Too much - MUTE!

Hilarious.  Reminds me of the episode where Kramer learns that Lou Gehrig died from Lou Gehrig's Disease:  "Whoa!  What were the odds of that?!?"

That should give you enough of an overdose of nonsensical associations to prevent yourself from making any. Except if you're all apopheniacs yourselves of course.

Aaaarggg!  I should have just ignored the nutcase link, but no!  I had to go and click on it, and now I'm going to have nightmares...

Thanks for nothing... see you all in the morning.

Anyone know what happened to these guys?  No album in 5 years.

It aint necessarily so. Made the same assumption about my boss. He is gay. He thinks all criminals should be castrated, without anaesthetic - testicles will be provided for those who don't have them. The same applies to our current, allegedly left-wing government. He misses Margaret Thatcher.

Both Amazon.com and the Astralwerks websites currently list the title as being "Crystal Night" (two words). It seems like it may be mislabeled here on Radio Paradise. I do hope these guys aren't white supremacists as I was quite liking the song before I read the comments.
The original title of the song in our database was incorrect. It is indeed two words and has nothing to do with the tragic events of 1938. It's unfortunate that the mistitling led to such misguided speculation here. The band members are neither Nazis nor white supremacists. German, yes. Nazi, no. One of the original names of the duo was "Homoelectric", which leads one to believe that they might be members of a social group with distinctly non-fascist tendencies :-).
Tonight, the arrangement of this is reminding me a bit of Rainbow, fer cryin' out loud: Stone cold... And I thought I knew you so well... Stone cold Cant break away from your spell... You leave me stone cold
Not bad at all.... But what a nonsense to combine 'Alpine' with 'Aryan'. I can't find any connectin between the band and any Nazi-stuff...!? Though the title 'Crystalnight' definetly reminds one of what happened in November 1938 in Germany.

"Crystalnight" (especially with no spaces) is a direct translation of the German "Krystalnacht", which is when the Nazis started outright blaming Jews for trashing Germany. Couple that with the German (not to mention Aryan) image that "Alpine Stars" gives, and I have to wonder what the basis of this song is.
I agree! And look at the album title - White Noise! White supremacy alert! Could it possibly get any more racist than that?

With this type of logic, I wonder what type of physicist you are. Probably pretty crappy.

Agreed. And the song isn't half bad.
The Lyrics seem very simplistic to me. An alternative interpretation might be: when people are teens they are cocky and act like they know everything and some people (in the USA, for example) think the time in the sun for them was their teens. Like the folks mentioned in "glory days" by bruce springsteen? "I was such a football hero back then.I had my whole life ahead of me" "Oh I was such a hot prom queen back then and anything was possible blah blah blah." Unless there's the outright message of destroying someone's way of life, burning their religious institutions, execution, I see subtletly and nothing more. Maybe the guys like snow and the whole winter olympics jam. Good for them. Is this a new band? I'd be curious to know why all the snow names recently--arctic monkeys, snow patrol, alpinestars....?! If they were all produced by Al Gore I would crack up.

OK, now THAT was funny.

Alpine -> Aryan -> Nazi
Eh, what? "Alpine" and "Aryan" are not even slightly related words. From the OED: Aryan: f. Sanskrit {amac}rya, in the later language ‘noble, of good family,' but apparently in earlier use a national name ‘comprising the worshippers of the gods of the Brahmans' (Max MÃŒller); cf. Zend airya ‘venerable,' also a national name, and Old Persian (AchÊmenian) ariya national name (applied to himself by Darius Hystaspes); whence probably Gr. {Alenis}{rho}{epsilon}{giacu}{alpha}, {Alenis}{rho}{giacu}{alpha}, L. Ar{imac}a, Aria, and Ari{amac}na, the eastern part of ancient Persia, and Pehlevi and mod.Pers. Irân ‘Persia.' Alpine: ad. L. alp{imac}nus, f. Alpes Alps (Sorry about the markup. "imac" is an "i" with a line over it, and "amac" is an "a" with a line over it, both indicating long vowels.)
Am I the only one that thinks of Nazis (among other things) when I think of the Alps? That particular link is pretty tenuous, but the "Crystalnight" one really strengthens the whole thing.
Yes, you are. And no it doesn't.
There is no Nazi connection for christ sake. I haven't heard this song in a long time, although not necessarily a bad thing.

Could you clarify how "Alpine" == Nazi? I can see how "White Noise" might be construed that way (although judging from their website and cover art they are obsessed with skiing, which would also explain such references to snow and ice). I don't get the negative connotations of "Alpine", though.

Weren't homosexuals also targets in The Holocaust? It seems like there could be a bit of a conflict between being a white supremacist and associating so strongly with gay people. I'm not saying it's impossible, just that it would be unusual.
It would be stupid, but I wouldn't call it unusual. Log Cabin Republicans, I'm looking at you.
I've noticed a lot of songs on RP lately that seem influenced by Al Stewart. I don't recall him seeming very cutting-edge in his time, but his effects linger!

I don't get the negative connotations of "Alpine", though. Here's something interesting from the Alpinestars bio at their record label at (click here) :
HOMOELECTRIC Famously, Alpinestars only came into being after the promoters of (sadly deceased) Manchester hotspot Homoelectric (imagine 500 Soft Cell groupies in a down-at-heel lesbian cabaret bar) challenged Glyn and Richard to write an hour of peachy keen autobahn synth-pop...

The "KRISTALLNACHT" was not just "blaming" the Jews. KRobyn is perfectly right with his explanation of what has really happened. It was the "beginning of the end" for the Jews in Germany and one of the darkest points in German history. The "Kristallnacht" was 1938 and this is nearly how backwards this music sounds to me. AWFUL! Just awful! from Cologne in Germany, STINGRAY
I was using shorthand. If it were just the name of the song, I'd call it a coincidence. If it were just the name of the song and the "Alpine" connection/image, I'd call it creepy but possibly explicable. With the name of the album, I have to call it pretty unlikely that it didn't at least occur to them that they were making something that white supremacists would pick up on.

Nice song, but there's something about the music for this that makes my brain hurt.
I love this song and can't find it anywhere.
yay for Alpinestars, always!

White noise is noise with equal amplitude at all frequencies and this term is extremely common in electronics, audio and music contexts. Alpinestars has alot of nice groooves, this is not neccessarily one of them. Though, it's still good. 7.5/10.

Haaaaa...! Who was so silly to sign this kids? Worse the "Ruby Ridge"! PS: not "RUBYHORSE", they're great!

As do I. Not to mention the album's title: White Noise. If it's not code, I don't know what is. And the Nazi's didn't just "start blaming Jews" that night, they started destroying Jewish homes and lives -- the broken glass strewn everywhere by morning gave the night it's name.

Cutting against the grain of recent posts, I bought this CD after hearing a few songs here on RP and actually its pretty good. May have to do a Google search to see what (if anything)is going on with them.

This is a good album. there are some great 70's soft rock moments intertwined with techno beats.

According to the blurb on the record company website "ICE and snow figure highly in The Alpinestars mindset. "I like skiing- it's beautiful and quiet," says Richard, but it runs deeper than that. Titles like "Snow Patrol" and "New Ice Age" merely hint at the chilly, yet oddly cosy, atmosphere that pervades White Noise." Maybe they should take a decent history book out on the slopes with them next time? PS they named the band after their favourite make of bicycle, so perhaps it's not suprising...
Wow, if this song only coincidentally shares the name of one of the most evil events in recorded human history, how unfortunate for this band. I wonder if they have a song called "Christianseatenbylionsatdawn."

I think it is just a coincidence, or at least I hope so. These are the lyrics according to a site called letsingit.com. (I am not making up that name.) I think there is some dungeons and dragons-type game called Crystalnight. At the burningman festival one year, they had a special tent set up for it. I also found an Amime site with a different song bearing the same name with lyrics in both English and Japanese. Crystalnight by Alpinestars Crystalnight When we walked in the sun And we spoked with a rise No one woke was to come In the season of ice When we walked in the sun And talked in the sun And we knew everything. When we lived in our time That's (??) us now We try hard to return But nobody knows how When we lived in a time And loved in a time And we had everything. Crystalnight Oooh, and we knew everything Crystalnight Now the tables have turned And the seasons have passed We have wasted our lifes And straight from the path That we walked in the sun When we talked in the sun And we had everything When we walked in the sun And we spoke with a rise No one woke was to come In the season of ice When we walked in the sun And we talked in the sun And we knew everything Oooh, and we knew everything Now haven't you heard, haven't you heard? (Crystalnight) We're a part of the night.

The Manchester duo of Richard Woolgar and Gly Thomas came into being when the promoters of a local club challenged the pair to compose an hour's worth of music. Influenced by New Order and Depeche Mode, the two took the name Alpinestarsfrom Thomas' mountain bike and proceeded to meet the challenge.
