Uh, I think is is about security cameras at casions, keeping an eye (in the sky) on players so they don't cheat. Obviusly there is much allegory going on about wider philosopical issues. The original album title is Turn of a Friendly Card, and deals with the concepts of gambling and chance.

This young lady needs her own material. Some original stuff ... otherwise she'll never be taken really seriously.. I was sorta zoning.. and her voice came through before her lyrics and I realized this chick with a truly awesome voice was singing a song I should recoginize.. now I'm gonna make it a two errand trip downtown tomorra..  one more to buy this album  I like the hardcopy...

There are not many songs that Jonatha Brooke does that I dislike. I think I like the APP version better. This is an interesting interpretation. But I think it would get old fast.

I played this song (in a style more like the Alan Parsons version) 6 nights a week, for many months, in a cover band many years ago. Liked it then, like it now. This version works for me, too.

I'm in the minority, it would seem, but I really like this. The first time I heard it on RP, I was kind of half listening, and thought, hey, don't I like this song? Yeah, I think I kind of remember it, but wasn't it kind of a guilty pleasure? It was some overdone early 80's track, with lotsa keyboards, right? So what's up with this? It's intimate and timeless. I certainly don't mean to diss APP. "Eye in the Sky" is a great song, with really intriguing lyrics. But I think Brooke's take on it is haunting, a great update and a nice compliment to the original. I enjoy the original even more than I had because Brooke's version caused me to consider the song beyond the superficial groove.

Maybe this song spoke to her and that's why she felt compelled to record it. I have to admit, back a few years ago, APP spoke to me. The group spoke to my graduating class in that they chose an APP song so that it will always haunt us a reunions or remind us of those gawdawful days when we hear it.........other than that, APP was interesting. I am interested enough in JB's voice to check out the other offerings as suggested by others here.

Agreed that APP does it better, still it's good to hear it done differently. APP tends to be a pretty heavily produced sound. Still, this song works almost as well with a minimalist approach. I'm not sure her voice is the best to do this song. She reminds me a little of Alanis M. It gets a 6.

Ok....if I was drunk and in some cowboy bar then I may consider this minutely acceptable, but please......don't butcher up a beautiful song, just because you like it. What is it with people wanting to do cover songs? They need to keep them in their own private collection. Wether or not they need a starting point for their singing. Case in point-this cat wailing one, and Guns & Roses "Live and let Die"

This is one the worst JB efforts to come down the pike, and I L-O-V-E Jonatha. Why she chose this loser track to cover, I'll never know. Her prior efforts are much, much more worthy, especially tracks off "10 Cent Wings" that feature Gerry Leonard (Bowie, et al.) on guitar. I encourage you to listen to other Jonatha tracks, especially pre-"Circus", to fully appreciate what she's all about.

To me, it's a shame that of the only two songs in RP's playlist, this has to be one of them. I'm a big fan of Jonatha Brooke's songs. HER songs. My biggest disappointment with her last album was the inclusion of three covers, one of which was this song. It's not a terrible song to cover, but I think she does her original songs so much better than she does covers.

I am a die-hard AP fan, and this was one of my favorite albums back in the day. I can't shake away from the original mix and settle in to enjoy this version. Sorry, some things just shouldn't be covered. It's a shame, because she seems to have a decent voice.

Not thrilled by this version. I saw Jonatha in Woodstock recently and was really not impressed. I like her earlier stuff but this album seems a little bit too commercial.

The case of Jonatha Brooke is one of the great mysteries of the world to me - she is an absolutely outstanding artist who has recorded some very original, beautiful, and accessible music. She is fantastic in concert (saw her at the Birchmere in Alexandria, VA). And yet, she labors in obscurity. Why? The least we could do is get her some more airtime at RP, where she is a perfect fit.

When I heard that she did this cover (as well as James Taylor's "Fire and Rain") on her new album, I was skeptical to say the least. But she pulled it off. Jonatha Brooke is one of the only singer/songwriters that is able to give me goosebumps just by listening to her stuff. This song is one of them. Many on her Live album do that as well-- West Point, Always, Annie... all amazing songs. If you don't have this album, buy it-- it is solid, top to bottom.
