I am consumed by delusions of grandeur
I'm fallen prey to the beautiful girl
I have seen romance in the obvious quarters
And I have painted myself into that world

I have constructed my own personal Babel
But many passages remain out of print
Leaving me in an unresolved sentence
Without an idea of where it went

I have developed an unnatural candour
In contradiction to all I hold dear
I think of myself as tall and silent
This little voice is all that I hear

Now the night's drawing in
I'm your unworthy friend
At the untimely end of a lifetime

Thinking I might hold on to my first marriage
I learned the language of the self obsessed
It was only later at the post-grad parties
That it rewarded me with great success

No longer waiting for my prayers to be answered
No longer waiting for my publisher's call
No longer charming in my reminiscence
Only immersed in a faint afterglow

Now the night's drawing in
I'm your unworthy friend
At the ungodly end of a lifetime

This is great - I had never heard of Lloyd Cole before today, and here I am noticing two of his songs today on RP - Bill played his cover of Leonard Cohen's "Famous Blue Raincoat" earlier today.
Lloyd Cole has also recorded Cohen's 'Chelsea Hotel' - it's on the tribute album 'I'm Your Fan', along with a great version of 'I Can't Forget' by The Pixies and lots more.
*eye roll*
The more you listen to LC, the more you will like him. Now let's hear the title tune, Music in a Foreign Language.
Though the music was uneventfull and slow... But the lyrics where really smart metiphors... I liked that :)

I'm know I've liked something from Lloyd Cole before, this just isn't it.
What a borefest.
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAH ! Lloyd Cole !!!:sunny.gif: He's practically not aired any more (especially his recent works, though they are at least as interesting as his Commotions & early solo works)... save on RP !!!!! Long life to RP !!! :D

Monotony alright
in the early hours it's rather hypnotic...

Ahhh Lloyd - Shakespeare.
Shakespeare may be a bit much, but decent stuff though. Liked the guy 15 years ago, but haven't heard much recent stuff. This song may take a few listens to grow on me. How're the crabs this year - in season yet? Is O'brykie's (sp?) still there?
Ahhh Lloyd - Shakespeare.
"Thinking of holding on to my first marriage." Speak for yourself, dude. <-X <-X Regardless, this is pretty good stuff. Wouldn't mind hearing more from this guy at all.
such a lovely voice! yes i agree one of those artists that totally shine in thier live shows. His studio music doesn't do him justice!
Monotony alright
this has become my favorite song played on rp.

The music is certainly listenable, but his vocals just suck! Just my opinion.
Funny thing is... he is amazing in concert! I wasn't really *that* impressed with his vocals 'til I saw him live.... (A great song to hear his voice better and some fun guitar playing is "Undressed". Still not as good as live, but...) I am so excited he's still around! He is awesome. I haven't heard anything new from him (personally) in about 14 years. Whoa. I'm old.

For some reason this song just hit me deep..in a very nice melancholic way...Do you ever feel like crying listening to a song?
Yes, that's what it's all about....What's the point of listening to stuff that doesn't make you feel anything interesting?

MAN! TH followed by Mr. Cole... another 9! Attaboy!
Doh! Stupid me... missed seeing him for free. Arrgggg...
Simple and beautiful. Nice guitar/keyboard overlay, good voice singing interesting lyrics.
His 1984-1989 is a good start... A nice compilation... There are some more samples on the Amazon site link too...
Never heard of Lloyd Cole before - I really dig this one. Very mellow, great guitar.

Not to be a typical elitist musicado, but you really needed to listen to Lloyd starting in about 1987 and work your way forward to this point before you say his vocal style sucks. Start with a song called: Jennifer She Said.
This is great - I had never heard of Lloyd Cole before today, and here I am noticing two of his songs today on RP - Bill played his cover of Leonard Cohen's "Famous Blue Raincoat" earlier today. Makes me want to hear more. :nodhead: I like it when a "hook" reaches out of the music and pulls me in, even though I usually listen to RP while doing other things.

How about the title tune "Music in a Foreign Language"? Very humable. Dan

I wasn't familiar with this song, but it's really a gorgeous one. Thanks for playing it.
Very nice. I lost touch with what Lloyd had done in the last 5 years or so.
God bless Lloyd Cole wherever in the world he is....
Love the Lloyd Cole. Play anything by this guy.
