In the summertime when the weather is high
You can stretch right up and touch the sky
When the weather's fine
You got women, you got women on your mind
Have a drink, have a drive
Go out and see what you can find

If her daddy's rich, take her out for a meal
If her daddy's poor, just do what you feel
Speed along the lane
Do a turn or return the twenty-five
When the sun goes down
You can make it, make it good and really fine

We're not bad people, we're not dirty, we're not mean
We love everybody, but we do as we please
When the weather's fine
We go fishing or go swimming in the sea
We're always happy
Life's for living, yeah, that's our philosophy

Sing along with us, dee-dee dee-dee dee
Da doo da-da da, yeah, we're hap-pap-py
Da da da, dee da doo dee da doo da doo da
Da doo da-da da, dee da da dee da da

When the winter's here, yeah, it's party time
Bring your bottle, wear your bright clothes 'cause it will soon be summertime
And we'll sing again
We'll go driving or maybe we'll settle down
If she's rich, if she's nice
Bring your friends and we'll all go into town

In the summertime when the weather is high
You can stretch right up and touch the sky
When the weather's fine
You got women, you got women on your mind
Have a drink, have a drive
Go out and see what you can find

If her daddy's rich, take her out for a meal

"Mungojerrie and Rumpelteazer were a very notorious couple of cats.
As knockabout clown, quick-change comedians, tight-rope walkers and acrobats..."
Now that guy (on the cover) has some chops!

I Agree!  Thanx RP!
Did Mungo wear a helmet, when he was at the barber's? Hairstyles of the 70s are real cool stuff.
The second verse is creepy as frack, and more than a bit misogynistic.

This is a song of my childhood.  LOL  I think the lyrics are a bit dated but it has a great happy feel....

Hey, we got gypped!  There's supposed to be the sound of a motorcycle taking off at the end of the song but it was cut off.  I guess Bill realized how much this song sucks and figured it was time to move on.

I understand how difficult it is to manipulate a library of songs with thousands of entries, the criteria and the strategy of the radio station (that an overall assessment is fantastic!), but would not be too much to ask that from time to time, be remembered that some songs belong to the imaginary of all or nearly all, and which marked an epoch. For example the song "In The Summertime" (1970). Because we are in summer. Because bring me good memories. I personally always pleased to hear this song a few times each year that passes. Because this song has withstood the ravages of time. And need not be a masterpiece...

"  "
In the Summertime" remains their most successful and most instantly recognisable song. Their name was inspired by the poem Mungojerrie and Rumpelteazer, from T. S. Eliot's Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats. According to Joseph Murrell's The Book of Golden Discs (1978), 'Mungomania' was possibly the most startling and unpredicted pop phenomenon to hit Britain since The Beatles ", in wiki

Also is appropriate here to say that in recent times, the radio station has used a criterion of excessive repetition of recent songs for 2010, 2009, which unfortunately are not, definitely, the best years of the last five decades of musical creation. Do not know if that's good. Or is it a momentary lack of inspiration / imagination.

This song has always grossed me out. Now that I have seen 'Jerry' as well, I feel doubly justified.
It's late in the year for this one, but what a corker! Politically correct lyrics abound: "...have a drink, have a drive go out and see what you can find..." "...if her daddy's rich take her out for a meal, if her daddy's poor just do what you feel..."

Look what's so wrong with mixing drinking and driving? And it's true - if you're on a date, you treat a rich girl differently to a poor girl.
Wishful thinking on this cold NorCal day.{#Umbrella}
BEAUTIFUL SONG BY ARTURO FOR ITALY
Looks like Achilles' helmet in Troy. Or maybe an adaptation thereof suitable for the Buckingham Palace guard.

You see the album cover? DEFINITELY Bizarro World.

Dig the tune though.

OMG!  I thought I had fallen asleep and been transported back to 1971!  Reminds me of school.  RP never fails to amaze....!

I friggin LOVE this tune.

Not exactly acid music though ... I bet it was kinda jarring ...

Although this is a happy song from days past....HOW CAN YOU follow Summer's Cauldron with this?

this song played on nearly all of my teenage milestones - from driving for the first time on the highway to me driving my date to the prom with my corny ass tuxedo. no matter how cliche, cheesy, dumb, stupid, old you people think this song is - Mungo Jerry has a very dear place in the cockles of my heart.
My Grandmother thought this was the greatest when it first came out (born in 1889).
Hi Kenny Brick!
They are still going. (click here) Warning: don't open this link if you are offended by seriously big hair.
Aargh! It was a fun song back in the 70s when it was released, but it's dated badly, has been seriously over-played, and is pretty damn irritating these days. It's so clichéd - it's used to symbolise summertime in the same way as Slade's Merry Krissmass is used to symbolise Xmas. I couldn't hit the mute button fast enough :(

My brothers and I (at elementary school age) 1st heard this song while riding in the back of the family station wagon. I remember how we were dancing and singing along... Ch-ch-ch - ah! "> I recently put it on a cd and shared it with the whole family.

I suppose I'd get sick of it too if I had to hear it daily, but it brings back a flood of memories of the summer after high school, which are pleasant nostalgie for this cat.

My favourite summertime tune when I was in my last year of high school. Ooops! Does that give me away as being 53?

I had a similar experience. Luckily this song was not on the tape, but there are a number of good songs that I can just never ever ever listen to again for the same reason. Musically numb people should not be allowed to run stores.
I can empathize. Had the same issue in the restaurant business before satellite radio. Mungo Jerry was played a lot in the summer, but at least it was seasonal. I still can't listen to the following after hearing them each day at work: * Beatles - Lady Madonna * S&G's - 50 Ways to Leave Your Lover ListeningClose wrote:

I love this song...it's a fun, lighthearted song...sometimes you just need that.
If this song doesn't make you giggle, then you have no silly gene.
If they're singing de da da da de da....they have to be happy about something!
I think I heard Trekkie on the velcro.
Interestingly, this song came up on my "summertime" CD on a long car trip recently. Two of my "very musically sophisticated" (or so they believe) teen-aged occupants (age 14 and 15) found themselves laughing and getting into this song. They requested a replay, and wondered if it was available to download to their iPODs. It left me smiling and thinking that some things are timeless, like summer fun and the songs that go with.
Was Mungo Jerry a one hit wonder?
The first time I heard this song I was at a swim meet. I was asking everyone who it was. no one knew! but i so loved it! :happy tune:

Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer were characters in one of the poems from T.S. Elliot's "Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats" (The book Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Cats" is based on).

Great summertime memories. My favorite drinking and driving song.
I know that it is not quite summer yet, but a warm, hot and sunny day is made complete whenever I hear this song.
Needs more bananas
I LOVE this song! It's a perfect, crusin' around, summer song and ALWAYS brightens things up. When I was in junior high, I actually saw Mungo Jerry on Dick Clark's American Bandstand when they premiered this song. Ain't that wild? Everything was faked and lip-synched, so the lead singer used a jug to imitate the sound of the car that occurs about 2/3 of the way through.

When the screaming started I FLEW out of his room and down the stairs three at a pop, convinced the record had somehow come to life. I didn't go in my brother's room for a long time after that...(;
always a cheery, fun song - perfect for a Florida afternoon!
I love this song! Always makes me smile... if only it were sunny here. No such luck however. At least the song can make me pretend like it's nice outside.
Maybe someone slipped ME some acid at some unremembered moment, but the lead singer always sounded like an earlier-day Steve Tyler(of Aerosmith) to me. Odd.
Can\'t hear this without incredibly detailed flashbacks to Top of the Pops. BTW, as a Brit in California who has lots track of some important cultural stuff... did Top of the Pops ever die? I lost interest after Pams People.

One of my first 45\'s. Spent hours as a kid listening to this until it was totally wore out. Thanks RP!
Hate the lyrics, but what a classic! That beat, the wavery vocals and the catchy hook are so great. I think this song qualifies for the only jug band hit ever, but it gets my vote for laid back, hot weather groovin\'.
