Just the best. So uplifting to be exposed to all these diverse tunes throughout the day. So many of them just beg to have me interrupt my work and get up and dance (or at least sit up and dance - I'm in a wheelchair at present). This brings back a trip to Europe when I was 12, turning 13 while away, and my mother taught me to dance the Rumba box step. Well, she had actually taught me years earlier but, now that I was becoming a 'young lady', she let me join her in The Palmcourt, which was the lounge on the ocean liner, and danced with me, and let me stay up quite late, joining her while she enjoyed her Rum-and-Cokes. Super-good memories. Thanks, Bill. As always.

Cool story. Thank You for sharing it!

GREAT TUNE!!  I never heard of them prior to RP. Now, I have 4 of their tunes on "My Favorites" list!  That is why we come here.  Thanx RP!

I think there's a Hepcat song with that horn riff.
Perfect.

I don't know what these guys are saying, but I'm picking up what they are laying down!
This reminds me of African Guitar Summit. They're a loose collective of excellent African musicians, based in Canada. I have most of their albums.
Great material, just like this track!

I think it's a chile that's served at a landing at the top of a staircase.
Love the lead’s voice wiggles! :-)
Great song!  Nice addition to RP
Hype'd, maybe for a special moment in space & time.
Don't know why, but I like this. {#Dancingbanana}

Great stuff!!!
Ndongo Daara, literally “children of the streets”. That's all I can find as far as the lyrics of this song are concerned.

That should be "estupido".

Real groovy brothers! Keep it shakin'!
Horrible!
I'm sure I've said it before but this is a great backyard post-lawn-mowing beer album.

The cover art is cool too.

Since when do they play West African pop music in Mexican restaurants? You were probably thinking of Senegalese nightclubs, but confused the two. It's an easy mistake to make for an American, which I can only assume you are.

Do not let morons like this ruin your opinion of ALL Americans . . . . PLEASE!
:)

Ok girl, but it's REALLY HARD. Anyway, I'm trying..
Nice tune

Very nice :)
...senegalese nightclubs do make the most awesome burritos on the continent, you know... ...in all sincerity, from the time i spent living in the caribbean, one could really hear the intersection between afropop and latin american music...

I really dig this style of guitar. I suppose the rating is so low because the vocals are somewhat inaccessible. Maybe some King Sunny Ade Bill?

This is a perfect example of why to listen to RP and not to trad FM, what great track

A friend of mine got his doctorate detailing the music coming out of Ghana since the British pulled out some time ago. Thanks for the info Scott! Sounds like salsa or some other spanish/caribbean influence, and even a little bit of ska horns in there! I think that it is fascinating that this music would come out of Africa when I am leading myself to believe that it is caribbean/central american! The things that you learn on RP! I like the song!
love it! takes me back to the genuinely FANTASTIC music scene in urban West Africa!!
There's are several reasons why my SAT radio (sorry Bill - can't get you in the jalopy! :( ) is set quite often to the African music channel - this song is one of them. Joyous, reflective, evocative, multi-dimensional - African song is all that and more. - Riff

to those who don't like it, go back to FM. :) As for me, this is one of my all-time faves!! There is some serious quality music that comes out of Senegal. Youssou N'Dour, Baaba Maal, Orchestra Baobab and many others. Take a chance on some of it you may find that you like it. :grouphug.gif:

Very well done. Blends well with the segue from REM's "The Outsiders" Youssou doesn't need any advice about singing from anyone listening here, that's for sure.
I like it. Very musical. . .
Eclectic means "all kinds of styles". So why not these Senegalese Orchestre Baobab. I saw them this summer at a folk festival along with other bands like Starsailor, Mintzkov Luna, Suns of Arqa, ... Now that's what I would call eclectic. Keep up the good work, RP.

According to the writeup on Amazon, the group is from Senegal, so West African it is. I'd like to hear something else from them here. Maybe I should see if there's something else in the playlist. ;)
Wow, these guys rock my socks off. I'm guessing they're from Africa, but the vocals and bass are reminiscent of Latin Jazz...so delightful. I can't help but move in my seat.
Although I like to hear music from a variety of ethnic origins, this song just rubs the wrong way for me. The playing is OK, I guess, but the singing drives me to the mute button faster than hearing William Hung cranked up to 10...or 11, for that matter. (C'mon Youssou, pick a melody and stick with it for a few seconds.)

you're obviously not familiar with firearms - oldslabsides is a nickname for the colt model 1911 pistol; my personnal fav....as far as my ratio of positive to negative posts goes, i don't keep track, but i do post positive stuff on stuff i like, of which i do hear a lot here, perhaps the problem is that your musical taste is quite a bit different than mine, therefore you don't see my positives, i dunno...and i've had my nap this afternoon, thank you
