What a fun song.

I said "Sure, man, but, ahh...what's with the outfit?" and he said, "-- Oh... Oh... Well, I'm in this band, this band called Pink Martini, and we're playing at Chautauqua Auditorium, and uhh... we're on a break, and, uhh..." and I just love that that happened...

Thank You for sharing your story. I follow your posts. You sound like tons of fun!

You just have to love CoJo's stories. Substance related or otherwise. Thanks for sharing :)
Spooky - yesterday I was rescuing some miscellaneous music file while sorting out a PC for my local U3A music appreciation group and encountered the name Pink Martini for the first time. Now I know what they sound like...
Slinky.  I was 30 years out in my guess with this little number.

Stands between danzón and (in did) latin jazz. Enjoyable anyway.

Agreed, seen them there a couple of times, a great show every time. Highly recommend.

Thomas Lauderdale is so great! My bestie went to school with him. Says he has always been an outgoing, energetic musician. A local role model here in Portland, OR.

Almost as good as "Combustible Edison".  Yes it's a drink, and a band, and it's divine!  Similar great lounge music.

I don't hear that much other than the minor key and the so-called "Afro-Cuban" rhythm, but anyhow, it's the other way around.  This song (originally titled "No Problem") was written by Duke Jordan (aka Jacques Marray) and recorded by Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers in 1959 or '60, for the original soundtrack to Roger Vadim's "Les Liaisons Dangereuses".

Hotel Clerk: That is not my dog.

And perhaps a better song for the onset of a winter storm, 14" of snow settling over one's brow like a dull ache. It's the promise of sun, light, warmth, a chilled chardonnay at a Trocadero cafe overlooking the Seine.
Living part of the year in Portland, I've been getting a regular dose of Thomas Lauderdale & Co. for decades. I can't shake the impression that they are a pale shade of their source material. Congrats to them for building a sound and growing empire - but if I want modern tiki lounge, gimme Michael Giacchino (or the original Lalo Schifrin stuff)

Playing air piano on the kitchen counter right now.
Likeable but a bit generic, doesn't have anything really new to it - Pop Jazz

Morphing into Don Draper....

shades of "black magic woman."
This one should be paired with Thelonious Monk's Criss-Cross (about three cuts back).

Thrilled to go see Pink Martini this Sunday @ The Keswick Theatre in Glenside, PA.
What a freakin' awesome song!  Perfect for making my gin martini and cooking dinner.  More please!
Dyno mite !!

Off to see this band with tremendous Australian comedian Tim Minchin at Kew Gardens a week from Thursday.  Myself and an Australian friend were convincing a German friend of ours to come see Tim.  She was almost in anyway and then we looked it up and saw it was a pink martini/Tim Minchin gig.  Our friend is a massive Pink Martini fan so that worked out well for all.  Fingers crossed for a fine evening but waterproofs on standby already because I've lived in the UK long enough to know.
Feels really good, especially while thinking that if all goes as planned and dreamed, in two months I'll be dance Dance DANCING all night to the salsa beats in Cafe Havana and Cafe del Mar in sultry Cartagena, con mojito o jugo de lulo en una mano y la otra mano en la mano de la chiquita mas hermosa del mundo!  Thanks for this, RP!
A fine song for a lazy summer Sunday afternoon.
Did I just get put on hold?

Spontaneous dancing, martini in hand...
O dance

Between this and Jill Barber's "Measures and Scales"...  I HAVE to learn to play the piano, or at least the upright bass.

I like it a lot, but is it really cheesy? I don't think so, somehow. It has some depth, I think.
It's raining hard here in Brighton - and has been all day long - it's now 18.30.  This track is good to hear in such circumstances - take me to Cuba baby!
MORE PINK MARTINI PLEASE!!{#Bananapiano}
tiki drinks

This song make me want to get my drink on....something fruity & frothy
Excellent musicians, great vocals, what's not to like?
Excellent cheesy lounge music.
Love the percussion.
Tres fromage, in a hipster kinda of way.
these guys could have jammed with the BVSC, no problemo.  kind of a swingy cuba feel
Look at those guys they are banging on the bongos like chimpanzees

This is nothing but make-believe jazz - repetition does not make music. Try the real stuff if you want music that plays with the mind.

hell yeah...Dig that craaaaazy sound!
I recently heard this in the background of a Soprano's episode (Season 3). I have a feeling I've heard it other places too. Kind of like those sound effects in Marathon 2 reused in movie after movie
Groovin'!
This is one of the best songs on what I think is one of my top 10 albums ever. What is so cool about it is how many people ask about it when they are over and it is playing. I have turned a bunch of other people on to Pink Martini without even trying. Didn't like the follow up albums as much, though I still enjoy them.
I Love them, I feel like a Mastroianni having a Dry Martiny with Gilda...
Brilliant cover art.
Ahhhh.......much better. Thank you!
I like this song. Too bad the streams are down and I can't hear it. When will they be back up? Bill? Where are you?!? I can't deal this early without my RP!! lol.

Hola! Muy bueno de Martini...
After performing in Chico they hung out in the street, met the fans, and smoked cloves. They put on a delicious show and told strange stories. However, this track is a little bland compared to some of their racier stuff.

Wasn't there a band called the Coctails who did this kind of music too?
The Coctails! I had forgotten all about them. I saw them play a bunch of times in Champaign IL in the early 90s. They were fantastic. Unfortunately I think I only had them on vinyl, and I wouldn't even begin to know where to look for it now, even if I had a way to play it. Someone please UPLOAD SOME COCTAILS!

this song reminds me of the orange-passing scene in Charade.

Fantastic! Both of their CDs are great...very worldly! Each song is very different from the others. Fun to watch in a live concert!
best song on the album!
