Gone - she's gone
How do you feel about it?
That's what I thought
You're real torn up about it
And I wish you the best
Though I could do without it
And I will because you've worn me down
Oh, I will because you've worn me down

Worn me down like a road
I did anything you told
Worn me down to my knees
I did anything to please.
But you can't stop thinking about her
No, you can't stop thinking about her

And you're wrong, you're wrong
I'm not overreacting
Something is off
Why don't we ever believe ourselves, and I
Oh I, I feel that word for you
And I will because you've worn me down
And I will because you have worn me down

Worn me down like a road
I did anything you told
Worn me down to my knees
I did anything to please
But you can't stop thinking about her
No, you can't stop thinking about her

She's so pretty
She's so damn right
But I'm so tired of thinking
About her again tonight.

Worn me down like a road
I did everything you told
Worn me down to my knees
I did everything to please you

Worn me down like a road
I did everything you told me to do
But you, you can't stop thinking about her

No you can't stop thinking about her
No you can't stop thinking about her
No you can't stop thinking of her

Sounds like so many other tunes. And yet, it's very sultry, soulful, tuneful and catchy. A 7? I'm tempted to bump it to 8.
oh what a beauty, would love to lay with her and count those freckles  : )
What version is this song?
Love this song (song gets an 8), but not this version (version gets a 5).

Agreed. I have only heard the "rockin'" version, and this soft version pales in comparison.
Add another to the agreed version. I much prefer the other version.

Yeah, sounds like Bono chickie! But more like the Pogues in that rough, alcohol strewed poisoned voice. Solid 1 but I won't even rate it, it's sooo bad.
I thought this was gonna be Sinead Lohan's "Whatever It Takes". The music, especially the drumming, reminds me of the other song. I do like this one, though about two counts less than Lohan's tune.
Not one of the better tunes from a phenomenal album.
I like this version. Saw her several years ago, band included a cello. Why's she been so quiet lately?
Different
This hurts my ears.
...i've never heard this before, but i like what i'm hearing...

Yes and yes. She's not an immense talent but she's suitably entertaining. No investigation of Yamagata would be complete without checking out the first album by Bumpus, back when she was their lead vocalist.
Ah, good man drover! I wouldnt have known that. Loving it))))

what you said
I tend to agree more with Freeone1 and Gryn (was it?). The 2005 comments seemed to really be dissin' her. I saw her live some months ago and the voice although not perfect (whose is always?) was husky and full of character, soul and good melody. She was always very personable with the audience, ya know, spoke and joked. Kin'a an 'nusual band for that set with hard rocker guitarist, country rock guitarist, cellist and the usual. Her keyboarding was fine too. Albums I've heard are at leeeast average to better than average. Great live artist in a small venue. See her if you can :)
Saw her perform at ACL fest this summer and got to meet her. Very gracious, talented woman. The girl is full of ummphh! Good to hear her on RP!
Amazing vocals, amazing spirit. Interesing accent.

This sounds like a U2 song to me. I can easily imagine Bono vocalizing, and the instrumentation already sounds like a U2 track without any further modification.
That wasn't Bono singing :P

Hmmm. Well. I like the instrumental part of the track. And she's a looker, that's for sure. But EGAD that vocal is dreadfully flat, off key, ragged, etc. Even so, as a whole, the track works, sorta.

I quite liked this song. You guys seem to be holding her to a pretty high standard. Am I missing something? Is she generally better than this, is she worth investigating further?

Ok, this version is not on Happenstance, where do you find it?
Eh, was just thinking that myself. The album version is only OK to begin with -- this version exposes the song for the shallow fluff it really is at its core.
It's been 8 months or so now, and I still love this song. \:D/
Holy Cow! Is she off key or what? :headshake: The beginning is sung totally flat. She gets a little better, but not much. !Sharpen up, Rachael!

She has an EP, which I read somewhere had a different version of a couple of songs that appear on Happenstance. I haven't heard it though. Have to say I like the album version better. This version seems overproduced.

Good analogy...geez..did I spill it right? Needs another listen.

I knew I'd heard her somewhere before. I find her phrasing a bit like the singer for Ivy. Find it a bit off-putting; she's trying to sound pained and heartfelt, but comes off almost as if she's singing phonetically.

LOL!!!

Meh. I heard this a lot on xpn.org - I think the overplay there tired me of it.

Nify. I hear a cross between Tegan & Sara and Erin McKeown, plus a hint of Sara McLachlin.
Agree on the comparison, especially on the higher octaves...
this is excellent!
I find Rachael achingly attractive... on oh so many levels.

Final tally: 1 for 4. "Paper Doll" got added.

I'd certainly like to hear some more from her- she was on Letterman a couple of weeks ago- very captivating, enough so that I checked out the CBS website to find out just who she was and then checked out her own website. Would love to hear some more! :)

I would like to hear more, because according to several reviews she is a jazz/blues singer. ?? Don't here that here.
Well, she used to be in a whiteboy-funk band named Bumpus, but she's more of a brooding-piano-chick like Tori Amos than a jazz/blues singer. While this album is a thoroughly worked-over studio production, her EP really highlights her "chick on a piano" style. For those who want to hear more, I'll be uploading more tracks from this album; we'll see if Bill adds them. Frankly, this tune is one of the two that were obviously crafted for VH1 and radio airplay. I like it anyway, but there are better on the album.
I saw her in concert and she was wonderful. She opened up for Gomez and she had a great stage presence, she really one over the crowd.
I hear it on the radio all the time and am completely turned off by the drum machine and, although her voice and cadence are interesting, what she is saying isn't particulaly clever. I did hear a live acoustic session (world cafe) that was MUCH better.
Remind me of New Order. SOOOO 20th CENTURY!!
Kind of like a lowrent Sarah McLaughlin, but captivating nonetheless
a bit repetative, but, what can i say, i like it
Nice, fresh new voice. Jammin' What else has she got? Let us hear some more, Mr. Bill.
I like it...just made it onto a burned CD of tunes a few days ago along with Ima Robot, Carbon Kid, Coma Girl, My Coco by Stellastar
This one is growing on me...it's not knocking me off my chair...but nice little tune...I enjoy it.
I would like to hear more, because according to several reviews she is a jazz/blues singer. ?? Don't here that here.
monotonous - good travel music, perhaps
I don't know what it is, but this song just grabs ahold and won't let go.
Nify. I hear a cross between Tegan & Sara and Erin McKeown, plus a hint of Sara McLachlin.
:nodhead:
Interesting enough that I'd like to hear more...
This song would sound really good if it just....stopped playing, or something.
