Hours of hiding, spent apart
The wall was all we'd share
About the closest you could get
About all I would bear

Don't tell me all the things I wasn't
Could have made this big a difference
To all the things you are

Years of listening, taking in
To one day take away
From all the guilt and pity
I could barely keep at bay

Don't tell me all the things I wasn't
Could have made this big a difference
To all the things you are

Time apart I've realized
The names the most we share
Unlike you, there's no way
I could spend forever there

Don't tell me all the things I wasn't
Would have made this big a difference
To all the things you are

Hey Bill, here's a better Wikipedia link for this band:

CanCon!
Agreed. Sounds like one of the weaker Nash efforts from CSN. Or one of the many CSN wannabes. Wait, maybe that's what they are, just 35 years too late.

No.
No.
Not even a little bit.

Sounds more like Ambrosia meets Al Stewart.

I remember a tune by them titled "Solid Ground"...
It sounds like my iPod...love this one...Cockburn then this one...love the Canadien content...

Wistful song from the North, where Winter is Always Coming BTW :)

Yeah, cause when I pay $70 to see a band, what I really want is to hear the drunk assholes around me singing.
Dreamy wonder
Reminds me of "Toulouse Street." Good segue with Neko Case's "Things That Scare Me."
F.Y.I. they're touring again!

Beautiful Guitar!!!
1989 and I still remember the lyrics!!

This is just a tiny, perfect gem of a song.  In that way it reminds me of Suzanne Vega's "Blood Sings".

This has been one of my faves for years...
If this were a current band, I see this as barely a 4.  But 1989!!  Nice work.  Extreme had a few songs comparable.  I give it a 6.  There is something to be said for critical appreciation within the context in which it was produced.

The Beatles, for example ; )
I bought the CD based on this song.  Unfortunately, most of the CD is basura.
Yeah, me too! Just had this conversation with my BF this week lol! I never realized this band was fairly currrent, not from 60/70s.

Wow...what a great tune. That came outta nowhere! Does that ever take me back.

Wow, this is an oldie but a goodie.

What a wonderful morning surprise.
The grapes are sour and I sense no wrath.

I COMPLETELY agree.

These guys were the "It" band for a few years back in the late 80's early 90's in Vancouver ... there was huge hopes for them ... they sort of never really took off though. I believe one went off to work for Network records, another went off to play for Sarah (keyboards I believe) ... All the same they captured that folkie hippie vibe that was Vancouver back then Grapes of Wrath, 54-40, Sons of Freedom, Spirit of the West ... Ahh those were the days ... to be young and stupid living in the Wet Coast

They're back together playing.  I saw them this past weekend play the Breakoutwest festival in Kelowna BC: www.breakoutwest.ca

This tune is fabulous. I can't compare it to anything else. {#Good-vibes}

Agreed!

I saw Kevin Kane, guitarist for GOW, at a small venue a couple weeks ago. Don't pass up a oppurtunity to see this gifted singer songwriter. Great crowd interaction.
Bumped into the Hoopers in a mall in Kelowna, BC on a high school band trip in the early eighties when they were part of the local BC punk rock scene as Gentlemen of Horror. GoW is a little more playable on RP. Seems like such a long time ago.

Good memories for me, too. I remember seeing these guys as Luv Affair on Seymour Street in the 80s. Got my car towed that night, so it was a bit of a drag when I came out, but a great show.

Lots of memories from that place...

Great song.

These guys should have gone farther. They had some very well written songs.

Never heard of these guys before, but I really like this after my first listen to it. I'll have to check it out.

Yes indeed, and that's when it really was the spirit of radio back when it really had an 'edge". {#Wink}

I'm amazed how much really good Canadian stuff from the '80's Bill and Rebecca play here and wonder if they listened to CFNY back in the day.

They had some success in Vancouver. I saw a virtually unknown Sarah McLachlan open for them in a tiny theatre circa 1989. (. . . and the rest is history . . .)

I thought this was a gag song- like Spinal Tap's version of  'Cups and Cakes'.
Oh man ! all of a sudden I have acne and hair and Im driving my 68 Impala to pick up my date ... I have my fluevog shoes on, trench coat and enough Polo on to sink a small ship.

Youth is wasted on the young :)
a great song by a long forgotten Canadian band. one of their best songs! thanks for taking me back in time Bill!
So, back about 20 years ago or so, I helped a friend move. He had this absolutely hideous ceiling light fixture that was essentially a gigantic cluster of plastic grapes. It was hideous, even for the 80's. I called it the grapes of wrath. I will forever think of that, regardless of what context "grapes of wrath" comes up in.
Years after they disbanded, I was talking to one of the band members on his set break from a show at the Railway Club in Vancouver (great show, great venue, BTW). I told him that in university my girlfriend and I used to frequently "get busy" listening to Grapes of Wrath albums. Without batting an eye, he deadpans back "Well I'm glad it worked for you". Classic!
Reminds me of my Grade 12 Year. Just an incredible song: 9

I listen to them from way back. Love "Backward Town". I even uploaded it quite a few back... it went nowhere.
I LOVE this song
I don't know why..but...meh.

I was at EXPO 86!! LOL. It's funny to see the Expo benches around various spots in Vancouver...

The Donovan reference makes sense --- great melody trumps wimpiness. According to my jukebox the song runs 2.19.
Arf! Quit singing! The music is decent - no need to ruin it!
This is a great song from a great band - what a lovely surprise to hear it on RP! Kudos and thanks!

I am liking this. Never heard of them. Is it me, or was that song really short?
whenI was a kid I was in a band called "The Wrath of Grapes"
I saw these guys play in Edmonton back around '86...they sat on the stage in bare feet and played, very hippy-trippy neo-Donovan types...
Lovely

18 7s, 17 8s, 18 9s. Pretty good rating for a song that Bill plays only 5 times a year! Too bad I'm at work and can't hear it!
Thank you for playing this!
fun little guitar riff. I like it
WOW !!! i haven't heard this one in awhile - takes me back to college. Thanks for playing the obscure stuff RP This is my favorite of the GRAPES albums. THESE DAYS is also good but songwriting is better here.
Wow! I loved the album These Days, but it didn't occur to me until this very moment to check out their other stuff. I shall be scouring the used record shops this week, methinks.
This takes me back to the University days. Good Canadian band from Kelowna, BC. Nice surprise and nice to hear. Thanks RP.
Whoa. 10/10
WOW! What an incredible surprise to hear this on here! Miss this band!
Another great band from North of the border. This brings me back to my days of listening to CFNY out of Toronto. A great station that is no longer. I wish I had seen these guys when they were still together.

Sadly this band is no longer with us. I miss those Beatlesque melodies.
Gorgeous song--on my short list of LRC favorites--glad to see it make it to the big time.
