Nice one. I'd go for 'Surfing With The Alien' too...the song every DJ plays to seem cool (not that you need it)!

This makes me want to play Command and Conquer: Red Alert!
is he from the pittsburgh area? i'm not sure why i think that...
Soundscape.
Why does this remind me of the background of the Command & Conquer video game?
Apparently I am a  philistine because I had only come across Joe playing on this Neil Young cover with Grace Potter++. But it's pretty great stuff ...
Cortez the Killer
I'm not normally a huge Satriani fan, but I really like this one.
Would prefer Scofield or Metheny over Satriani, but still Joe has his unique stile and explores the musical periphery in a very likeable way.

Very nice to hear this here.
In quite every album of this guy, you can find 1 or 2 jewels.
This one you chose Bill is a good one. Thanks.

Ah, a shout out to the marvelous Rick Beato!  If you're a musician who loves a good deconstruction of a song's harmonic structure, chord changes, modal guitar scales, and cave-man drum fills, search for Rick Beato on YouTube!
Joe Satriani has made tremendous contribution to getting digital effects / pedals and software,  higher up ,  on the international guitar scene with younger generations. While the older gen prefer big box tube / solid state guitar amps with full range speaker cones . He definitely helped  me get my mind to understanding, the importance of blending, both tech genres, of old school amps /  digital amp modelling and various software plugins techniques, for creating new, mind blowing sounds,  in the mix at my recording studio.

Now and then i pick one of his many name sake guitars, to get those luscious lightening strike notes, combined with, aptly timed slow hand,  power chord shredding, tone-licious harmonic melts, to delight my listening staff and patrons.  Thank you Joe for teaching me so much more than just playing great guitar !
I quite regularly play guitar along with RP and it seems to me than more often than by chance, sequential songs play in same key (these in D minor). Is it a co-incidence, or is Bill playing guitar, too?

I don't know much about Joe, so I'll take your word for it. But this outstanding and I'd like to hear more of his work. Which JS songs do you think are better?

Depends on what it is you like about JS. Same album, great riff...Chords of Life. From Crystal Planet...Raspberry Jam Delta V. From Engines of Creation, Flavor Crystal 7. From is There Love in Space.. If I Could Fly. There are many more.
One thing though, he should stick to instrumentals...

Nice sonic transition from John Hammond to this. The ending and staring notes are the same.

10!
This whole set has been a 10 starting with Canada's Toronto Queen Street West one and only Big Sugar.....John Hammond plays Tom Waits, Robin Trower and now JS   ~ great set Bill!

Great tune for "bed spins".

I thought for sure this was PT.

I've never paid attention to Joe Satriani before.  If this is his typical style, I may have to investigate further.

After hearing first riffs in the opening I was like 'woohoo, Joe Satriani on RP!' Interestingly, somewhere in the middle of the song my mind wandered to Dream Theater's stuff. I guess they don't get played often here.

Given America's propensity to elect B-grade movie actors with Alzheimer's that consult astrology, coke-addled alcoholics that dodge their military service, lying serial liars that lie not just in a first election but again a second time, and game show hosts that consort with the Mafia...in 2020 the line-up will be:

Republican - a Yosemite Sam/Foghorn Leghorn ticket; Democratic - Daffy Duck/Spongebob.

And millions of people will vote and cheer for them.

Great chops. Awesome in parts. But I don't hear an abundance of there there. The soundtrack to a car smashing building crashing war video game.
Shit. I had to check and make sure i was on RP. Not one of my fave artists but now and then i'm captivated.

Edit: Gotta get that CD now. {#Guitarist}

This is a good day. Trower, then Satriani. Gonna have to go play the lottery tonight!
hmmmm, cool, gonna youtube this guy for "summersong" etc .....
Even if this tune doesn't enter into my Satriani Top 20 (but certainly does into my Top 50), it's very pleasant to hear it here on RP!
Thanks Bill!!!

It's you.  You have a desert like sound. (Just teasing.)  I really like it, too - and something about that mysterious "Scheherazade" sort of vibe, with the major-then-minor key shifts - it's quite yummy.  I still love "Summersong" the best, though... {#Sunny}

Nice "Poose" !!  ;)
Not much of a fan of the guitar work here, but a little fiddling with the equalizer brings out a bottom end that's pretty fantastic. I'm too lazy to look up the keyboard, bass and drummer, but they work together very well.

A steady diet of this kind of thing does nothing for me (and there are certainly a number of streaming feeds that cater to screaming guitar-heads if you disagree).  In small doses however, such as what RP provides, it's not all that bad.

There's been a change in the occupants of the White House since you posted that comment. Now it's all Jonas Brothers, all the time.

I never understood this philosophy.  How does balance things out work?  If everyone just rated things like they truly think, wouldn't' the ratings then be properly balanced?

Yeah, me too. Had never heard too much Satriani until RP started playing him recently, but his stuff seems to fit pretty well into the RP format.

Hmm, I'm surprised they're not putting on "If I Could Fly" with all the drama.

Either way, I like Satriani - and I like the change to have it on RP

Great music for bedspins, if you liked bedspins as I did.

Riding the Scree, from The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway, was always a favorite too.

I dont like making comments on stuff that are too bad, but i cant help myself,

Radiohead.  Coma time.

Come on, let's rock a bit!

Re the "booger eating trailer park moron" comment: they're playing RP in the White House now?

Ok, since you made me lol I will give it a 10. And that means a lot because I was outside doing some landscaping in the front yard and got a bad sunburn on my expanding forehead, so I'm not in the best of moods. (does the White House really listen to RP?)

p.s. Well, that was a waste of time, I gave it a 10 but the 'Avg. Rating' didn't budge, it's still at 5.9

This is a good song for those of us who like bedspins.   {#Cool}
Another one is "Riding The Scree" from The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway.

Once again I see the usual suspects who I almost always completely disagree with ... although at a 5.9 cumulative rating, I'm outvoted.

I downloaded this after hearing it here.  It rocks.  Maybe we need an "RP Rocks" feed and leave Radiohead and Cake to the somnambulists.

8.

This is good. I've always like Joe Satriani since he often uses really strange chords and melodies. He can be a bit too show-offy though.
This is good. I wonder if Steven Wilson of Porcupine Tree listens to this. However, parts of it sound a tad self-absorbed. Going to need a few more listens.
He's got one song he plays over and over. Just like Dave Mathews. 1
This is the first time I have heard Joe on RP, how nice. This is really an eclectic radio space.

It's not bad, pretty good in fact, but there's no 'there' there. It's missing something. Sounds a bit like a movie soundtrack occasionally. c.

Althought the guy is extremely talented, I catorgize him with Steve Vai, boring when not accompanied by a vocalist.
