro??? Missing 1/2 the song. Just saying.

Absolutely right! One of, if not best Intro's of all time. The whole track is i one of my 5 "desert island" tracks
Well this is just WRONG without the Intro.
Well, bad day in Paradise, I guess. My upload of "Sweet Jane" with the Intro from Rock N Roll Animal was sorried by Rebecca out of hand. Sorry Bill. I tried.
As we speak, Sweet Jane *with* the Intro from Rock N Roll Animal is being uploaded to the LRC. I will be sure to include Bill's personal request for this in the notes, so hopefully Rebecca will add it posthaste! By the way, the slot opened up when my upload of Jr. Walker's Allstars' "Shotgun" was added! Happy happy joy joy!

I agree 100%. Somebody needs to upload this from the original CD. The version on this "best of" doesn't include the intro. If the original CD splits it into two tracks (as I think it probably does - it was banded on the LP) I'd appreciate it if they could be combined into a single track. I know the ripping program I use (Audiograbber) will let you do that - not sure about others.
Everyone seems to agree that this NEEDS the intro....Its seem so half a**ed without it...
more Lou and VU!!!

so, it seems i'm not the first person to notice the missing intro. i need it, i want it, and i am only rating this the 3 it deserves without it. it would be an 8 or 9 with the intro.

Yeah, where is that great intro. I used to play in a band in the 70's and we covered this version complete with the great guitar duet intro. It was one of the songs I enjoyed playing the most. I played rhythm guitar and sang on this one. Ah, the memories/
I wanna hear the great intro to this song that was cut off in this version.

Yeah, all three chords are great. I especially like the last one. At the end of the song. When it's done. Meaning the song will go away for awhile. :?
What a song!!!!!!!

Steve Hunter.
The breadth of his talent, as witnessed over decades of extremely diverse albums, speaks for itself. Here, the raw power of rock 'n' roll on full display (although I agree there are better versions of this by Lou).
I understand the adulation for other versions of Sweet Jane, it's a frickin' amazing song and I'll still love it 50 years from now... but this version is LAME. He's not even singing, this is practically spoken word. No tune at all!
The ONLY Velvet Underground song I can stand. Lou Reed is SUCH a pompus ASS! The 60s are OVER and you are not relevant Lou! Get over yourself! :crown.gif:
There's just something perfect about the way Lou stutters and phrases the lyrics in the original on Loaded. The original really reaches a swelling climax at the bridge. But the chunky guitar solos on this one make it pretty cool as well. Recording quality sucks though.
DAMN this is a great song! Each time I hear it it's like the first time all over again. :D The Velvet Underground is definitely one of the very best rock'n'roll groups...ever.
Although I appreciate Lou Reed's talents very much, I preferr the version of Sweet Jane from The Velvet Undergorund Fully Loaded Edition of their album Loaded.

I hear what you're saying toastee. I don't get a lot of LR. But this song is music for Wild Side walking. It came to me at a time I was careening thru life just over your state line in Cayahoga County. Heavy drugs and debauchery makes this music very easy to groove on.
Possibly the GREATEST display of chord progression in a single song ever. Just got in from work and all finished for a Friday afternoon and then I turn on RP and hear this. Absolutely fantastic! Bill this was a SUPERB choice! Thanks for this it has set my mood for the weekend now.
I'm not biased or anything...I mean one of my best friends is a Lou Reed fan...just can't get into his stuff much....I guess his stuff is all about attitude and wry lyrical wit ...I just need more....like melody, fresh sounding chord progressions, ....doing more than just talking over the music would help

Great song, but man he should have taken singing lessons! ;)
It's the ragged, cigarette-abused, occasionally monotone speak-singing that makes Lou so wonderful!
Hooray for Lou Reed and VU!!! The world needs more of it!
Crank it up for the guitar intro. Missing? Crank it up anyway!

My comment exactly! Bill, surely a man of your acumen must know how powerful the intro to Sweet Jane from the Rock 'n Roll Animal is ...please! find that version and don't tease us again.
Great song, but man he should have taken singing lessons! ;)
DAAANG this ROCKS!!!
Probably his third best version of this (his own) song and still better than most artists best efforts.
Oh yeah. :D
Now we\'re rockin!
Lou Reed\'s Sweet Jane is what rock \'n roll is all about! An American Classic.
Ah. This makes up for the atrocity of Siouxsie & the Banshees cover of Dear Prudence.
Argh! My computer crashes and during the reboot, what do I miss? Sweet Jane. Damn. Caught it this time! Sweet! Jane! sweetfrickinjane.
Well this is quintessential high school stuff for me. The memories are endless.
C\'mon, Lou. Please buy your band (and yourself) a tuner. I\'ve heard elementary school orchestras that were more in tune than this song. This song has precious little merit in the first place (IMHO), but this version sucks out loud.
If any of you reading this don\'t have this Album (Rock and Roll Animal), and you would like work on buiding your own set of the 10 Best Live Albums ever, then you seriously need to buy this one. And just FYI: This song, while it rules immensely, isn\'t even the best one on the album, IMHO. (Plus the Intro isn\'t played here). Heroin and Rock & Roll have some of the most incredible guitar playing and musical intensity you\'ll ever hear.

Yes, yes and yes. Hail RP, too.

Well now, this song is cooooooool!

As mentioned by others, the guitarist is Steve Hunter. He was the same studio guitarist that "ghosted" the impressive soloing in the beginning part of "Train Kept A'Rollin'" by Aerosmith.
should be the theme for \"Firefly\". Ahhhh another moldy oldy. more moldy than ever in 2002.
What makes this version is the great, GREAT guitar introduction which lasts for a good three minutes, a song in its own right, that is inexplicably missing here. Bill, why don\'t we hear that?
The Cowboy Junkie\'s version of this song is dark and haunting. Margo\'s voice makes all the difference. I MUCH prefer that version.

I much prefer the Mott the Hoople version. Bill: any chance of hearing that or the Hoople album version of All the Young Dudes?

have to finally disagree with you here, Lily - I dig Cowboy Junkies' version much more than this. much and many props to Lou "the original" Reed though.
worlds better than the cowboy junkies...
Nice memories come to mind. A farmers son in my neighbourhood had this record and we played it together with, for in stance, the Dead Boys and other obscure records. A great contrast; life on the farm and listening to something like this when it was still new and thrilling.
I vaguely remember that the guitarists were graduates of the Detroit Wheels group that backed Mitch Ryder. Or am I hallucinating?
Is there a guest guitarist on this on? Some serious lead playing going on, and that ain\'t Lou I don\'t think...
Wonderful rendition... this one is a gem.
THANKYOU Bill, love this song. :) What the HELL happend to the INTRO BILL I'll send the real version to ya. Without the intro it just isn't the same :)
