I had a similar experience with "Life of Bryan." Arrived at a theater with lots of angry Christians. The press showed up. There was literally no one in the line for "The Life of Bryan." So the press shot the line to "Bambi." Journalistic integrity.

I never knew Cynaera but I can tell how she is remembered on the RP comment board that I would have loved her, too.

This is strange, a year later and another Peter Gabriel song following a Black Rebel Motorcycle Club song. A coincidence or have the machines taken over?
I first heard this years ago when BBC Radio-3 aired "Late Junction" hosted by Verity Sharpe. It opened my ears to the endless possibilities available in music.🐨
I think like The Catherine Wheel for David Byrne, this may well be Gabriel's Opus work. And I do not say that lightly whatsoever!
Too cheesy to rate this song as "Godlike" given the movie?
Awe inspiring.
Reminds me of "Black-hawk Down" a great film.
Superb tune. Great atmospheric haze in the sonic back drop. Don't need Gabriel's voice when the music is this good.

Great music.  Only also some of the greatest movie music ever.
Wonderful music!!!!
Love it!
Some of Peter Gabriels best music ever is on this album!
When I listen it online, there is also a voice of a woman. but not om the album. another version?

YES.
Real World (PG's label) also released a compilation of the source music that he used to compose the score for the movie. It's fantastic as well.
I like Peter Gabriel but this receives only 4 from me
Please check also for Jamshied Sharifi "A Prayer For The Soul Of Layla" from 1997- amazing
Brilliant. Peter Gabriel and Christ. A most excellent combination.
One of the best Peter Gabriel albums. Confirms his genius.
One of the greatest works of ambient music...and from such an amazing Scorsese film as well
Actually listened to this entire soundtrack straight through over the weekend - Phenomenal!
This album, with nearly no vocals, is brilliant.

A PG track I can actually enjoy. Perhaps because he's not singing on it.

When I left to go for a ride Mich Gerber was playing and as I walked back  in the door, it initially sounded like the same track was still playing.
Then, all became clear. Nope 'twas Pete.   All good.

Huh, that's weird... I heard he was crucified.

One of Gabriel's Opus works for sure, not unlike Byrne's "The Catherine Wheel" soundtrack.

If you want something that I believe actually has cuts that were used in "Gladiator," try the albumDuality by Lisa Gerrard And Pieter Bourke (Apr 13, 1998), available on our favorite Amazon.
It's another remarkable album, which might inspire you to try some Dead Can Dance if you haven't yet sampled their stuff.
The correct title is "The Feeling Begins".
When I uploaded this, a long time ago in a galaxy far far away, the "The" was still there. I promise.

I guess this is a new upload.

I agree and although I got to this work rather late (just in the last few years) I find that I can appreciate it most "out of context" instead of as a whole work despite listening to it numerous times.

The man is a musical God!

thanks RP!

Appropriate.  Mood-setting.

I've spent the last few days loading my Kindle with works by authors like Mundy--H. Rider Haggard, Kipling, Sax Rohmer, etc. If you can't watch a new Indiana Jones flick, reading the original works are pretty good. Did you ever watch "King Solomon's Mines" with Richard Chamberlain and Sharon Stone? I got through 10 minutes and had to stop--amazingly bad.

Clearly some studio (Oh, Cannon...shock) was trying to jump on the Indiana Jones bandwagon--heck they even got Jon Rhys-Davies to show up for it in between Indiana Jones movies. James Earl Jones (as Umslopogaas!) was in for the "Quatermain" sequel but they couldn't swing it even with Haggard's story.

And yes, this album transcends "Last Temptation of Christ." One of my all-time favorites.

Great to hear today, the day we learn that Peter Gabriel will be in the Rock and Roll hall of fame.
Absolute bliss
One of the best soundtracks ever. So sacred (to me) that I will not watch the film.
9->10 - chills every time.
Fantastic. Nothing less, nothing more.
Excellent Armenian duduk. Love Armenian Folk Melodies!

Marzz,

Some time back I sent a message to Cynaera after reading one of her many comments here on RP and I found that we shared a love of many of the same artists.  From her profile I found we were born on the same date in 1956.  I felt a special connection with her, even though I'd never seen a picture of her or heard her voice.  I was saddened when I read about her passing several months ago.  Rest in peace, Cynaera.

Haven't read the tome, but the title alone sounds perfect for this music. Cool! {#Group-hug}
I am loving this!
If this song is not yet on the Game Of Thrones soundtrack is should be!
Aaarrgh! How come I never hear this song when I'm putting the moves on my lady or when I'm oiling my pecs before a round of bloodsport? Yet again Gabriel's sultry rhythms work their magic as I sit surrounded by old wincing men in the eurlogist's waiting room.

Basically, it's great story, well told, with meticulous attention to all the intricacies of the cinematographer's craft, including breathtaking visuals and audio.

Makes me think. Because, all these qualities are precisely the ones I missed. I even liked Gibsons hardcore catholic approach better.

Maybe it got me in the wrong mood when I watched it, and I should give it another opportunity..... {#Think} ?

Always part of my "mixed tapes", this one. Exquisite blend of styles and rythms, excellent driving song. Shame the soundtrack was not nominated to an Academy Award. Not that Gabriel would care about that. WOMAD at its best.
Would be great if Bill would follow it up with Dead can Dance's "Rakim."
This is primal and gets me right in the guts. I'm seeing a roaring fire on the plains and animal-skinned painted people dancing around it whilst I sit in the ring with the other elders smoking some serious herbs. This is pagan. 8 from the atavistic Nottingham jury.
