Does Satan wear a suit and tie
Or does he work at the Dairy Queen
Does he listen to rock and roll
Does he feed the mean
Singing Hallelujah

What about Jesus
Didn't he do it too?
Hang out with prostitutes
And have a drink or two.
Power of example
My mama said it and I heard
She says one ounce of action
Beats a ton of words.

Singing Hallelujah.
Mama said there would be angels
Mama said there would be sun

Is the devil in Elvis to go where no white man went
Or hiding in Hugh Hefner's body or maybe even Larry Flynt.
Say, hows about the President shielding all them stones
Man if I could find a shield like that I'd run around naked
In my glass home.

Sippin Hallelujah
I think my angel's gone to Vegas
Sippin Hallelujah
Holding aces in her hand. Hallelujah
As she's singing rock of ages. Hallelujah
On the table at the Sands. Hallelujah

Does Satan wear a suit and tie or
Does he work at the Dairy Queen.
Does he listen to rock and roll
Does he feed the mean
Streak in all of us.
All us saints here on earth
Hypnotized and over-advertised
Til we're numb at birth

Singing Hallelujah
And my angel's turning pages
Singing Hallelujah
And she just don't understand. Hallelujah
That the devil's hot on her trail. Hallelujah
On the road to broken promised land. Hallelujah
On the TV and the radio. Hallelujah
Good and evil look the same to you

Please don't ever play this song again!! It is trite and terrible.

Couldn't have said it better myself. This one had me reach (or actually "wretch") for the mute button.
Sorry, but this isn't the Martin Sexton I remember.  I used to go see him when he would come through town in the mid 90s and he would play with just his guitar.  Dude can really play the hell out of an acoustic guitar, and he usually doesn't really need the mic in a small venue he sings so damn loud.  But I must admit, i don't much care for this song.  I for one would like to hear some older stuff.
The local NP radio station here in western NC has a version of this song that he recorded at their studio.  It was just Martin and his guitar.  This song and Martin's voice are absolutely gorgeous without all that production.  If you can get your hands on WNCW's "Crowd Around the Mike, Vol 8", I highly recommend listening to the version there!

This has to be the most awful thing I have heard on RP

Then why is the average rating 5.6?

Play more Martin Sexton!!!

No kidding!
I'm "digging" this...I'd like to catch him live.  Nice voice....
Play more Martin Sexton!!!
When I saw the title of this come up I thought, "Oh no! not another version!" Guess not... but then repeating that word over and over is enough for rejection!!

As of 9 October 2008 there are two MS tracks at RP, neither of which have ever been aired.

An upload of the excellent "The Way I Am" was summarily rejected without even making it to the LRC.

I'm guessing he turned RP down for a free CD or appearance or hit on Rebecca and got on the grudge list. I'm also guessing if he ever pulls a Ray LaMontagne and becomes a trendy/widespread critical darling, suddenly those rejected tracks will get some attention. "Shelter" got the RP Finger the first time I uploaded it; add a little underground popularity and lo, it's now in rotation.

Don't presume B/R always judge music on "merit"- buzz has a lot to do with it. Not much else to explain the reversal of sentiment towards uploaded music that was rejected.

Let me guess, it was YOUR submission which didn't make the grade?  Remember, Life is a disappointment, one right after the other until your very own Song is accepted by that Heavenly Radio Station.

I heard those first lines and had to get up and comment.
When I was 14 I worked at a Dairy Queen in the next town over and I thought my boss, the owner, was Satan!
If he wasn't Satan, he was simply the biggest asshole in the world.

He most likely WAS Satan (Old Leatherwings; Mister Scratch; The Dark One; Doctor Evil; etc.)  Almost all Assholes of my momentary acquaintance have had a bit of the Old Brimstone about them.

If you've never seen Martin live, you've never seen one of the most talented living performers. His records don't quite capture his talent, but he's amazing. Love that you're playing this song!
Oh My This Rocks. and the lyrics are intriquing, too.

Love this song! Hallelujah - I be dancin'! {#Dancingbanana}
