It isn't such a crime
It isn't such a shame
It happens all the time
You shouldn't take the blame
Go on and have a laugh
Go have a laugh on me
Go on and have a laugh
At all your misery
Mary Anne, Mary Anne (don't cry Mary Anne)
I really wanna tell you Mary Anne, Mary Anne
I'm thinking of you
Mary Anne, Mary Anne (don't cry Mary Anne)
I really wanna tell you Mary Anne, Mary Anne, Mary Anne
You take a look around
And all you seem to see
Is bringing you down
As down as you can be
Go on and have a laugh
Go have a laugh on me
Go on and have a laugh
At how bad it can be
Mary Anne, Mary Anne (you'll be all right)
I really wanna tell you Mary Anne, Mary Anne
I'm thinking of you
Mary Anne, Mary Anne (you'll be all right)
I really wanna tell you Mary Anne, Mary Anne, Mary Anne
Mary Anne, Mary Anne (goodnight Mary Anne)
I really wanna tell you Mary Anne, Mary Anne
I'm thinking of you Mary Anne, Mary Anne (goodnight Mary Anne)
I really wanna tell you Mary Anne, Mary Anne, Mary Anne

Bought this CD a while back, and can't get over how bbbbbbbBAD the cover design is. I mean, it's embarrassingly bad. Shamefully bad. When people who have never heard of Marshall Crenshaw see this on my CD rack, they think it must be really bad music.
painfully repetitive
anyone wanna count how many times he says Mary Anne? Maybe we could have a small bet pool going :)
someday, some way...I heard Marshall Crenshaw on RP! love this station...
Wow, I never thought I'd hear this song again. I'd love to hear more from this genre...like some folks suggested Todd Rundgren...also 10cc, Little River Band, Three Dog Night, etc. There's so much from that era that neither gets played on classic rock nor, obviously, here. P.S. Some interesting trivia about Marshall, especially given the Beatles follow...in the late 70's he was understudy on Broadway as John Lennon in the musical Beatlemania...he even starred in the version that played in San Francisco and on the road.

Wait, what was that? Aural deficiency because we don't agree with you? That's neither polite, nor based in fact. Sorry man, I'm not big on this song either, but that doesn't constitute a problem with my hearing (or any other part of me).
I don't know, when's the last time you had a hearing examination? This could be serious, man. Check it out!
Marshall Crenshaw is one of the most underrated American songwriters. This is a great song. His compilation CD, "This Is Easy", dispels all doubts.
Marshall Crenshaw! Great! (How about some Dwight Twilley)

Yes, there seems to be an aural deficiency here for many when it comes to good 'ol pop songs. Too bad.

yeah, like there's any freakin' comparison between paul's masterpiece and this absolute dreck!

If it isn't deep, desturbing or excessively expressionistic this crowd doesn't seem to go for it. I for one enjoyed it.
Forget Ginger.

Absolutely! I was hoping billg would follow this with something from NAZZ, I still have the vinyl but don't know if it made it into digital.
Todd Rundgren Anthology - 1968-1985 Rhino R2 71491 Has "Open My Eyes" as the first track!

While it is easy to dismiss Marshall Crenshaw, his work is an extension of the fine tradition of American pop. He clearly borrows heavily from Buddy Holly but there are worse things. The songs are written as a counterpoint to life's real difficulties, not as a summation of them, and as such should be seen as an interlude of sweet escape.

It's not Roxanne (a 0), but it's almost as bad. . . .
It's not Cynical Girl (a 10), but it's very good
i came here to give it the "thumbs down" vote... oh well. (how the fark did this make it to the main channel?)

_______ I'm one of those people who hear bits of one song in another all the time. For example, this reminds me of "My Heart Hurts" by Nick Lowe. So there.
Yay! Even if it's spelled wrong.
One of my favorite pop artists. How about "Someday Someway"? Dan

I'll second that.

Well done, young grasshopper. He plays in Austin several times a year. Will have to go see him next time around. Still love his stuff.
He's really had a great career, performing largely under the radar, which is unusual for someone who has a way with "pop" songs. And, while I recognize that having a way with "pop" songs is not usually call for praise, I think iin this case it is well deserved praise.
Would love to hear more from Marshall! What a great pop album!
I was hooked on the first measure. Goes right to the heart.
Good to hear some MC on RP....
