I can only give it a 6. I like the guitar work, but his voice just doesn't really bring anything new to the song.

I get so annoyed with all the children who thing it is cool to dog something in a web post beause it is different from what they are used to. I agree that this cover is not as good as the original, but I like this one and I always enjoy hearing covers of Crowded House songs because it means that the originals won't be lost in obscurity. Crowded House is and always will be my favorite band.

Neil is one of those guys whose best writing seems to work best for his voice alone. Its not that this isn't a good attempt. It is. But without his voice it lacks (for me) the heart of the song.

I would think that when an original is well-loved, practically any cover suffers in comparison. or maybe the cover has to be sufficiently different. Or just really so good on its own terms that you don't bring the original to mind in every moment.

Great songwriting (and this is a stellar example) can usually survive any arrangement and still sound good. This is probably the exception... this is truly pathetic. A great disservice to a fantastic song.

I thought it was Neil for a half a second, then I got this weird feeling in the pit of my stomach. Too close for comfort, and the CH version is much superior, but the guitar is an interesting variation. I don't know why I bothered to comment, when everyone else has said pretty much the same thing, but I feel oddly compelled. Crowded House is definitely in my top 3 favorite pop bands. They may even be at the top. Let's see... Crowded House XTC Oingo Boingo ...wait a minute...have no good pop bands come out since the 80's?? I must not be awake yet...I need my coffee this morning.

he doesn't sound identical to Neil because Neil's voice truly is one-of-a-kind. that said, this guy has a nice voice and I like the guitar in this version...but the original is the BEST! probably my favorite Crowded House song, and it's not easy to pick just one...

Exactly! I heard this in a cool cultural shop in Old Sacramento and asked to see the cd cover. I recognized the vocals immediately but nothing else. I love Crowded House and this was certainly putting an original twist on a favorite song.

I really like this. Having not heard the original, I now have to go find the original! Would love to know which CH album it's on as I don't have any of them and so far I like everything I've heard from them. My take on covers is that they're ok as long as the band/artist covering is attempting to convey their own interpretation and not just trying to make a buck off of someone else's success. It's usually pretty obvious to me who's doing what. Don't know if anyone recalls Ace of Base's "Cruel Summer" (originally by Bananarama). It sounded EXACTLY like the original with different drums.

Personally, I love to hear an interpretation of a great song by an artist other than the writer. The voice here seems very similar to Neil Finn's. The spanish/classical guitar adds another dimension though. I like it.
