The lyrics are pretty good but the tune is grating. I do like the pairing of deceptively sunshiney music with dark lyrics, as someone mentioned earlier is this band's thing. But this song, this tune, yeah, definitely grating.

Oops, I must admit I dont know the BF's lyrics very well. I probably missed out on some good points. I expect that they're similar to the Housemartin's "Happy hour", which is not actually "happy" at all, like most of that album. All quite "angry young man". Also, I've been meaning to upload "Reverend's revenge" for a long time, a very nice simple-happy-tune of "London 0, Hull 4". Just happens to be the only instrumental song.

...it's in the CD drive of my vehicle as I type, I loved the music this band produced, very British and very satirical, but there were some interesting dark themes explored in their lyrics, was happy to learn some time ago that Mr Heaton owns a bicycle shop in Hull England. …hopefully they still tour …anybody know?

This band are utterly dreadful and I can't understand why people like them so much. The songs are at best simplistic and at worst not as good as something a high school band might turn out. As bad as it gets really! The only time on RP I have wanted a zero rating.

I have been a long-time fan of The Beautiful South. 0898 is a superb album. The female singer on this album was called Briana Corrigan. She left and was replaced by Jacqui Abbot who featured on the cover version of 'Everybody's Talking'. She has since left and they now have Alison Wheeler. I'm much prefer the earlier stuff such as 'Welcome to..' 'Choke' and '0898', I'm not as keen on the more recent years as it's a bit country sounding for me. They have just released an album of covers, it's bizarre, there is a slow version of 'It's A Living Thing' and apparently there's a cover of You're the one That I Want' but I've yet to have the pleasure(?) of hearing that one! Saw them in '97 they were great and so were the supporting act The Lightning Seeds.
