a rare and blistering sun shines down
on grace cathedral park
there with you i fear the time
when air gets dark
you know i don't spend days like this
caught up in lost times of youth that i miss

can almost hear rollercoasters
see sailboats in the sea
hear noise and screaming
weaving in and out of
happy music box sounds

but here on the ground
we're so far away from that
time turned older now

we walked down the hill
i feel the coming on
of the fading sun
and i know for sure
that you'll never be the one
it's the forbidden moment that we live
that fires our sad escape
and holds passion more that words can say

tell me why are you like this
are you the same with anyone?
save me from my sickness and tell me
why do you treat me like?
tell me why are you like this
are you the same with anyone?
save me from my sickness and tell me
why are you like this??

If you have not listened to Mark Kozelek's work in the past (RHP, Sun Kil Moon, solo, etc..) you are really missing out. I've listened to him for about 15 years and I'm always amazed at his sustained creativity.

In the same période was another great underestimated band from frisco....SWELL
WHY RP dont play them???
this mistake should  be fixed up

Hello I am curious did you ever play withthe band atthe paradise lounge in san fran? in 1990 or so? what is your real name? is it Eddie?

Aw, what a poignant reminder.  I spent many hours at the Paradise Lounge back when it was really fun.  Several bands on multiple stages, each doing something entirely different.  Cool atmosphere, cool bartenders, a really fun billiards room, and a crazy-ass mix of cool patrons from every background imaginable...damn, that place was a great hangout.  One year I returned and the whole format had changed.  What happened?  Did SF really outgrow that place?  Now when I'm in that area, I end up at Slim's wishing the Paradise was still happening.  *sigh*

Never again please. Ugh. Poorly Produced. Poorly Sung. Poorly played. not my cup of tea. To save opposing thinkers the time here are some witty retorts you can have to my message:

Not your cup of tea? Try going to a different teahouse.

Poorly Produced? Try poorly written post.

If you would stop posting and try listening you might like them.

So on and so forth.

I sit here looking at this... taking it in... and I am alternately amused, intrigued, and baffled.  Enough foresight and intelligence to see that others enjoy things you do not, enough pride to want to admit you understand that fact, and yet still driven to post how much you hate it.  These things aren't mutually exclusive, and yet at first glance it sort of appeared they were.  I am actually reminded of a post I made recently where I babbled on for some time, realized it, and then posted it anyway(?!!?).  Ah well, thanks for taking my mind off the boring document I was preparing. I am rating the song an eight, but this rant gets a 9.

One of my favorite bands - and this song doesn't even make the top tier cut for me....Old Ramon and Songs for a Blue Guitar are superb - Ocean Beach - oh, hell....pretty much everything they did! Sun Kil Moon takes things pretty well onward from where they left off with Old Ramon. Will always be severely underrated...and very much a love/hate band, depending upon how people feel about Mark K's voice (I love it, my wife hates it), the characteristic guitar sound, and nice, long songs to curl up to.
Old Ramon is fantastic. You are exactly right about the love/hate thing. My wife hates Mark's voice, but I love it. Turned my friend onto them, and his wife hates Mark's voice as well. Oh well.

I really like the overall sound of this song, particularly the droning effect of the guitars strumming in the background.

Too bad you won't get that chance, sadly they are no more. This album however, is exquisit. If you would open your ears and quit typing for a moment you would hear the talent in the writing, playing and execution of this song/album. Good luck!

I see this date is littered with physicsnongenius comments on several playlist selections. Wherein pn-g berates several people with talent for having none. Too bad his errant criticisms are also physicsnonfunny.

Diggin'!!!!
I'd like to hear something different from them since I didn't particularly care for this track. FYI, while catching up in the forums, I noticed some other ridiculous remarks that user dsmears had made in the past. It turns out "that user no longer exists". So no need to respond, unless there's been a reincarnation.

I'm including this post in mine but not bothering to respond to it. I did, however, want to point out that nineteen people already have. Good on ya. Someone desparately needs to upload "Have You Forgotten," IMHO. From the "Vanilla Sky" soundtrack, and probably an original album? Anyone? Beuller?

This is a chat room (IMHO)
it would be nice to follow this with Grace Cathedral Hill by The Decemberists.

Don't get all bent outta shape... I figured these out on my own. It took some time, but: IMHO = in my humble opinion WTF = what the flapjacks SWM = single white mail SWCM = single woopy chain mail etc. Hope this helps.
This makes me feel like listening to Bob Dylan...Great music..absolutly great!

Relax, please. 8) I'm sure there are much more important things that are worth criticizing. -- Dig this tune. Will have to look into the title refers to the park in San Francisco--izzat where they're from? LATER EDIT: "Kozelek was born and raised in the Midwest, and was addicted to drugs by the age of ten before entering rehab a few years later. Throughout his travails, he clung to music, and formed his first band, God Forbid, while in his teens. After relocating to Atlanta, Georgia, he struck up a friendship with drummer Anthony Koutsos, and formed the first incarnation of Red House Painters. A move to San Francisco followed, where guitarist Gorden Mack and bassist Jerry Vessel rounded out the group's roster." Grace Cathedral; the nearby park is actually called Huntington Park. FWIW. ;)
O MY GOSH...I typed in Red House Painters just for kicks and I cannot believe there are FOUR songs here!!! I've never heard one on RP, but I can dream. -Huge RHP fan
About time! Us RHP fans just know that most of the RP audience will really dig RHP, and this is (IMHO) the best of the older work. Great addition to the library.
I like anything Mark Kozelek sings. I\'m very pleased to hear him here on RP.
I am so excited the RHP is getting some play on RP! They are great!!!
