summer dies here and so could I somewhere underneath
where the ground is made of stars and everything unclean
your opaline is everything I see
your opaline brings me to my knees

summer dies here and so could I somewhere underneath
so much like the ones hidden on my skin and somewhere in between
this opaline is everything I see
your opaline brings me to my knees

without you I am nothing
without you I can't believe
this gilded place has everything
but this comfort is not what it seems
it is not what it seems
in between is everything I need

your opaline is everything I see
this opaline brings me to my knees
your opaline brings me to my knees

Yet another of my “if it wasn’t for RP…” posts.  My life is richer for the musical gifts I have received from RP.  Thanks BillG et al.
Good tune!
Thanks RP.
Oh come on y'all...I am not anywhere near a fan of this band...but this song is pretty good.
I really like this song (Chorus and verses are 8s) but then it gets to the bridge which seriously grates on me and takes the whole thing down to a 6
Thanks RP. 💙
Bumping from 9 to a 10. Would never have heard this without RP. THE best radio mix bar none. Thank you Bill and Rebecca.
While I still find myself counting blue cars, I don't listen to these guys as much as I should. Great stuff, slightly below the radar.

I heard this album for the first time when I was vacationing in San Diego. It was a pleasant surprise because it wasn't getting any airplay in Canada. It's definitely one of my top five albums of last year. Check out the song "Every Little Thing".

Loved this album when you posted 15 years ago (wow! has it been that long?) and still do today.  Every Little Thing is great. I'm partial to Nashville Skyline, myself.
The singer has a Chris Cornell vibe and so I look forward to hearing more from this outfit.
Not heard of these before. Like it, a lot. Will be checking out some of the rest of their catalogue.
This song has always really resonated with me. I can see why some don't like it, but... I do. A lot. Thanks Bill.

The "dumpers" are over-represented.  Don't let them get you down.

Good music selections this evening.

Great for "Riding the Radio"... But I've nowhere to go. Probably best as I might not find my way home.

Thanks for the nice music...

Love this song! It's so melodic, always pulls me to the screen to see who's playing {#Music}

Yeah, because rating something a 4 (acceptable) would be the end of civil society as we know it.
Good song from an even greater album; a top 10 album from my many 1000's.
Love the verses of this song but I cannot stand that bridge.

Love this! Good to hear Dishwalla again. I agree with a comment below, let's hear more. They have some great stuff that is not "Counting Blue Cars"...

Counting Blue Cars is a fantastic song - this song however, which I've never heard, would need to grow on me.

This song is really hitting me. 10.
There are scads of influences in this song. Very eclectic, very RP. I love the Porcupine Tree-style drumming in the middle. 8 from the spaced Nottingham jury.
Never heard of them but...Interesting!{#Music}
Occasionally appears to have a strain of Beatles melody in there ("We were talking... about the space between us all...")
I have this on DVD Audio Hi Res 5.1 Surround disc. Sound quality is very good and the use of surround really opens up all the soungs on this. A very enjoyable recording

Hahahaha!  I am totally with you on that!  I love love LOVE this song — thank you RP for introducing me to it, it's become one of my all-time favorites here.  (cannot stand "Counting Blue Cars") — and yeah, the cover art for this leaves something to be desired........a little "Children of the Corn", no?  creepy  EDIT:  actually I meant "Village of The Damned"

Always a pleasure to hear something off this album.  Just a great mixture.  That, and I'm a little bit sentimental for Dishwalla, from my early high school days.

Still an 8, simply because it put the disc on my "to-buy" list.

Dear Pinem, I submit, good music is good music no matter how old you are!

Nice juxtaposition of instruments and beat—would have preferred that the opening instruments been included throughout.  Haven't been to view the lyrics, so I stand to get educated.
Opaline IMO ranks as one of the finest albums of all time, and this from a sexagenarian.

I think you misunderstood my post, dude. I was making fun of the attitudes on RP that Porcupine Tree is wonderful and untouchable and that any band on Top 40 radio is automatically awful. I think those attitudes are silly. That was my point.
I saw these guys in concert a while back because they opened for another band I paid to see, and I ended up enjoying them more than the headliner. Very underrated band!!

The only thing hateful are your words and attitude. Dishwalla have been around about as long as Radiohead, put out far less music than either of these two bands. I don't think their as well known as Radiohead/Coldplay; whether they are better or not is matter of personal opinion. I bought their first album, Pet Your Friends, when it was released. They had a very unique sound back then (early 90s), I think it has matured nicely over the years. Give it a 7 for now.
I remember these guys I also got their first album, and remember something about blue cars I think. I chalked them up to being a one hit wonder (lay off me I was 10), but it looks like I might have to dig it up and give it another listen.
Gee now I'm confused. I thought I was defending Dishwalla. I heard quite a bit of similarity between the vocals and Thom Yorke, still do - but the ratings are still hanging in there 2 points below any Radiohead dredge. horstman wrote:

Your Ovaltine??? Really, this song is ok, but they have better.
Wow, flashback to the 90s, hearing Dishwalla on RP. I had no idea they'd released more than one album.
I like the chorus on this song...
I'll rate the cover instead: 8.
I had this rated as a 7.... but then that gross interlude happened in the middle and now it's only a 5. Way to mess up a good song, guys.
Dish watta?
This tries so hard to sound cool that it's painful to listen to. Utterly bleh.
such a cool tune. surprised at the variety of responses and low rating.
Nope, sorry, can't look at that group's name without hearing Eddie Izzard in my head talking about Engelbert Humperdinck: "What shall we call our son so he does not get the shit kicked out of him at school?" "We shall call him Engelbert!" "Good, that'll work!" No, his name was Gerry Dorsey, and he released songs as Gerry Dorsey, songs such as ( mumbles ) which didn't work ‘cause nobody could hear what he was saying. And then his managers, obviously, said, "We're going to change your name, Gerry! It's the name that's the problem." And his name changed from Gerry Dorsey to Engelbert Humperdinck. I mean, I just wanted to be in the room when they were working that one through. "Zingelbert Bembledack! Yingybert Dambleban! Zangelbert Bingledack! Wingelbert Humptyback! Slut Bunwalla!" "What?!" "All right, Kringelbert Fishtybuns! Steviebuns Bottrittrundle..." "No, Gerry Dorsey, I like Gerry Dorsey!" "No, we can't do it... Who we got? Zingelbert Bembledack, Tringelbert Wangledack, Slut Bunwalla, Klingybun Fistelvase, Dindlebert Zindledack, Gerry Dorsey, Engelbert Humptyback, Zengelbert Bingledack, Engelbert Humperdinck, Vingelbert Wingledanck…" "No, no, go back one. Go back one. "Engelbert Humperdinck." That's it."
this song almost got heavy, for a second there. That'd be an RP first!

I have to agree. Music is below avarage, and the voice sucks.
I'm in Heaven now..was just wishing I had this CD with me at work. I got to see Dishwalla the day this came out. Would also like to hear Angels or Devils.
I fell in love with this song on RP several years ago...bought the album immediately...still love it...Thanks, Bill! P.S. Anything with Tabla drums is good for me!
This suddenly became very cool.

Wow, such varied reviews for this song...the entire album is fantastic really, not sure why ppl think it's crap, oh well, that's why RP is eclectic, something for everyone, and sometimes something that's not for some people. Still, if you like it, check out the rest of the album of the same name.

I think this is the best song this band does... but I think as all good things go, it last too long. When it fades out to the heavier jam they should have continued down that road instead of rehashing the chorus again... it would have been perfect then. ...and for the first song on the album... it does not really set the mood for the album...
dishwasher? no thanks.
Hmm.... first time I\'ve heard this song... ... it did hit me as a bit Soundgarden-ish... but it\'s not bad.... then again its not great either
Isn\'t it time this one fell off the frequent-play list?
Dishwalla also has cover songs on the Depeche Mode tribute album "For the Masses" which is great (I believe it's "Policy of Truth") and I think they do a cover on the "Schoolhouse Rock Rocks" album (I don't remember which tune). Each time I hear a song by them, I'm pleasantly surprised by there musical abilities.
