The soundtrack is perhaps Gabriel's Opus work, saying A LOT I know.

Aside from the Jesus–Mary Magdalene relationship, I think some religious leaders were upset that Jesus was portrayed as being full of doubt and self pity about his role as the son of God.
AS many have said, excellent album
Great movie
This was our soundtrack the year we bought our farm

Good year
Ancient history to some of you
Just yesterday to us
Thanks RP for bringing it all back home
If you are so inclined, check out this vignette I whipped up using this mesmerizing Peter Gabriel song:
Martin Luther King Jr. - Spiritual Death
May be the most exquisite soundtrack album ever recorded!
this is a phenomenal album.  I got this when I was in high school, and was starting to experiment with meditation/biofeedback and lucid dreaming type stuff.  hearing anything off this CD just takes me back immediately to a calmer state of mind.....

I appreciate or respect the intentions of the Church to hold true to their conception of and passion for Jesus.  But...
before they go condemning others for an alternative -- and imho an entirely legitimate and equally inspiring interpretation of the origins of the gospels and works of  a human life of inarguably vast and eternal consequence -- they really ought to acknowledge the Church's own seedy, unseemly, global immersion in child and sexual abuse.
It's about as far from the preachings teachings of Jesus as it's possible to get.  Still, they have clung to their exclusive, exclusionary, almost elitist grasp of Jesus and the Bible as if they OWN it. So, OK, what about ruining young boys and men, excluding women, the Apocrypha and how they tolerated, or not, other views of Jesus  over 1,000, 1,200 years or "Christian" murder and mayhem?  Own up up to the toxic actions, then we can talk about how to move forward. Otherwise, fuck off.
Great segue from Brahms' Hungarian Dance to this Peter Gabriel instrumental. I hear similar elements in the background. Nice!

I would have liked the segue more had it played more smoothly on my phone. The songs overlapped by a good five seconds and made a burned hash of the transition.
Tell me - why is the most enchanting of all Gabriel Albums the one on which he doesn't sing...!?
Bill just did it again - perhaps he's going for a "sacred and profane" theme?!

Another great album is a compilation of the recordings of some of the musical inspirations that Gabriel used to come up with Passion- "Passion Sources" also released on Real World Records ... https://realworldrecords.com/release/4/passion-sources/
IMHO.  Gabriel can do no wrong. A genius. I remember when the movie came out and we had to fight our way through the protesters  the theater. Open minds people.

It's kind of strange, but often I prefer Peter Gabriel instrumentals to Peter Gabriel singing. This is utterly brilliant, always has been from day one.

I just watched The last temptation of Christ again. In the brief and subtle love scene with Jesus and Mary Magdelene, he doesn't shout "Oh God" or anything else; he remains quiet as she says, in a breathy voice, "We can have a child... we can have a child." This is apppropriate within the overall development of the plot. This film is a work of art, based on a novel, with thought-provoking plot twists, unlike the Hollywood interpretations of the Gospels that run on TV for the Easter holidays, which tend to follow religious doctrine and Sunday school lessons more closely, provoking far less controversy.

To be included in a desert island atoll playlist.
Happy Easter.
The score as a whole is a 9, a wondrous and evocative blend of styles and moods.
Like the entire album (including the cover art), absolutely crushingly devastating in all its eerie mystery — but yet after hearing and contemplating it, it is as if life cannot be truly lived or understood properly without tapping into it at least once in a while; he was obviously channeling something, and, I believe, it showed admirably.  Well done, all involved! and thanks to RP for playing it!

Get the album, Peter Gabriel, Passion Sources.  This is Gabriel exploring the mesmer, the drone, the power of music to force the mind into transcendent states.  This is the Dervish, spinning and spinning and spinning, reaching for God.

What was controversial about the movie? I'd not heard of it before now. This is a good, elemental-feeling instrumental which might grow on me. An initial 6 from the Nottingham jury which has, through RP, learnt to disassociate Peter Gabriel from the pompous pretentious excrescence on the body musical that was Genesis. On his own he produces some really good stuff, and has my eternal gratitude for helping to bring about the Afro Celt Sound System.

Hi, Fred. Some people get hung up about any story that involves mentioning Jesus and sex in the same breath, I guess because of the vestiges of medieval dogma still embedded in the Western collective psyche. The film is called The Last Temptation of Christ, released in 1988 and directed by Martin Scorsese. The DVD currently on the market has some special features about Peter Gabriel's soundtrack. I have the audio CD and the film on DVD, and I recommend the latter over the former, since you get to enjoy the images and the story at the same time you hear the music. I play the CD when I need to use my eyes and part of my mind for some sort of productive activity. In fact, it's on my desk now, waiting its turn, after Isabelle Villey's La guitarra en el México Barroco and Miles Davis vs. Thelonious Monk (when work gets intense Radio Paradise can be distracting, so it's good to have some instrumentals lined up).
More Please!
Censored film, btw
This soundtrack is now on my "to puchase" list!    Thanks RP!
If you haven't, you must listen to the soundtrack in its entirety.
Love the way this starts...

"Passion" is Peter Gabriel's best (so far) and IMO that is saying a LOT as many of his mid to late albums are excellent.

As a newcomer to RP, it is so great to hear this in the mix. I was in high school when this came out and randomly picked up the CD at music store. It was my initiation to 'world' music. I'm glad to say I'm not listening to most of the stuff I was at 18 but this one I def. am! Also my favorite thing of PG's.
