When you grow up
Livin' like a good boy oughta
And your mama
Takes a shine to her best son
Something different
All the girls they seem to like you
Cause you're handsome
Like to talk and a whole lot of fun

But now your girl's gone a missin'
And your house has got an empty bed
The folks'll wonder 'bout the wedding
They won't listen to a word you said

(Chorus)
Gonna take your mama out all night
Yeah we'll show her what it's all about
We'll get her jacked up on some cheap champagne
We'll let the good times all roll out
And if the music ain't good, well it's just too bad
We're gonna sing along no matter what
Because the dancers don't mind at the New Orleans
If you tip 'em and they make a cut

Do it
Take your mama out all night
So she'll have no doubt
That we're doing ALL the best we can
We're gonna do it
Take your mama out all night
You can stay up late
'cause baby you're a full grown man

It's a struggle
Livin' like a good boy oughta
In the summer
Watchin' all the girls pass by
When your mama
Heard the way that you'd been talking
I tried to tell you
That all she'd wanna do is cry

Now we end up takin' the long way home
Lookin' overdressed wearin' buckets of stale cologne
It's so hard to see streets on a country road
When your glasses in the garbage
And your Continental's just been towed

(Repeat Chorus x2)

Don't care who this emulates artist-wise.  It really rocks.  Solid 8 from this old rocker.
LMAO! Yeah, I thought this was Elton too. Hmm, I think I'm liking this...

Yep, first thing I thought was, "Hey, it's Elton!"  Very cool, though.

Per Wiki...

Scissor Sisters have performed around the world and have become well-recognized for their controversial and transgressive live performances. They have also collaborated with a number of other well-known pop musicians, including Elton John and Kylie Minogue; these particular collaborations have been received positively by both critics and other notable figures.

Thought it was an album cut from Elton John!
I just found out from one of my very very very homophobic friends that if you listen to this and like it... well then you must be gay....

Don't think that's true... but I like Scissor Sisters.

Elton and Bernie should sue.

Wow. This is like they are channeling elton. Sounds great.
Scott and Del both have some terrific riff-a-bilities.  There, I made a verb out of Riff.

When they were cutting some tracks for Ta-Dah, I had to explain what a "Hair Baby" was to a couple of astounded and repelled bystanders.  Most excellent rush I got from their mutual "eeewwww's"  Silly girls.
hearing these last two songs has revelaed how "thin" they were,  . . . weak tunes.

When I first heard this song, I was SURE it was some long lost track from Yellow Brick Road or something. It's scary, but a good song.

Wasn't crazy about the tune when it was a "hit" - then I saw them on TV and truly hated them.  Ugh!

Does RP play people because they are famous?  BTW, I just saw an HD concert on the telly the other day and it doesn't look like they are doing too bad.  The venue was packed with happy dancing people.

What is the rest of the CD like? {#Bananajam}

This is just a fun CD. Take it for what it is, enjoy life and I AM taking my mom out tonight as a matter of fact.
...doing the Twist to this rocks my heart (and other parts, too).  Wheeee!
Good to hear you play this one...
funky fun.  bought it through radio paradise when I first heard it, and it has always been a fun tune to listen to.
Is this an Elton cover band?

Not usually my cup of tea, but I love this band. Why? Cause you can't see tits on the radio, that's why.
Groovy tune, even if it does sound like Ms. Elton John. More_Cowbell wrote:

Yikes folks ... all this negative commentary about this group. This is a cute and bouncy tune! Those guitar riffs are pretty interesting too ... Lighten up on the Boys, OK? Now come over here and give Yo Momma a big Old Fashioned kiss ... you naughty little Bottom You ...

Yep, my cousin, who moved to England, sent me a compilation CD with Scissor Sisters on it about 4 years ago - had no idea they were from the States! I really like this whole CD, including their version of "Comfortably Numb" Thanks Bill for adding diversity to your eclecticism.
Is there a setting lower than "Sucko Barfo"?
Some of this song sounds just like Prince.
Didn't take long for them to use up their 15 minutes. Put it on the 1-hit wonder pile.
You gotta ask yourself; why would a band cover Elton John's early sound 30 years later? Makes dollars and cents to me. I'm not knocking it - everybody's gotta make a buck.
More_Cowbell wrote:

I imagine it's about a gay guy taking his mother out clubbing to "show her what it's all about"... I can picture the scene: Mother (for best effect in a high-pitched Monty Python voice): "There's a man over there licking another man's bottom!" Son: "That's called rimming, mother." Mother: "Ooh, looks terribly unhygienic..."
They're NOT the Bee Gees or Elton John if you check out their other songs! I've seen Scissor Sisters live and they're immensely versatile and talented. I think they put a fresh spin on covers and they do each one differently. Oddly they've been a bigger hit in Europe than in the USA.
Of course, now that I'm a junky for DJ Earworm I can't help but sing the lyrics to "For No One" in the breaks. My officemate thinks it's weird but I like it.

Ahh, I'm in a horrible mood today and the one-two punch of Cheap Trick's "Surrender" into this is starting to turn me around. Please keep it up, Bill! No sad bastard music today!!
elton john meets the bee gees
I loved this when it first came out... I think I've heard it too much now, though. :(
It never fails.. If the song is 1 - flat 7 - 4 - 1 I am guaranteed to like it. This is no exception.

Nice! I haven't listened to this CD in awhile. Fun CD from start to finish. Never heard anything off their follow up CD Ta-Dah... anyone?
One of the worst bands in the history of music
Elton IS a fan- the Sisters were on tour with him a couple of years ago.
Great song to bench-press to, as the rhythm has so much energy to it.
Reminds me of early Elton John.

I saw this group on SNL not long ago, doing this weird disco cover of "Comfortably Numb". It was kind of fun, but you have to wonder if they really GOT the song - it's not exactly disco-friendly or a masterpiece of peppy upbeatness.
Funny thing is David Gilmour gave their version his full backing, really appreciated their interpretation of it. Kinda like when Devo did the Stones' Satisfaction, Keith Richards said "Well we'll never be able to top that will we?!"
Ick.

just because the underlying "message" is meaningful doesn't mean this wasn't meant to be a fun, whimsical song.

This song makes me feel carsick. I really don't understand the appeal. Of course... I can't understand the current hipster obsession with really bad crap from the late 70s/early 80s either.
Happy much?
This band has so much energy. They're completely captivating.
Yes, take your mama out... Still a great song!!
Hooray! So glad to hear SS on Paradise, what a great CD, groovy retro stuff
this is a great song and a great band. have never heard them on RP before though. very nice!
Re: BillG's comments about the tune. Bill, FYI the tune isn't intended to be silly at all. 3/5 of the band is gay, and the song is about finding a way to make peace with their parents over their sexual orientation. Usually I don't pay much attention to lyrics, but after seeing them perform on SNL, I was blown away! In an age of bands that sacrifice their identities in order to get a record contract, and $17 CDs that might as well be singles, S/S is the best new rock band that I've heard in quite a while. (Not counting what I discovered after I found RP.) So I learned a lot about the band while trying to figure out how they seemingly came out of nowhere. "Return to Oz" is a dark tune that covers some pretty grim subject matter (meth addiction), but the artistry in the song cannot be denied. If I had to pick only two tracks from this CD, "Return to Oz" would be the other one for sure. Rebecca, please let that one through!!!
I've always felt like this was a "new 70's" song... it evokes the same feeling in me that I get when hearing old classics like CCR and Doobie Bros etc. Cannot explain
This song is just fun... how about some more SS on here please?
Super! Love this album (CD? what are they called now?). Keep puttin on the RP hits!

Catchy tune. I predict a very short shelf life for this band. If they're still around in 2006 you can all mock my predictive skills.
I'm not going to mock you. But I think this comment is kind of funny. Been reading them all after talking about this song with my cousin today. Apparently Rebecca has rejected other uploads from Scissor Sisters. Too bad. I'd like to hear more here.
Desaeverm wrote:

Umm because Rebecca detests them? Judging from the upload log they have been repeatedly rejected. Personally I love their over-the-top style, we've got Muse on heavy rotation so why not SS?
Hey They have a new album and still no sign of it here on radio paradise. Why not??
Mashup is fun, but not good for RP general audiences (too much going on it, loud and George Michael's breathy doesn't go well with the SS style). But I would like to see more by the SS on the RP playlist, though. I'm a fan of Return to Oz (any song with a reference to the Skeksis is cool in my book) and It Can't Come Quickly Enough - has anyone uploaded these?
The mashup has found a permanent home on my mp3 collection, and is in high rotation. Yummy. Hey, Bill, any chance of the mashup making rotation here?
I'm not sure... but I think Robbie Williams took some stuff from this guy :)
Thanks for the mashup link! The similarity with George Michael's Freedom made me want to hear both, and now I can - at the same time!
Always reminds me of the Cowsills...
