Classic.  I hope you settled on this one for the ceremony.  Of course, "for those about to rock" is almost obligatory at the reception... along with "Big Balls" for that matter.

I already loved this song when I saw Gary Louris and Mark Olson in a small club in Sydney earlier this year. I was standing 4 feet from Louris at the merch table after the show when he spontaneously started singing it accapella as a request for a couple who were about to get married. It was one of the most magical music moments I've ever been lucky enough to witness.

The tricky bit about doing any "sentimental" art, is doing it right, without becoming overly mushy/tacky/cheesy/corny/tasteless, if you know what I mean.
I think we agree, the Jayhawks have done it quite well here..

The Jayhawks are one of those bands nobody seems to know but produce consistenly fine work. I'll find myself randomly humming one of their songs and have to grab the iPod to hear it. Thanks for playing them!

I played and sang this song with my guitar for my wife during our wedding reception during the dance. One of the most surreal moments of my life, then my Phil uncle shouted: "You're goona get lucky tonight!". Quite the experience, she was crying and smiling at the same time. I think I subtituted Rice Lake, WI for Manchester to make it more fitting. Music and great song writing are wonderful.

Great idea. My unsolicited advice, if she doesn't want to, don't push it. Let her do whatever SHE wants on HER day, as it typically means more to the bride, anyway. However, I'm impressed that you want to participate in the planning, and she (hopefully) will embrace your ideas.
