RP should be proud to work in a few Coldplay songs here and there.
I think the writing is brilliant. The vocal effects are outstanding.
I happen to have pleasant associations centered around the Fraser canyon and the Thompson River valley so that might influence my judgment.
This ain't Abba, King Crimson or John Prine. Holds up well all the same.

I don't get it... there seems to be a fad to hate on Coldplay. Their music is perfectly fine; there's nothing wrong with it. Otherwise, Bill wouldn't play it.

This is back when I really like Coldplay. Fine album all around in my opinion. But after this.....ugh.
Worst part is when they jump the shark: they re-recorded "Lost" from Viva la Vida with Jay-Z, and the song was the same other than annoying Jay-z rapping randomly in the background. That proves that they lost all artistic integrity and were just in it to promote the album to an audience outside of their indie roots.

I mostly agree with this and the previous poster, except that I found Viva La Vida to be a little more inspiring, and giving hints of what they could be if the let it rip a little more.
Also, they put on a good live show, coming off as a lot more honest and genuine and caring about their fans in person than they do in the studio.

I can understand and agree with some of what you're saying here, fredriley from Nottingham, except for Viva la Vida, which works ever-so-well as a concept album and contains one of the most excellent intros (Life in Technicolor) and songs about living multiple lives (Viva la Vida). In my humble opinion, nearly every song on that album is top-notch.
(I do like quite a few other Coldplay songs, although nothing from Mylo Xyloto.)

This band sounds great on my little girl's old Karaoke machine that removes the vocals. I sing over it then.

For me Coldplay are yet to be more than U2 without the 'gravitas' and Radiohead without the sense of adventure. They sound like the product of a major label thinktank who saw a market for a rock band that did 'serious' 'emotionally engaged' rock, and Coldplay were the outcome.

I like Coldplay, but every song on this album is the same five chords pounded over and over again for three minutes. Very repetitive. Slowly breaking through the daylight.

I LOVE this song. The first time I heard it was on the soundtrack of an amateur surf video a guy had shot of pro surfer Kelly Slater. The CD had just been released so I had no idea who it was. If you play this song while driving down the coast at sunrise - it's a transcendent experience. :D
It also sounds great driving through the Canadian Rockies, which was the first time I heard it, and what I think of every time I play it. This is why I gladly break out my wallet for RP.

Coldplay is OK by me
At their recent stadium show, I thought I'd scored by getting 4th row tickets. Well due to the configuration of the stage, 4th row ended up being FRONT ROW, and we were right in the center! Total score. I felt bad for all the people in row 1 who had paid $500 per ticket but who were shunted way over to the side.
"Daylight" is my favourite all-time CP song. Unfortunately, they did not play it when I saw them. The show was largely lacklustre. Apparently they were all suffering from food poisoning.

I will admit, that upon hearing this again, this song actually isn't that bad. I'll upgrade my rating a few spots. I think most of their stuff sounds whiney (they even make the MUSIC seem whiney), but this song ... this one's growing on me. Are there others like this on the album I should give a chance to?
