Makes me feel like i'm on vacation!
I don't watch much American Idol, though sometimes one of the early auditions catch my ear, as was the case for the eventual winner of the 2023 season, the Hawaiian Iam Tongi, who is a bit like Bruddah Iz in his performances and appearance.  I'm stoked he won, and hope the world for him, and maybe one day he'll have a track on RP and I can post this comment on that song where it's more appropriate.  Until then....Long Live RP and the beautiful singers from the islands of Hawaii!!
This guy is such a treat to listen too
The sound of Hawaii, man.. wow, good stuff.
I recommend listening to his earlier stuff with the Makaha Sons of Niʻihau.

The windmill just stands still
No water comes swirling up

You are a constant reflection of me
My companion, always conversing with me

Beloved indeed is Môlîlele

@LaurieinTuscon    Whew .... whether this is manufactured tongue-in-cheek or an actual "translation" -- best laugh I've had today!!   Thx -- Radiotoe

Janne- I had only seen "hula" in the Polynesian Cultural Center, blahblah. Good stuff but in, like, hula - in a museum? No bueno. Then I went to my Philippine friend's daughter's wedding and the young gals danced the hula for a traditional wedding blessing. Holy sh*t!! You could have cut the sexual tension in the air with a CHAINSAW!  The menfolk, including me, were literally bewitched- checked out of the Consciousness Hotel you might say.  It was sooooo intense, mesmerizing, powerful. It was the next year I went to Hawai'i  for my fiend's wedding and heard Isreael on the radio. Wow, that changed my little whitetoast life, I gotta tell 'ya. Look up the German word anschauung. No word for it in English.
Oh, what fun! To hear something like this tossed into the mix brought a smile to my face - Sometimes joyousness is exactly what we need, and this song was a great little escape - thank you :-)
This is why I listen to Radio Paradise! Thank you William.

Note to flyboy—so it's not BS, and I'll accept your take back on the facts. I was unaware that ministers were calling for Bush's death from the pulpit as well. No matter what I thought of his policies and his presidency, I find any such notion repugnant and morally abhorrent. Fair enough?

Israel was featured on NPR's Top 50 Voices of All Time. Apparently, the album he did with the "Over the Rainbow" is still the top selling record of Hawaiian music. He had a beautiful talent.

Many Native American tribes in the southwest have the same obesity problem.  It's not so much the food that contributed to the problem but the consistent supply.  As I've heard it, many humans that lived in a place where food was not in constant supply developed a feast and famine diet.  Their bodies adjusted to this by absorbing food in the feast times by building up fat reserves to then consume in the times of famine.  With the modern day availability of food their bodies just continue to hold fat for use later that is not needed.

That being said there are a lot of physically fit Native Americans who don't suffer from an obesity problem.  So I don't know.

I think genetically the cards can be stacked either for or against you.  Being blessed to come from a family with a slender build, I have great respect for the people who have overcome obesity.  It's not something that I want to see if my will is strong enough to conquer.

What scares me is the comments made by conservative talk show hosts that make it seem that Obama is endangering the constitution and America...with the implicit message that such grave peril calls for drastic action. I've heard Walton & Johnson going off, seeming to intentionally get people really upset. This is Texas. There are guns everywhere. Most elementary schools have a shooting range.
