Here I stand head in hand
Turn my face to the wall
If she's gone I can't go on
Feeling two foot small
Everywhere people stare
Each and every day
I can see them laugh at me
And I hear them say

Hey, you've got to hide your love away
Hey, you've got to hide your love away

How can I even try?
I can never win
Hearing them, seeing them
In the state I'm in
How could she say to me
"Love will find a way?"
Gather round all you clowns
Let me hear you say

Hey, you've got to hide your love away
Hey, you've got to hide your love away

Good!  Not nearly as GREAT as the Beatles! ...And I'm any Eddie Vedder fan!

One of the first things one learns when taking singing lessons is to pretend your mouth is full of bees... or like your biting an apple you're quite perceptive... at least now we know you're listening. However... we also know you have no knowledge of music.

Your retarded!!

I don't call it a warble. It sounds more like he's trying to sing with a bag of marbles in his mouth. Yellowleadbetter is the ultimate example. Can anyone honestly make out the lyrics to that song?
There are no lyrics to Yellow Ledbetter, the song is sang from the heart... as are all of his songs, the band makes the songs recognizeable and Eddie makes the songs infanate.... 20 years from now... noone will know the lyrics to Yellow Ledbetter but it will be a song that everyone will know and will sing along with.
Vedder tries to sing a song. Maybe if he begged, Stephen Stills would teach him how to write.

I suspect Mr Jackson's fungible assets may soon be back on the block.
Typically if you're going to cover something, you need to do something different with it. This sounds too much like the original to be a good cover. At least it's followed by a Beatles song I've not heard before, "One After 909".

Fun Fact: Entertainment Law! As the owner of publishing rights to a song, one holds the copyright. A copyright is something obtained once a piece of art is secured in a tangible form (i.e. song lyrics scribbled on a diner napkin). In order to challenge any breech of copyright, the the holder must first register the work with the US government. Any time the copywritten material is further published (as sheet music) or covered by another artist (Eddie Vedder) a fee must be paid to the copyright owner. In the latter instance a standard fee is set by the Harry Fox agency (8.5 cents per copy of the work sold) to be collected and distributed to the copyright owner. Anyone can perform a cover of any song, but the copyright owner will receive a portion of profits from it's sale, as noted above. Sorry, Duders, MJ is making money off of this. And I say awesome. As I understand it, McCartney is still making something off it too.
I've only recently come to appreciate some of Pearl Jam's stuff...this song makes me reconsider. I know it's Vedder by himself, so I won't judge the band by this. This song makes me want to strangle myself.
Um, Eddie? Your pretension is showing.

Funny thing, my boss has the same last name and she's Estonian :) I like that track and I like that soundtrack, too. So many good tracks on it. I like the covers, good ones.

I wouldn't say this cover is better than the original, nor is it one of Vedder's better covers, but it's quite good. Then again, I think Eddie does a pretty good job at covers in general. Maybe it's just generational...Ten was one of the first CD's I ever owned.

Bleargh. I'll stick to the original.

One more cover I don't need. Please play the originals.

I agree that this ST is uneven at best, but I really like this cut. I will be accused of blasphemy, but I am liking this better than the original.
Another Eddie fanatic here. His version is certainly different, but does it justice.

Despite his faults, which he was learning about and continuing to openly express I miss John. This song is one of reasons why. (pimp)
Great song from a reasonable sountrack to an awful movie. I like Ben Folds - 'Golden Slumbers' and Aimee/Michael - 'Two of Us' on the same album

OK. You're a no-taste unbe-- Actually, I too think Vedder does well with this song. Still prefer the original, but I do like this cover as well.

for a (self-proclaimed) genius, that's an idiotic comment. man's an acclaimed musician and a multimillionaire. how exactly is he an idiot? say what you want about kittens, bunnies or flowers...but do not speak ill of Eddie!

Why is everybody so down on this? I think it's a damn good tribute to the original. Maybe it's just because I hear so much of Lennon in it. It definitely doesn't ruin the song for me!
Don't try covering the Fab Four unless you can bring something new to it.

I hate Eddie Vedder and his warbling, he is ruining this song, please make it stop. John would be rolling in his grave had he not been creamated.
creamated as in International Delight or Coffee Mate? :D :D
What is the point of this? Me thinks Eddie thinks way too much of himself.
when this came out I took a while to listen to it back-to-back with the original. it's very similar, but much heavier and darker than the original, both with Vedder's voice and a bassier guitar sound. I think he adds his own phrasing and emphasis, and while I like the subtle lightness of the original better, I think this is a worthwhile cover.

Enough with the bad Beatles covers. It ain't right, I tell you! <-(
I don't know if I love or hate this...... No wait, I hate this. EV does nothing new with a classic but put his name on it.
The Silkie made the best version in my opinion. about 1965 (guess)

Nicely done, but why bother making a cover that sounds so much like the original?
Because there are 2 things in the world you shouldnt mess with. 1) the IRS and 2) Beatles songs.
I saw Pearl Jam in concert and vedder covered this tune. He called it a John Lennon tune and not a beatles tune. Appropriately so.
bendawg wrote:
its sad that you can't appreciate eddie's vocal talent.
He does have "vocal talent" but it's not particularly well showcased in this recording. For those who ask why make a cover so like the original, I think the answer is that this song was done for a soundtrack album. They couldn't get the rights to use the Beatles recordings, so they might have wanted something with some star-power but an overall sound close to the original. So, hey, fine for the movie, but I don't think this recording has much significance on its own.

At least Eddie sounds seriously hurt, as opposed to the Beatles, who sounded cheerful about hiding their love away! If I must listen to the Beatles' music, I usually prefer it as performed by any artist but them.

Sorry, but this just does not work for me. I am not a big fan of Eddie or PJ to begin with, but this doesn't sound right.
