Completely awesome. If real cake was this good I would be obese.

please somebody take the cake

Nick's the second recording engineer. The horns are performed by Vince DiFiore.

The awesome stupidity of the above comment is a perfect match for the perfect stupidity of this song. Kudos, sir.
F*%& Your couch!
Y'all know what Rick is saying about the couch (could it be Italian leather?). {#Wave}
Tin horns?

Hey, wow! It's the theme song from "Mission Hill"! Anyone else remember that one? After listening, I must say that the short, instrumental version is WAY better. Yikes. These lyrics make my brain hurt.

Yeah, I remember Mission Hill.  I own a nice little box set of the cartoon.

I agree that the short and sweet instrumental in it more upbeat.

But after listening to the lyrics, I can't help thinking about that character Ron.  (Although nothing tells me he is actually Italian ...)

Whatever ...

Nix the horn !

really good subject matter. I like the way Cake will explore areas where other bands just don't go.

Yep. 2 and dropping.
Dumb song. But I want one of those cool \"Parental Advisory\" labels to glue to my dog\'s forehead.
theres always room for Cake!
The break with the horns is awful!
The most Cakey Cake song.

I have decided that this song is dumb.
Love it. Fun song. Love the "leaf blower" sound at the beginning.
wow. that was an amazing transition from Ben Taylor Band's "Island" to this. i'm impressed :)

perfect.
Sorry, Cake fans...lyrically, this is pretty rough. When I find myself believing that even I could write better lyrics, it's a BAD song.

Oh, the circus horn music-- blah! Song was fine until then.
Thank God for that cheesy horn section !

Ouch! Zappa could get aware with cynicism because he was a true genius in several musical genres. This stuff is junk. Perhaps not a great comparison.

I'm thinking more a perverse version of They Might Be Giants -- quirky. Frank was not subtle in his satire; he went for the direct intellectual hit.
There are so many awesome Cake songs (I Will Survive, Let Me Go, Meanwhile Rick James..., Short Skirt/Long Jacket, Love You Madly, Sheep Go To Heaven, Walk On By)...but this just isn't one of them.
Y'know, you guys talk about the great lyrics, and the chorus really is pretty good. But that last verse, about the serrated machine... Bone stupid. Trying to be subtle and utterly failing, so it comes across as precious. When I read the British mags, I see this idiom once in a while. Had to guess the meaning from context, but I think I got it (but not the spelling): kack-handed. Fits. Had me going till then, though. But finally makes the narrator change from feeling superior to just being spiteful and jealous of the guy with the sofa.
Darn, I can't find the bouncing breasts icon.
"This song was enough to make me shut down WinAmp so I don't have to listen to it. Perosnally, I find the song offensive and it takes a lot to offend me. OTOH, it was a great excuse to put on my Poe CD "Haunted" to blot it out." Shut your sorry cakehole, cakehater! I wanna watch "Mission Hill" right now...
denied. this is the only cake song that i really HATE. i think the reason for it is because i hate the way he says "italian leather sofa." i'm not sure what it is, but it makes me nuts. perhaps i'll warm up to it sometime later on. it's not an all around crappy song, that's for sure. i like cake. heh. also, to the person who was OMG SO OFFENDED by this song - i'm sorry that you think it takes a lot to offend you, because it obviously doesn't, if the line about healthy bouncing breasts offended you. if it wasn't that line, then please, tell us all what was so offensive about this song. i'm digging and digging and i can't find it. and it really does take a lot to offend me.
Funk/Jazz fusion with kick-ass lyrics. Cake is genius.
It stings and it rocks! Vintage Cake. If I had my own damn theme music, I'd want these horns :P
Probably the greatest food-named band of all time!!
i love the way these guys use horns; it's hysterical
Please make it stop. makes me look for a new station everytime.
Bouncing on the Italian Leather Sofa, I love it!!!
Gimmicky... allright, oh yeah... oh no!
Lyrics reminiscent of Zappa. More please.

The song is great except they left out two lines: 1. HE doesn't care whether or not SHE's an island, as long as she has healthy breasts that bounce 2. When HE gets what HE wants, HE puts HIS gold watch away. Equal Opportunity Opportunism Thank you RP for letting me correct that omission!
I don't know - wouldn't you say that, politically speaking, your version and the original are two peas of a pod ;) I've been a big Cake fan since I heard their rendition of "I Will Survive" (I'm sorry - a full disco version really doesn't really give giving someone the boot the right feeling, and the Cake version does show off their ability). This song does give a sense of the plastic (or is that "silicone" - that's why those things are "healthy"!) society they "yuppies" are living in. Raven

Gee, Monkeysdad, that's the third or fourth time you've told someone to go watch PBS (myself included)...you sure you don't work for them? Seeing as they're the only broadcast network not directly beholden to corporate sponsors, I wouldn't be so quick to cast aspersions...I sure as hell don't see them as PC. Oh, the song? I like damn near everything Cake does...this song is no exception...especially the bouncing.
Deadpan hilarious snapshot of that urban earthly heaven realm inhabited by very superficial yuppies, a posh spot on the Wheel of Birth and Death in the Desire Realm regions of Samsara The mind reels imagining the equally significant hilarity, and possibly enormous offense, of a gay version , an at home with the guys from "Queer Eye.." bouncing something else on their Italian Leather Sofas
Personally, I like healthy breast that bounce. Certainly my fiance appreciates that I do, too.

I disagree to that extent that I think everyone and anyone belongs here, though naturally I'd prefer to exclude those hostile to each other. Those hostile to one song or another are sometimes irritating but on the whole fine by me; if there weren't different tastes, there'd be no taste at all. Song's fun as hell to me.
Cool! Upset listeners, clever lyrics, better production values than are apparent on the first review - what more could you want, indeed. Too bad the remix of the Prolonging the Magic CD (currently being marketed without a warning label) is so whimpy - buy an early copy at your friendly used CD store. Hem of my Garment is KILLER on the original mix.

Yeah, but this seems pretty slowed down compared to that theme version.
Funky, cool, smart, funny. What's not to like.
I like the song, the musicianship and the tongue-in-cheek sensibility. And I think the line that some find offensive is rather funny and has a bit of social commentary. Sorry, Tipper.
Never really payed too much attention to Cake, but this song rocks. Funny too. Offensive? Hmmmm...why are healthy breasts offensive. I shall listen closer next time. Great tune
I think those boys have been spending too much time out of doors.
More Cake, Bill.
Interesting to read the posts, especially the derogatory ones. This has a lot of the same elements that made Frank Zappa\'s music so fantastic - and so infuriating to a lot of people: 1. Complex instrumental arrangements 2. Lack of a consistent melody (sorry, Suzy Creamcheese!) 3. Lyrics that offend easily offended people A lot of people didn\'t like Zappa\'s music because he made you USE YOUR BRAIN and wrote and sang about some things people would rather have put away in a dark closet. Seems to me that these guys are doing something right.

Cake is such a quality band. I admit that they take some getting used to. But I dare you to try to kill one of their CDs. You can't. The bass, the guitar, the horn, the lyrics, the harmonizing, his voice...there is so much complexity in their music. They are just amazing artists.
Probably my FAVORITE Cake tune! All y\'all who don\'t like this tune...go and listen to your tired middle-of-the-road CRAP.
Stunned! that people don\'t like this song. I think its tremendous.
I could listen to this song every day. Cake rules.
Very cool tune..
Someday I think we\'re gonna look back and really wonder why this group was so popular. They do have a couple of cool songs (Long Jacket is one), but this song is overly-long, too cutesy and just doesn\'t have a hook worth listening too. If a song is THIS long, there should be some kind of pay-off. I just don\'t think there is much HERE.
Does anyone watch \"Mission Hill\" on Cartoon Network? This is the theme music!!! I love ALL Cake songs! More Cake! Thanks!
Why are you playing so many mediocre Cake songs when there are so many great ones to chose from?
Please stop playing this out of tune, boring, stupid song.
It\'s ok, but overly long. I like Cake for their hooks not jam sessions

You have to give these guys a chance-- it's a aquired taste. This song is also not my favorite. How about Cool Blue Reason, Commissioning A Symphony in C, Short Skirt Long Jacket, Nugget.
this really starts to drag....
My thoughts exactly about most of the \"yuppie\" population....
Great CD, Great Band!
