Sittin' here with me and mine, all wrapped up in a bottle of wine
Little we can do... we gon' see it thru somehow
So... now are you ready to go? my lady
I been waitin' on the boat here I been waitin' so long
"Can he see me? does he feel me? does he know me at all?"
"Does it shiver? always deliver? does it know me at all?"
Bang! Bang! goes the night, all wrapped up in the firelight
Don't "rock bottom", just listen, just slow down
So... now are you ready to go, my lady?
I been waitin' on the boat here, I been waitin' so long...

GREAT! I never heard of them before! Thank You RP!
Brilliant!  A fab song from one of my favourite bands.  Needs repeat listens but never gets old.   Live version even better!

Your question can be answered in a fairly straightforward matter if it's mathematical, and in a much more convoluted fashion if it refers to the psychology of human preferences.
I suspect, however, that you're actually wondering why more RP listeners don't have a musical taste similar to yours.  Have fun with that musing, if that's the case.

Love this song so much, and the album.  This one sounds best LOUD.
at the beginning of this song, I thought "I think I'll give it a miss"

but I didn't and by the end of this song I decided to say I dig this song and I've given it a 10.

I LIKE THIS so much better than "Gideon" which in my opinion is overplayed here. Every element of this song is at the JAMMING level
These guys stole the show at the Lockn Festival in Virginia this month.  This is saying a lot since Phish, Gary Clark Jr., Ween, Tedeschi Trucks, and many others (who were all excellent) were in attendance.
6.1 rating? How is that possible? A solid 8 or 9 from me..

This tune is pretty good.

I find their earlier work much more inventive and enjoyable.   Their album "Z" a masterpiece but after that I was really disappointed with the turn that their music took.  I appreciate bands changing sounds throughout the years - e.g., Beatles, R.E.M., U2 - but the direction MMJ went after "Z" was not to my liking.

Ah yes. This is from the Eternal Suckpile that we discussed earlier.

Always been my favorite MMJ tune.  Always in the mood to hear this song.

I don't know though, it's kind of growing on me (both this song and the band).

If i had a voice as off key and mediocre as this guy's I'd be whispering instead of bellowing.
My first thought was: "Fleet Foxes?"

This sucks...this what you do when you have Jumping Jack Flash stuck in your head and your guitar buddys are at the house sucking down beers, then you all start jamming, making it up as you go. You forgot the drugs man, the only way this stuff would sound good.
Lots of reverb to be sure, but still most excellent to be sure.

I will give this song a "1" every time it is played. I know it won't count, but I feel it necessary to ease my pain!
12:24 pm - My Morning Jacket - Mahgeetah 12:20 pm - Michelle Shocked - Secret to a Long Life 12:17 pm - Grant-Lee Phillips - Fountain Of Youth 12:07 pm - Mudcrutch - Crystal River I really hope a good song comes along soon to bail out this crappy set.
Would be interesting to see an "overall" band or musician rating . . . the vocals on this never do it for me
One of my favorites, thanks Bill.

this just went from 8 to 9.
Since they started up the road from me it's hard to take in just how big and well liked these guys are...I guess more Kentucky boys make good....
I love reading the comments when MMJ play. Some people vehemently hate them. Too bad. Jim James is an amazing talent and you don't know what you're missing.

Well, if you're going to judge rock music on singing "ability", you might as well throw out 75 percent of it. Good rock music (I distinguish it from soul, country, etc) largely has little to do with technically good singing. Think Lou Reed, Jonathan Richman, John Lydon, Nick Cave, Mark E. Smith.

I was looking for another word for annoying...but I found this definition that says it all: To disturb the peace of mind of (someone) especially by repeated disagreeable acts.

Well that's a bit extreme, but I do find this song a tad annoying (I think it's the shrill vocals).

I always rate songs on RP comparing them to songs the Bill wouldn't play on RP, so therefore the most bad songs played on this station only get a 5 or 6 to me. I can understand giving them 1s if rating them by comparing them to only songs played on RP then. Like I said though, I probably won't give something a 1 on this station until ICP or Jessica Simpson is played on it.

How can you rate songs by comparing them to songs that Bill wouldn't play? How do presume to know the mind of Bill? Are you psychic?

vandal wrote:
Its all subjective. I see the nouns that accompany a "1" rating, "Sucko-Barfo" as applying directly to this crap. MMJ is a good band, but the term "sucks" is totally applicable to this song. So a "1" seems a perfect fit. To give this garbage a "5" would be to say that I feel it is "Decent," which I do not. I pound the mute key the very pico-second I detect this cut.

I never understood how people can give music on RP a 1. I mean the worst song I heard on this station was a 5 at the lowest. I can understand if you don't like this song, but a 1 out of 10. If Bill starts jamming out Fallout Boy or My Chemical Romance maybe I will stoop down and give a 1 rating for once. But My Morning Jacket deserving a 1?????
This album is different than what I've heard, which is "Off the Record" from Z. That track gets Floydish at the end. Its not the country midwestern feel of this record.
Bill's playing MMJ again. What's the over/under on the time that it takes the haters to come out? 2 mins?
One thing that we can say say with certainty about MMJ is that their music polarizes people. I'd encourage you all to see them live. They will make you a fan.
I just got it. "My guitar" - in yokely dokely speak. YEEHAWWW GRANDMAWWW!

I thought this was a really bad REM song at first.
Its odd how some songs connect and don't connect. To me this is the song I want playing on the last sunny day in October as I drive into ... anything really. And no this doesn't mean into a tree or ditch to end the pain.
I've heard so many good things about this band - This wasn't one of them....

Jacket sounds great when he/they land on a melody. They sound average when they don't, especially with reverb cranked with nothing to really communicate.
why does he have to yell the song? Why can't he just sing it? This reverby-echoy-jaggly band is like nails on a chalkboard...
