My uncle had the 45 and I accidentally sat on it, smashing it to bits. We laughed about it later, but I'll never forget it! Quite unfortunately he's passed away now, but hearing the song again made me think of him. Thank you, RP!

Another gear in the RP Time Machine. This one gets a 9 on the nostalgia meter, a 6 on the song craft. Gosh, so wistful about a miserable guy who got dumped. But it's a lovely melody.

I haven't heard this song in years and I suddenly thought of it last night, so I put it on You Tube on repeat all morning, only to take a break and listen to RP, and then I hear it here.
 
It's so simple, weakly sung, heart-felt and heart-breaking.  "You're not to blame."  Wonderful.

I recognise this song but not this original version - the singing is a bit 'pitchy' as they say on the X Factor and such talent shows.

In my opinion there is no justification for playing this one instead of the far superior Four Tops-version. Even if this would turn out to be the original.

I remember a rumor from many years ago that the "flute solo" in this song was essentially lifted from a classical recording - what would later be called "sampled" - but I've never found any evidence to support that.

This gets a 5 or so on the nostalgia meter - It's easily 20 years or more since I heard it last. That's a darn good thing. I hope it happens like that again becuse this was mediocre at best. I also noted the similarity with Sharon and Hope - but not to that song's benefit.

A very nice arrangement of a nicely crafted melody. This was a bit before my time but I learned to love it on the oldies stations around here. It is a great song and I love to hear it. It makes me nostalgic for whatever reason.
