This album came out when I was in middle school and I was playing tumpet in the band/orchestra. My mom bought the album and would play it all the time.

This reminds me of a tape that my dad used to play in our 12 hours roadtrips (Puerto Vallarta for example...) along with other songs from 60's and 70's movies. Thanks Bill for reminding a lot of us of our childhood

Wow, I'm 11 years old, my parents aren't home and I have this playing on the family Grundig console - at significant volume! As a junior high trumpet player, I'm also trying to figure out the notes, so I can play it myself - never quite as well as Herb, though. The Tijuana Brass was big part of my adolescence - Thanks Bill & Rebecca!
My kids LOVE this. Batshit-crazy dancing round the kitchen...
ever since I was a kid and my parents would put this on I would laugh at how ridiculously fast he was. Such a showoff. 😎

Herb Alpert is one of the smartest and wealthiest people in the music business. Worth looking up his history as an executive.

I heard this as part of the soundtrack on Cheech and Chong's "Still Smokin'", a VHS tape I wore out when I was a teenager. My buddy Paul and I had memorized the entire movie, we watched it so many times one summer. Good times, thanks, Bill

Wow! I don't think I've heard this since I was a kid back in the 60's and 70's. Yet I remember it almost note for note. Cool.
BillG must pull this track out often enough to have 1000+ ratings, yet I don't know if I've heard any of the "old" Herb Alpert records on RP until now. And I'm stoked! My dad, among his rather varied LP collection, was a BIG fan of HA&TTBB; of course, I remember it in reverse chronological order, starting with Rise, which came out when we lived in the 805 (Carpentaria in the house!!) and I was about 4-5 years old.
So, maybe I'll get to hear this 9 next time... Long Live RP!!

My dad has quoted my grandpa as saying back in the '60s that the Tijuana Brass would outlast the Beatles and nobody would know who the Beatles were in 15 years. Although I'm glad he was wrong about nobody knowing the Beatles, I wish the Tijuana Brass had better lived up to his expectations.
OMG I used to love to dance to this song when I was a little girl; I'd totally bounce off the walls to it. Love that whole album!

First impression is really bad. Knowing the original, this is, at first, nearly insulting. (I nearly never like covers) But listening further, I must admit, not taking account of the original, I like it. It's fun, ryhtmic, well done.

Sometime in the early-mid 60's, my grandpa told my dad that in 10 years everyone would be listening to Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass and no one would know who the Beatles were. I kinda think I wish his prediction had come true. This is good stuff.

When I was in grade school, I was laughed out of the room when I offered to bring in my Kinks album ("Kinks" debut with "You Really Got Me") for my class's Holiday Party. The obvious (and otherwise unanimous) choice was everyone else's parent's Herb Albert and the Tijuana Brass Album ("South of the Border"). Shame on me.
No one else would play Herb Alpert's "Zorba", very brave, Bill.

Though this falls into the world music and eclectic mix categories I don't think it's really RP material.

Bill, heard you mention playing trumpet in the marching band, me too. Herb Alpert and Al Hirt were big influences. Egad that was a long time ago.
