I am a child, I'll last a while
You can't conceive of the pleasure in my smile
You hold my hand, rough up my hair
It's lots of fun to have you there

I gave to you, now, you give to me
I'd like to know what you learned
The sky is blue and so is the sea
What is the color, when black is burned?
What is the color?

You are a man, you understand
You pick me up and you lay me down again
You make the rules, you say what's fair
It's lots of fun to have you there

I gave to you, now, you give to me
I'd like to know what you learned
The sky is blue and so is the sea
What is the color, when black is burned?
What is the color?

I am a child, I'll last a while

so beautiful.

stupid question - is this stills or young singing this version?
Too bad this group was so short-lived.  I have always wondered if Buffalo Springfield could have achieved the same heights as CSN and CSNY.

Stills, Young, and Richie Furay had a lot of talent.  (Still do?)

People are deep. They have moments, days even, when life is good. A news item here, a tv report there, it can make you angry. I think you have to hear Mr. Young's dark side to feel the joy in his light side. I like both, the light side makes me dance with my loved one, the dark one makes me wish I was dancing instead.

I was talking about the tone of his voice in this song, I really like it here and wish he used it while singing more often
I much preferred CSNY over CSN.  This song is one of the best from this album.  Neil added a lot to this group.

Pretty sure Neil was only about 17ish when he wrote this. Innocence of youth before life, drugs etc affect one's persona. There is another song that is pivotal in Neil's songwriting, again written around that time, called Sugar Mountain. "You can't be 20, on Sugar Mountain".

I like Neil's recent albums too - still has worthwhile things to say. Enjoy.

wow. i didn't know that. thank you.

and i agree, still worthwhile things to say.
Great Buffalo Springfield song! The song Questions with Stephen Stills fuzz tone guitar would be another great song to play from the same album.

This isn't Buffalo Springfield "I am a Child"

Gary Jules "Mad World" cover is playing atm. Just FYI.

it would have been nice if he continued this sound thru his whole career......
oh well, I still have 5-6 of his songs that I love even if I skip the rest of them

Just look and listen to what Neil did for 1967 - 1974.

My gosh... he rivals the Beatles!
The older I get...The more I appreciate this band.

I truly think they were the FIRST country rock band. And...some of their trippy stuff was done in 1967 and perhaps influenced other bands. Case in point: the Sgt Pepper album.

{#Smile}. Funny, took a look at the comments to see if anyone had commented on his voice - and sure enough, the very first one...
