I'm an island
Everyone can see that I'm an island
I've got ocean just about
Everywhere that I can see

So I'll be stranded unless you come to me
And I'm lonely

I would rather fall from grace completely, than let you change my mind
I would rather bet my life against the rising of the sun

Can't be too careful
About the friends you keep around you
Some won't ever let you down
Some who'll fail you every day

And it's a blatant disrespect of privacy
It enrages me

I would rather fall from grace completely, than let you change my mind
I would rather bet my life against the rising of the sun

I'm an island
Can't you understand me? I'm an island
And I'm finally by myself
The way I've got to be

Now that's exactly the thing that's been killing me

I would rather fall from grace completely, than let you change my mind
I would rather bet my life against the rising of the sun

Ben Taylor at Wychwood Festival 2007

I like it.  I like it a lot.  I like it a lot more than anything his dad did.   Sorry James, you should be proud, not angry.  Relax man!  Hey!  Put down the...
Pretty weak, but not terrible

I think he sounds more like his uncle Livingston.

I saw him and his band in a very small venue in 2002 touring to support this record, they were quite good and he very likeable.  He just produced a record of new takes of his mother's (Carly Simon) hits with her that is pretty interesting.  Just remebered, his cover of "Time of the Season" from this CD is very cool.

He is the son of James Taylor and Carly Simon. His sister, Sally Taylor, is also a musician.

That's a pretty nice vocal gene pool.  I wonder if Sally sounds like Carly?

Uncanny how much his voice sounds like his father's.  Not a bad song either.  It's got to be a hard road to hoe, following in footsteps like that I'd think.

Row.  You hoe rows.  Garden rows.   Not roads.  That would be rather silly.

Can't say the song is doing anything for me but it's not offensive either.  A lite rock 6.

Had to check. Yep, a Taylor.

love the barn!
The whole disc (2002) is terrific. New disc, his 3rd, due out next month...
let's just hope that he's not nearly as much of an ass as his dad.

Quite nice....very reminscent of his Dad in the early 70's around "One Man Dog" which is a brilliant record.

WOW...havent heard that album name from anyone I can recall..........one of JTs forgotten......I always liked "Someone" and "Nobody But You"  off that album.   Thanks for the memory..{#Clap}
No doubt that he sounds like his dad.  Given that, he inherited quite a fine voice!  I wish I had a golden throat like that.
Look at it this way - at least his wasn't the son of Gilbert Gottfried!

I was thinking about how interesting it is that his voice is so close to his dad's. Funny how we always think of kids taking after their parents' looks, but I never thought about the same thing carrying over to the voice. Makes sense I suppose. I wonder if there's been a scientific study?

That's gotta be rough, when you're writing stuff like this when James TAYLOR is your dad!? ouch.

Roseanne and Johnny (ok, kidding on that one) ? Why just kidding?

It caused me some serious reality vertigo for a second. But I like it too.

what, 30 years of James Taylor wasn't enough? Now we need to hear his son too? No offense to James, who was an inspired voice for his time, but this doesn't add much to the musical world other than a name.
This hasn't been played since 2003? That's surprising. Very likeable tune.

No kidding, it didn't even occur to me it might not be James Taylor til I looked up at the artist/song title. Good stuff.

I agree, the bass does add a lot to this song. Some of my favorite bass-work is from America. Good stuff!
Ok. I think I\'ve heard this enough for one lifetime.

Oh sure, be that way!

That's funny - as a bass player myself, I had just msg'ed a friend of mine who was listening to RP as well saying "This... this is how I want to play." I need more practice :)

Well this is pleasant, and yes I thought it was his dad at first, but then I've also always had a soft spot for JT. Great CD title. Always loved that phrase myself, from one of Dylan Thomas's descriptions of his happy childhood. "Fern Hill" on-line: https://www.poets.org/poems/poems.cfm?45442B7C000C07040F73
very boring. like father like son.

Or maybe over to Mexico with his Father? :p ;)
Ben\'s voice is nice but the smooth bass line on this really carries this tune.
Definition of a 5, in my book. Neither here nor there.
I don\'t know why everyone hates this so much.
Looks like Ben\'s as big a yawn as his parents are.

He should start smoking. Maybe a shot or three of JD every morning. After a year of that his voice should be different from his dads.
Ok, James Taylor dubbed this. I\'m just stating the obvious again since everyone else has already commented on the resemblance - but WOW. I thought it was new JT - forgot totally that he had a son making music.
Like father too much like son.

Kelly and Ozzy. Sort of.
Like hitting some kind of time warp - eerie.....and cool. :)

I\'m too distracted by the vocal similarity to his dad... Perhaps I\'ll get through this after repeated listenings. He must be so tired of hearing these comments.

Not much, to be sure. He certainly owes more of a stylistic debt to his dad than does, say, Jacob Dylan. That said, and pop-cultural-Oedipal machinations aside, I like this. Except maybe the xylophone or whatever that is tinkling in the background here and there.
Clone!
We expect genetic offspring to physically resemble the parents, but I\'m amazed at how much a son can SOUND so much like his father.
Could he sound more like his father?
