This whole album is like a remake of Healing without the spark of life. It's certainly not as guitar oriented as most of his work. I think that the RP crowd (since I stereotype them as older) would totally love the Nearly Human and Second Wind period, as well as selected tracks from Todd or AWATS. I'm totally surprised that his whole catalog, basically, over the last 30 years, is completely unrepresented. Todd, like Yes, embodies the idea of eclectic & intelligent music.
I agree. This is a little disappointing for me knowing that Todd and Utopia have scads of primo music worthy of RP. My mission in the following months is to upload some choice TR.
What a turd of a song! I can't believe this ever made it out of the review channel.
This is a joke, right?
If it hadn't been for his vocals, I would NEVER have guessed this to be TR, either. I kept looking back at "Now Playing", expecting it to update any minute. "This CAN'T be Todd" I said to myself. Hmmmm.

Yup.... I'm nodding my head in time with the beat right now.. How did this make the playlist?
Some advice, Todd: strike this one from your resume.

Is the rest of Liars similar to this? Yuk. I own every TR and Utopia album from Runt (1970) to No World Order (1993), but this track isn't worth playing (or hearing) again. The TR/Utopia catalog has dozens of excellent tracks, but won't hear most of them on the radio (including RP, I guess?). Most TR fans were introduced to his best stuff by other TR fans. Oh, those turntable days...
God Said and Soul Brother aren't bad. Haven't a clue what went into B or R picking this one.
Whom ever selects the TR music over at RP is completely ignorant on Todd Rundgren. The guy has so many great songs and they never play any of them. The only thing they play is Bang the F in drum, his worst song ever. Truth is a pass.....
gotta toss in my extreme thumbs down fer this'un
Well, ah, er, hmm --- anyway, Todd is still God (occasional setbacks notwithstanding) --Shari
Evreeebodddee! Deeeessscooo! To me, it kind of evokes the rest of the romantic type he put out in the 70s, back when we were a little more innocent. I kinda like it. Heard another cut off of Liar on KGSR locally, and it was pretty good. Nothing like this.
Yeah..... This is like someting from an SNL Evening At tThe Roxbury skit.
I dunno, I kinda like this track (stands ready to weather the beatings sure to come...) :fight.gif:
I am getting very very dizzy.. please stop the ride........ :verysorry:
This song makes me dizzy. And not in a good way either.
um,no um,not not even ghey

I respect TR for who he is and his body of work - but My God this is just terrible....sounds like it is from the worst of the eighties......but this is new? :verysorry: :verysorry:
Ditto. I feel like I'm about to have a seizure when this track comes on.
Ghey
damn. guess this ones gonna get the ole' heave hoe
i'm going to have to go with the general consensus here... eeeeeeewwwww.

Sucko Barfo Yukky Poo!
this song came on and my brain just shut down and i just staired at the screen like i was 150 lbs of chewed bubble gum then it ended and i was reactivated. now i just feel violated......and my shirts untucked and i think i was tucked!!!!!
This song is horrid!
Someone else said that RP was just playing bad rundgren - I agree. This was one of his weaker albums. :(

Glad you checked it out. I'm not sure what was available on the clips, but you really have to listen to more than the Todd songs that received air play.
Thanks for the follow up Steeler. I took another trip back to the well. While it's hard to judge an artist by their 30 second B&H clips, it confirmed much of what I thought. Well, not exactly. There is a lot of nice music that I missed because there was already enough TR all around us w/o scoping more out. Still, even if it's very nice, it doesn't feel ground breaking - e.g. Sex Pistols isn't nice, but they changed the face of rock music. In all events, after your input, I feel like I can enjoy some of my old favorite TR tunes w/o embarrassment. Thanks!

I have hand out too many "1"s on RP, but this certainly qualified. Following your tip I ckd out AMG. Surprisinngly, they hand out several five stars to TR albums. Having avoided TR much of my adult life I listened to clips on B&N. I'll admit, there was at least one sentimental favorite, but "Hello It's Me" is just the kind of song I tune into RP to avoid. It plays in every coffee shop and elevator. There may be more to TR, but there's a price to pay for writing music that appeals to the lowest common demoninator. It's hard to take any of TR's music seriously.
Glad you checked it out. I'm not sure what was available on the clips, but you really have to listen to more than the Todd songs that received air play. Those, almost uniformly, are among his least works. You really need to listen to 3 albums: A Wizard A True Star; Something//Anything; and Todd. Most people know Todd only through his ballads: We've Gotta Get You a Woman; Hello It's Me; or the other radio song, Bang on the Drum All Day. Those songs do not even begin to do him justice. Believe me, this is not a guy who has tried to appeal to the lowest common denominator; if he had chosen to just make money, he would have stuck to ballads like Hello Its Me. At least check out the song Just One Victory. Then let me know. Cheers. P.S. Any of the Utopia albums show yet another side; well, at least the first five Utopia albums. Sample the first one, Todd Rundgren's Utopia --it's like fusion. You may not like it, but I don't think you'll stick with your comment that he is trying to appeal to the lowest common denominator!

I know!! thats why I was more surprised that this album just came out in march. retro techno (is there such a thing?). strange. the amg review has got me interested.

I've never been subjected to Todd. :-k it's got an electronica feeling to it. never in my life would have guessed this to be him.
Todd on speed,. 8O
i really hope nobody comes into the office and catches me listening to this

I refrained from commenting until I heard this one twice. Upon hearing it a second time I think I'll stick with my first impression. This is just not a very good song.
I was a pretty big Todd freak back in the day. This is not the Todd you should be playing. Try anything from either Something, Anything or A Wizard, A True Star. The man played pretty much all the instruments on the former (or was it the latter). His stuff with Utopia was pretty good, too. But this does not do him or his music justice.
Being a die-hard fan since Runt, ..I've come to the conclusion Rundgren seldom puts out a great album, but he always manages to pepper albums with great writing and brilliant recordings. This isn't one of them.
Thanks for playing this... didn't realize a new disc was out. TR has a deep and impressive catalog, including the Utopia work, from a career that goes back to the late 60s.... much of which is RP worthy. Please do play more.
This sounds dated...
good lord, what is this?
Probably just my mood of the moment, but...um-- OW.

Something/Anything is the only one of those I own. It's pretty good. A two CD retrospective came out a year or so ago. Very good. He's put out a lot of really good stuff.
Todd is GOD!
