Silver bird takes off in the night another's coming in
In every window a light as every night begins
One thing stays on my mind as I look back on the time
I guess it just couldn't last I feel its fading fast

Do you remember?
Do you surrender?
Do you remember how it feels?

If it all comes back on me, I will run and hide
Sometimes all you've got left is your empty pride
Nothing, nothing will ever be the same
Some of the best things fade, some of the worst remain
I can't turn back the tide
Or show you something inside
Or help you out when you fall
If I can help you at all

Do you remember?
Do you surrender?
Do you remember how it feels?

Do you remember?
Do you surrender?
Do you remember how it feels?

Good Tune!!
Sheer brilliance. <3

I don't remember this song back in the day. However, over the years I've become very familiar with it through RP.  A very groovy tune.

So cool to hear Greg Kihn again.  I loved his music back in the late 70s/early 80s.  Then he went in an overly pop (for me back then) direction, and I just gave up on him.  I never heard this one before, but I love it.  THIS is why I only listen to RP.

I saw him perform live in the 70s and 80s in San Francisco. Very good live show. For me this was his best song. Who remembers that he became a DJ on a radio station in San Jose?

I remember. I saw him live just a week or two before my daughter was born. I could feel the music in my enormous belly and I am sure my child could too, cause she was having a party in there. She will soon be 40.

You're right, there's nothing in it that dates it, no '80's keyboard, no synthetic drums... it really does sound pretty good.
Another nowhere song. Meh.
Although I do dig the guitar solo. Pretty dang sweet :)
Pretty shocked to hear this. I know Greg Kihn only from his radio hits from a few years before this song. This sounds a lot more sophisticated. Good song.

WXRT  -- I live in South Bend and wow XRT brings back memories.  are they still in a rock format?

This is very nice, I don't remember hearing this back in the day. What a shame.

Awesome, missed this one back in it's day.
Nice tunes to drink coffee to 8am this Sunday morning in Washington DC.

Thanks Bill!

Chicago's Fine Rock Station!
I lost on Jeopardy...Baby!
This is one of my favorite songs from the 80's.  Great melody, harmony and beat and yet so uncharacteristic for the Greg Kihn Band.  They really nailed it with this one, too bad they didn't have more songs of this caliber.
I saw them open for Blondie in Santa Cruz in 1980. Serviceable comes to mind, Not great, but better than just alright. Greg is still performing & was DJ-ing in San Jose, the last I heard. I think he played one of the summer time music on the beach things at the SC Boardwalk, that's the weird place between being a "has been" & still being a going concern. That's all I Kihn remember.

Unique sound to the region? But he was greatly appreciated and got a lot of local radio air-time.

Still a unique sound to him after 40 years.

Gets an 8

He was a big favorite here in Cleveland then as well.  All of his stuff got big airplay back when it was fresh.  There was a minor league circuit in the 70's and 80's anchored by the Cleveland Agora with outlets in Colorado and Texas and maybe San Diego-ish that hit particular regions and acts would rotate through them.  Michael Stanley is one of those acts that traveled this circuit.  Joe Walsh had a big influence with this group establishing the beach head in Colorado during his Rocky Mountain Way / Barnstorm phase.
Have always loved this song, so well crafted. Thank you, Greg!

....wait....so anyone who has rated this track is a philistine?

6.8 is a not too terrible average rating for a somewhat obscure (to U.S. ears) artist.  And I've helped the cause in increasing the rating; mine's at an 8.

I hear Nektar. Maybe Camel. Maybe Wishbone Ash.

Puns and all, I find this to be a driving track, good for working or working out, and I've rated it an 8.

Now, 4 tracks ago I commented that BillG had played a set of 7 of my 8s in a row, followed by a 9 and 7, and another 4 8s (and counting) so I'm going to consider this to be my favorite batch of tracks on RP in my 11ish years here.

Long Live RP!

I hear a similarity in the harmonies to Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young.  Is it a California sound?  Anyway I like it very much.

Remembered the name but had to look up the hits: "The Breakup Song (They Don't Write 'Em)" and "Jeopardy" (as in "Our Love's in Jeopardy" which Weird Al Yankovich turned into "I Lost on Jeopardy"). Maybe there were other notable ones; this is far better than anything else of his that I remember.

And yeah, I think it was The Greg Kihn Band. One of his albums was called "Kihnspiracy" which made me groan at the time.

Apparently the punning thing was based on some OCD issue: he kept doing it. One of the first albums from the Greg Kihn band was "Rockihnroll". And then...

From Allmusic.com:

He continued in a more commercial vein through the '80s with a series of pun-titled albums: Kihntinued (1982), Kihnspiracy (1983), Kihntageous (1984), and Citizen Kihn (1985).

Other albums include: "True Kihnfessions", "Kihnspicuous Taste", "Unkihntrollable", "Kihn of Hearts" and "Next of Kihn."

As Hogtownmike and Proclivities have noted, the design on many of the album covers is pretty cheesy.
Never tire of this one Bill!!!{#Bounce}
not to be confused with "remember the future" by Nektar

The live version includes a really cool "fade out".

Ok....this gets played immediately after "Le Vent Nous Portera". Am I right in hearing a great resemblance? Which came first?
I always loved this song... especially the very end.

The original album that this song is from, Next of Kihn, was quite good (it was their third album.)  They were a very popular San Francisco Bay Area club band in the 80s.
Sweet guitar solo.

Something about his voice made me click on through... It has an 80's almost hard rocker feel.
Hearing this is like receiving a gift.
Wow.  Haven't heard this song since the 80s.  Need to dust off the vinyl and listen to the rest of the album.
Great song!

I am so happy that Greg Kihn is still playing and being played. Something about him and my youth. I was at a concert in Edmonton at a terrible cement venue with my beautiful daughter, not yet born, and I swear she danced with me, Now her daughter dances. Thanks RP.

I do miss his DJ duties on KFOX, was nice to hear his inside stories about Rock-n-Roll from a survivor's perspective.
Excellent. His best.

Re: KFOG, KFOX... two years ago my last message to the PD at KFOG was that I was switching to RP. Haven't looked back.

He lost his morning show radio gig last month on KFOX.  KFOX decided to try and step into the shoes that KFOG left vacant when their current PD gutted the station and changed the format to safe corporate...  RIP KFOG

I don't recall when KBAY changed its call letters to KFOG, but it was at least by 1968. A buddy of mine—we were sophomores at USF—landed a gig as a nighttime DJ. At the time KFOG was an "easy listening" station, but a gig's a gig, right? At the top of every hour, he'd read the news which would always end with some bizarre Reuters story, like nude Sumo wrestlers frolicking in the fountains at the emperor's Imperial Palace. He told us later that he and the engineer would make up these wild stories to relieve the boredom and attribute them to Reuters, mostly because no one would think to check up on the revered British news service. Couldn't happen in the internet age.

You are so right. KFrOG bites the big one now. Even 10at10 is messed up. Annalisa was one of the last bits of goodness at KFOG before they gave her Kihn's job.

Oh, good song :-).
this song includes a bass sound near infra sound at the end!

Another alternate version is the single: When the album version started getting a bit of airplay, the decision was made to try to create an edited 45.  For better or worse, no one could come up with what they thought was an acceptable edit, so everyone went back into the studio to record a completely new shorter version.
I sortof remember the time I saw this band at a bar in Iowa City, and I'm pretty sure the dude is shorter than me.  Thanks for the memories

He had a bigger hit with "Jeopardy".  This song's not bad though.
Oh my - I do Remember - Next of Kihn - 1978. Bill plays so much of the vinyl that now sits in my parents house in NJ. Which is good, because I'm not about to go across the country to go fetch it.

Same show!  I was amazed how much real estate Jagger covered that night. Never stopped moving all night; great energy.

LOVELY guitar work!
Keen.

I thought this particular GK tune might have more general appeal than it seems to by the overall rating. Seems to me to have withstood the test of time, though. Tasteful guitar fills, nice fingerpicking melody, no weird 80's production techniques (or am I now missing them? Yikes!). Oh, well.
Last time I heard this song was echoing down Del Playa in Isla Vista (UCSB campus) in 1986. Ahh the memories. Thanks!
Great set Bill.
Had a heap of dishes from an early dinner-party and got through them in no time with the energy of the set following  Joan Armatrading's track which was accompanied by a very nice German off-sweet white.
MMM.hmmm.

Okay - I wondered if time had been good to him, so I did a little checking.  He's put on pounds, and his voice has a little gravel in it, but I'm listening to a song called "Noa, Noa" and he still has the chops. I think he could make a serious comeback, if he hasn't already.  I still think "The Breakup Song" and "Jeopardy" are two of the worst songs he could have ever done. LOTS better material out there, and his current stuff is quite good.

Just my opinion. That and two dollars would get you a Starbucks grande low-fat latte.

I'm sorta floored - the only song I'd ever heard from him was "The Breakup Song."  This was an unexpected pleasure - I'd heard it in random venues, but never knew who did it.

Wow.  I love it. Thank goodness Greg Kihn is more than just a one-hit wonder. {#Sunny}
I like his voice—-did not like all of the bad puns.
