(When the darkness falls like a curtain
And the night ahead is a long and uncertain dream
Beyond the loss and the hope of redemption)

At the broken heart of the city
Where the hollow light of day never reaches in
A man can break down and fall into pieces
He will fall asleep like a baby
And the unforgiving arms of the cradle
Rock as hard as the face of the city pavement
Hide your eyes
Hide your eyes

He can see the face of a lover
In the lonely face of the angel above him
Carved into the stone that is changing around him
He can feel her breathing inside him
And the unforgiving visions deny him
Life can only be what a man can make it
Hide your eyes
Hide your eyes

Sunday morning
Yellow sky
The sun is floating diamond high
Hours passing
A baby cries
In the arms of someone you imagine
Close your eyes
This is your lullaby
Close your eyes
This is your lullaby

He can feel his skin like a prison
Like a dying cage he struggles to live inside
He tries to call out but nobody hears him
At the ragged edge of the silence
In the calm that only comes with the violent sleep
Inside the heart and the hope of redemption
Hide your eyes
Hide your eyes

In the heart of someone you imagine
Close your eyes
This is your lullaby
Close your eyes
This is your lullaby

(Down, down, down
Would the fall never come to an end?
Wonder how many miles I've fallen
Must be somewhere near the centre of the earth
How funny it will seem to come out among the people
Who walk with their heads downwards
Down, down, down
Down, down, down
Would the fall never come to an end?)

I was working happily... till I needed to say... wow this sucks!
Nope...still a 1. 0 if I could.
...definitely interesting; not sure what i make of it...
Quote from my wife "He (Bill) has been playin' a lot a gay music lately". This song is among them.
wow, this one really sucks. it should say "Close your ears" instead of "Close your eyes."
Good! very Good!
Bad. Very Bad.

After this band was dropped by Sony they broke up and briefly became the November Project and put out a three song disk. That didn't work out and they ended up becoming October Project again, without Mary Fahl, and without any of the magic from the first album. The first album is one of my favorite albums of all time. If you can get it, it is well worth a listen.
Err, I'm kind of glad they broke up.

alps pop?
6/10 - Pretty good.
Doesn't do it for me. Also, any song that contains lyrics about "babies crying" automatically lose a point.
Orgasmic rush! OP is so-o-o beautiful in sound and lyrics!
This band and "Live" are probably my most favorite bands of all time. Desert island discs, for sure! *sigh*
The first album was much better, but this is a pretty good record.
Feeling that this could grow to a 9. Very, very nice song, great bass work too.

Kind of a Judy Collins sounding voice. But WAY cooler.
I like this version but I've heard it live with both the November Project and OP III line ups. Both seem better than the album. Saw OP III a couple years ago at club passim in Cambridge. Great concert and great sound. Some people may miss Mary Fahl but the line up that night was outstanding! Glad we made the trip.

For me the quintessential October Project song is "Bury my Lovely" from their first album. It really shows off Mary Fahl's vocals and their excellent instrumentation. (Unfortunately I don't have a copy to upload but hopefully RP has it somewhere? HINT, HINT...) WXPN, the excellent UPenn station here in Philly gave them lots of support when that album came out and they developed a nice following here before they broke up. (Yes, I know they've re-formed but without Mary Fahl's vocals, it isn't really OP, is it? IMHO.)
October Project was founded by three college classmates, two of whom married and write the songs (Julie Flanders and Emil Adler). Mary Fahl's voice developed quite a bit through working with Emil and Marina Belica, who mainly sang harmonies and second lead on the first two albums, so if you like Fahl's voice tip your hat to her former bandmates. I'm an OP fan; the music and lyrics are quite substantial, especially in comparison to most popular music. Investigate the time signatures on their music and you may be surprised at the complex rhythms that Emil uses. Impressive stuff.

Ahh! Just what I needed! I am an absolute fanatic fan of OP! *edit* Nov 16, 06 I always turn the volume w-a-a-y up when October Project comes on, which is not nearly enough for my taste. Their lyrics are amazing... Though at first listen they may appear to be mere love songs, listen closely, they are songs sung to the Beloved, the Soul. passionate and inspiring. Lovely.
What a great group! And what a shame they are no more (with Mary Fahl anyway). This second album I find a little better than the first. The songs are stronger overall. But both are first rate regardless.
Reminds me of yodeling.
Aye, Mary, where have ye gone? Likeable, anyway. But I'm an OctProj phreak.

Awesome. I'm a huge fan of October Project.
Yea, me two, love 'em! ... OO that harp! ...
I like atonal, modal music, and I don't even need resolution... but ouch?
Awesome. I'm a huge fan of October Project.
Just a little too repetitive repetitive.
A fascinating song from ANOTHER group I never heard of before. Thanks again, Bill.
Jawohl, es geht ganz gut mit alles dass ich tun..... yummmm! ^^ to those who don't like this you get >.<
Oh cool, October Project!!! Love them love them love them.
Mary Fahl could mutter insults in German into my ear and I'd swoon. What a voice!
Is it me, or is the sound of this group the music one hates to love? I light up every time I hear them played, yet there are only a few trusted friends I would turn on to this due the heavy syrup factor.
OH MY GOD. This confirms that Bill is a true kindred spirit. I've been waiting to hear October Project on RP, and he plays one of my favorite songs ever. Anyone know what these musicians are up to these days? So sad they broke up.
Saw them live at a tiny club in Harvard Square in Cambridge MA. Awesome show, what a beautiful voice Marina Belica has, and what amazing lyrics in many of their songs. Paths of Desire is my favorite, but I don't dislike any of their stuff.

I third that. Ick.
Ahhh!!! So wonderful to hear October Project once again! Please... many, many more times. Tehy have, on their two albums, a wonderful selection to listen to.

my god, she sounds like Annie Lennox!
Hey, my wife was big into the October Project when we first met. I learned to enjoy this CD as well. Nice reminder, still sounds good.
I kept thinking my cell phone was ringing.
Yeah, not a fan of this.
I had never heard Oct Proj before. Thanks RP. Mary is playing my town tomorrow; think I will go check her out.
What a nice song, from a very talented group. Can't believe it's almost 10 years old... -dinsey
I'm hearing an Annie Lennox sound.
Auch! This one's pretty horrible. I give it a 2.
How good is it to hear October Project on RP? MUCHO good. But now I've got to go dig out the CD...where did I leave it? Maybe it's still in the CD player...
I can't believe this - I actually won tickets to see and meet them after the show at some small campus auditorium in Grand Rapids, Michigan ages ago - hadn't even thought of them in ages! This just made my night.
I am a true-blue died in the wool October Project fan... awesome music, and the lyrics, while on the surface seeming to be typical love songs, are in actuality songs to the Soul. A wonderful expression of spirituality with contempo-music. More OP on RP!

Mary Fahl put out a solo disc within the last year or two - not near as good as this though. One of those cases where the sum equals more than the parts. s
They put out two great albums with the original members, then Sony dropped them. They are back together now, but without Mary Fahl they don't have the same magic. You can check out their new group at www.octoberproject.net. The two main members actually started The November Project a few years ago, but it flopped.

Oh YES! I always did think they'd have an appreciative audience here. Are they even still together? I saw them back in 1995.
