Great song, great band. I had drifted away from RP for a while, and came back when I saw an online comment about the station. My account was still there, from 2005 and the WinAmp days.
So nice on my senses , most enjoyable song

Actually, Innocence Mission is from Lancaster, PA. Husband and wife Don and Karen Peris are graduates of Lancaster Catholic High School and still reside here. I was a fan before I relocated to the area and was surprised to find that they were locals.
Always a pleasure to hear them on Radio Paradise.

I heard the first few bars of the song and I immediately thought "80s song", don't know exactly what it is; could be the stratocaster-ish clean sound with some kind of chorus/flange going on; sounds "transparent", reminds me a lot of the sound Robert Plant got on Big Log.

Among my favorite Innocence Mission tracks... Karen Peris has one of the greatest voices ever recorded... husband is a master of a hypnotic trance-like guitar sound that I never tire of... very special to see live

Actually, this is off the first album released by The Innocence Mission, back in 1989. Self-titled. The album art/title listed above is wrong. The Innocence Mission's sound has changed a lot since this album was released -- today it sounds much more 70s-ish and much less 80s-ish! -- but worth picking up if you like the sound of this tune.

I'm wondering why so many people want to find comparisons with other female singers for this group - none of which I really agree with anyway. I thought we were all listening to RP because we didn't like to categorize our music and cram every artist into a nice comfortable box. Must be an inherent human trait.

First heard of IM years ago when I saw them open for 10,000 Maniacs at a small venue in West Philadelphia many, many years ago and have enjoyed them ever since. It was on my birthday, and what a memorable birthday concert that was!
First heard IM when living in South Carolina in '89-'90. Their eponymous album "The Innocence Mission" formed a sort of soundtrack for a portion of my life. I moved back to PA in 1999 to Lancaster County and found myself living in the same township as IM. My son attended the same high school as the members of the group, Lancaster Catholic.
I saw them in a local club, the Chameleon, a few years ago and they were excellent. Karen Peris is an excellent lyricist and "Birds of My Neighborhood" is a work of art (IMHO).
Don and Karen are uber-Catholics and I understand they sing in the choir of their local church.
I hope to meet these folks some day.
Really nice to hear Innocence Mission on RP, this song always makes me feel good and takes me down memory lane.

This is kinda funny. I first heard Innocence Mission a loooong time ago, and just like the other poster below, I bought their first, self-titled album, after hearing Black Sheep Wall. I really loved the first two albums. One of the very few recordings that I have been able to listen to over and over (I need stuff like Radio Paradise, because I get tired very quickly of listening to the same thing).
Kinda lost track of them after that, so it's very strange to see comments like this, expressing how they like the current stuff (which I don't know), but not the older songs.
This isn't on "Now the Day is Over" which I have in my hand. Unless there's a Japanese import?

I don't think this is on "Now the Day Is Over." This sounds like older innocence mission material.

I was doing something online, and this came on, and it stopped me in my tracks... I turned into somewhere that echoed the pain and longing of a time i had put so far behind me. Oh it was bittersweet in the way that it broke down my walls, to say, yes, you are still alive, and you do ache...
i think as women grow older, we begin to accept the cages that we have built and live behind the walls more easily, but it is a form of dieing... where Clear to you, struck me across the face, and made me know that i could weep again.
Yeah! This brought good memories! It was one of my favorite albums / groups when it came out, and has remained one of my best liked ones throughout the years (The original one, I mean).
Nice to hear it here. It's one of the very few places where I've heard it outside my own home.

While, I like their newer stuff quite a bit, and own several of their recent albums, it seems I don't care for their earlier stuff.. I didn't even recognize that it was them...

The band is still around, BTW, and RP does play newer stuff, including When Mac Was Swimming from their latest. Check out the album Birds of our Neighborhood if you like them. Their newer stuff is a bit more acoustic sounding and had lost the 80's over-production sound.
Well I love the group's name--Innocence Mission. It joins Joy Division, Thievery Corporation, Massive Attack, Durutti Column and some others from the playlist tonight, in that regard.
And the tune was fun. Interesting vocals.

Here, the girl's voice sounds like it could allllmost explode on you.

Anyways, I think this is just a bit too dull for me. (The instrumental bridge is kinda sexy, though...)

Wonderful song. Not my favorite IM song, but fits in great with the current RP set (David Gray, Hem) and works really well as a mood piece.
Karen Peris tends to sing about things the rest of us try to forget, and makes them sound sweet. If you liked Natalie Merchant's "Ophelia" album, Karen is the voice you heard on that work.

My first reaction was to hear Joni Mitchell's songwriting and band with Cyndi Lauper and Toni Childs' vocals. Looking them up on AMG, I was 1/3 right...they did work with Joni.
